This one has been floating around in the review queue for a long time until I found it last night. And after playing it till well entered the morning with some friends I would recommend you to skip the review and just click that goddamn download button cause what we have here is a piece of work that could (and should) easily be packed with any official bonus pack.

The place looks like an old warehouse abandoned in the industrial zone of any city recycled in a great arena for the tournament. The whole place is built whit bricks, floor tiles and some wood and don't expect to see tons of useless stuff in walls, floors and ceilings because this map really has the exact amount of detail to not result boring. In fact I could say that walls are mostly flat but to me is a good example of why a map doesn't need to be bloated with meshes to look and play well. It has some cool arches on doors and other hallways and some smooth terrain outside. The lighting was very good too using two colors throughout the map. Theres a good blend of orange and blue but I feel that some more blue in the second floor could have made lighting more consistent. The only grip I have with lights is the tunnel with the armor that seemed to have more lights than the rest of the map and having one of those Condemned-like-up-in-flames-barrels I guess that one of the lights could have been turned off or blinking or... But overall very good job here.

What we're facing here is a three tiered map with a very well thought layout. While playing I felt like playing old good UT like Amon, 1on1-DavidM or a reduce version of Nitro. No matter where you fight sure someone can catch you from behind. Awesome connectivity hell yeah! Action is non stop and even in the very next second after killing someone you should not relax cos your enemy could jump right off the next corner!! Consider yourself warned: this is classic old school non stop DM! There's a thing bothering me that is that the layout lets you see from one end of the map to the other but as there's no sniper in the map I guess is not a real problem. Apart from all of this there a decent sound setup but I would have appreciated it if sounds formed part of the gameplay acting as auditive clues of where the foes are. You know the typical wood crack, or a water splash etc etc. In this kind of map It would really make the edge. No serious problems, no hom or cuts in the bsp.


I'll just say that gameplay is simply awesome. Try 2on2 with three friends and you'll have fun entire nights just as I did last night. As I said the layout is so well thought that tactic player will make the difference between victory and defeat. Great map for team play. I didn't play 1on1 here but it should perform well too. Flow was very good too as there are no items that will distract you from your path to victory although the placement was strange to me. Not killing the flow but neither did enhance it so I can't complain there. Bots did a really good job and they had no problems navigating the map so those of you who play with them, Malcolm, Gorge and Xan should be good rivals for you.

For all the above said you should be downloading this right now if you haven't done it yet because although technically is not the most impressive map you have seen, sure is the most playable map you've seen in a long time.

Nice map, cute and small, style and sfere, oldskool, real solid and most importantly 100 percent Strogg like :)
Outside is best because it stands out most, unique area

I like it. A little too wide perhaps, but that depends on the speed you play it with. Nice z-axis and floorplan!

Nice looking map with excellent flow. Everything is right; build quality, item placement, lighting... Bots are a bit of a pushover though ;)

As with Strogg's other maps, he's managed to make sparse mesh usage & mostly BSP look as good as anything.

very nice map. good flow, and looks great.

i would rate it a little higher, except i found it to be really easy to get on the roof of the buildings, where i obviously wasnt meant to be, as i could walk up to the skybox, and whatnot.

Nice looking map. Wish it had a lift or two, and agreed with above about the lack of blocking volume. The terrain could have received a bit more attention also, kinda bland.

This level looks good but it lacks a solid theme and it's a bit restrictive. I don't much enjoy maps where the author lets you see some area above you but places invisable walls to block you from getting there. Open up your levels, give players more freedom. I didn't find the sniper rifle. This map is full of crates stacked just perfectly for someone to jump up and start taking potshots at others. It is irrelevant whether or not you like campers or snipers, or don't wish to have sniping on your map. For your own personal copy sure - make it that way. But you won't be playing my copy of your map, and when I play I like to use the sniper rifle. With UT 2004 you can use the classic one instead of that POS lighting gun - don't forget to add this to your maps. Otherwise I have no complaints. The lighting is well done, the bots work, layout and inventory placement was good, architecture was nice but a bit reptitive. I'm not sure the sky was animated - don't forget the moving clouds!

It's nice to see another map from you! I can tell that you're improving and adjusting to the new editing processes fairly well.

Visually very solid- good atmosphere as usual. stamped with the trademark strogg features. But i dunno... the gameplay just didn't butter my parsnip. a bit limiting.

looks pretty nice although that one bent corridor could have used a little less orange lihgt imo.
apart from that the lighting is really cool and i like the floorplan though it's pretty simple. but it definitely provides some nice action.
the only thing when playing this map against bots is that the bots somehow act stupid. it's almost a 95% guarantee that you'll meet a bot in this outdoor part of the map but that's not that much of a problem -> just fight some human players here and everything's ok.
btw -> that guy on the 'YES'-sign reminds of a guinness or kilkenny beer coaster?! :D

Good map, I like the mix Ancient+Industrial theme...
Everything is well done, but with no lifts/jumpads the z-axis is quite limited, and using the high spots to kill from above is more good-luck than ability/strategy...

Very stong in both visual and gameplay aspects. This map simply breathes atmosphere, has great item placement and is very well lit. Good job on this one! The map has much more than the screenshots can tell. Recommended download!

EDIT: Some more playing convinced me to raise the score a little bit more...

Great work, I like the round arches very much, they totaly fit in the map and make great architecture..

A map with a great gameflow!
It plays much better than it looks %) - cause I've seen some tiny aspects I didn't enjoy at all. For instance, texturing of arches and floor tiles in few places could be much better. But anyway the map is smooth and very neat.

Almost perfect place for fighting :)

I only miss lightning gun...

using simple architectural shapes and adding only the details realy needed strogg creates a really nice map. although the layout might seem simple i had a lot of fun with this one. the best part ist the outside with the simple but effective architecture. the weakest part is this round corner thing, although it seems like a nice oldschool quote.

Solid map! A bit to big for my personal taste, but was fun to play. Visuals are simple, but atmo is real good.
It's a 8!
