| Seripmav 04-04-2004 08:39 PM MDT | | I hope everyone that downloaded this thought it was worth a couple of runs. It's large enough that it could take you a few times to get the layout, yet I don't think too complicated.
It was actually done way back before UT2003 came out and for some reason just sat on my hd all this time. Well, since I dl maps I thought I'd contribute something too.

The layout is interesting, with lots of semi-hidden areas on narrow cliff paths or underwater passages. There's also a pretty cool trap you can spring on someone going for the shield belt. As the author said, it's a damn big map, so it may take awhile to learn, and unless there are at least 12 players in there, you could easily wander for a couple of minutes without seeing anyone else. The bots seem to navigate the map well, and go for most of the powerups.
The appearance of the map, however, is very odd. Some parts of it look decent, while others are downright ugly, like the one in the screenshot with the two different colors of lava falling from above. The terrain is much too regular to be believable, with lots of large, flat faces and sharp angles. There are quite a few places where brushes are misaligned, leaving little breaks in the map that shouldn't be there (and a nasty HOM effect in one place). Quite a few textures are misaligned as well, and in many places, the author has taken walls that sit maybe seventy or even eighty degrees above the horizontal and aligned them to the floor, meaning the textures get extremely stretched out, and the effect is rather unsightly. Also, there are some strange texture choices here. Most of them come from the Mine pack, but then just when you're convinced that you are, in fact, in a mine, you'll come across wall decorations or pillars from the Skaarj texture set. And there are little crystals protruding from the walls that look like flowing water frozen in place. Very strange. I guess that's how I'd describe the map overall. Very strange.
