| Blaaguuu 12-10-2004 04:02 PM MST | Rating: 2.5 | | this map is really lacking - which is expected from a first map - so im gonna try to give some constructive criticism...
visuals - first, you need to have a lot more static meshes ;) tbh, this map looked low quality for a UT99 map :P also, there were tons of texture alignment issues... the mso tobvious being the stairs. these things are really easy and quick to fix, with the texture alignment tools in the editor.
gameplay - the map really didnt flow well at all... i found myself havign to really go out of my way to get to a specific weapon... long cooridors to each item. this really breaks up the map... it no fun to have to back track constantly to get back to the main part fo the map... and i was constantly hitting dead ends
architechture - when iw as playign the map, i thought things looekd a little off... so i opened it up in UED to take a look around, and nothign seemed to line up with the grid, or other brushes - one of the extreme essentials when makign a map is that you carefully build brushes on sizes taht are doubles.. like 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024, etc... it will really help you, cuz everythign will fall nicely on the grids.
thats all for now... hope it helps

| Innominate 12-12-2004 02:04 AM MST | Rating: 3.5 | | I understand that this is your first map but even for first attempts this isn't up to par. Blaaguu stated some of the problems but I'll go a little farther.
No offense but this map looks horrible, everything seems out-of-scale (a lot of things were neither too little or too large), there were no light sources (light doesn't come out of nowhere), a lot of misalignments on the textures and some on the BSP. Even if this was UT99 the way this level look still would be bad. I've never played/seen Enternal Darkness but I doubt that the layout of Roivas' mansion was like this. This level is full of dead ends, nothing seems to connect to nothing, which means no flow at all. For your next level have a lot of rooms if not all rooms connected to one another, it's annoying to keep going back and forth. I didn't open it up in UnrealED but base on what Blaaguu said I'll give you this warning: Stick to the grid and use sizes that are multiple of 2 or else your level would have glitches which will ruin your level/work (I speak from experience). Oh yeah, when you get more comfortable using UnrealED try to make your levels look less blockier and use more static meshes.
Good try and hope what I said helped, good luck with your next map.
