I saw this one standing on the request box and I saw it had some good feedback so I said to myself: This might be interesting… and sure it was. This one made me remember the old good UT days and if it wasn’t because I need the UT2004 installed in order to make review I’ll stick just to UT again.
AWE: 2,5
I’m not sure how to describe this map. It’s not a temple though it looks alike. It’s not a tech facility though it has lots of metal and wood all over the map. I don’t know how to describe it but it’s beautiful. The only thing I can say about the theme is that the entire map is nested on a mountain. You’ve got brick walls with metal panels around the whole place. Also there are wooden planks acting as decoration. The textures are well aligned and have a correct scale. Perhaps my only real complaint would be the lighting. I think the mapper could have used some more variation because the ambient light used in the map makes the textures pass unnoticed. Maybe if the sunlight could get to the inside the whole place would have look better. The author did a good job with the architecture; no matter where you look, you won’t see any empty or overdone spots. Everything has the right amount of detail that makes for good fps.
Build: 2,5
Obviously, the author has some experience with the editor: there are no bsp errors anywhere, the lighting is set up properly and there are no greenings (well there is a bit on some spots but you won’t see them unless you fly). If you play without music you won’t get bored as the sound effects are there too! The elevators work fine and bots know how to use them, they also use the translocator to get to the flag when they are on the water. They only thing they don’t grab is the belt. One little “grip” I found in this section was the layout. It’s too simple I’m afraid to say. It’s forgivable but the fun won’t last for months like in other maps.
Cast: 2
As I said before, the layout is a bit simplistic and that makes the flag easy to capture even if you’re a lone-ranger. That of course means that defenders will be busy trying to prevent the flag runs. The map flows well but I guess the layout influences more than the item placement though it wasn’t bad at all, but it passed unnoticed to me. I haven’t had the chance to play against humans but if a bot match can get that intense I can’t wait to see what this map has to offer with real opponents. Oh! To finish this review lemme say that the author recommend a max of 14 players!!! That’s way too much ppl for such a little map. I played with a total of 8 players (7 bots + me) and it as more reasonable. Maybe you could put 2 bots more if you wanna some more challenge but 7 players will keep you busy.

| XepptizZ 03-09-2004 10:02 AM MST | Rating: 7 | | It's somewhat a standart ut CTF style. I just wish to see new refreshing styles.
| Nahand 03-09-2004 01:20 PM MST | Rating: 7 | | Is it me or this map was released a LOOONG time ago? Meaning: i've played JB version for quite a while, and i clearly remember playing a CTF version WAY before that one.
Snow?
| Snowdog 03-09-2004 01:29 PM MST | | You're absolutely right Nahand, this map has been released with the BuF bonuspack, quite a while ago.
I uploaded it for people who never heared of the BuF bonuspack, or don't feel like downloading the entire file :)
B.t.w. There's a shieldbelt hidden in the map, together with a nice shortcut to the other base ;) Good luck finding it !
| Homeslice 03-10-2004 11:04 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | Good piece of work, Snowie. Good theme and flow, and I liked how the music fit. Although, I kinda like the JB version of this better. Still fun to play. 7.5.
| Blueyes 03-10-2004 11:50 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | Yes, another nice one. I like this type of archi with massive bricks and wood beams structure... Solid map dude!
| Resin 03-14-2004 08:11 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | Great architecture here, lighting was okay. Custom textures, Unreal 1 music are nice additions. I didn't really like the rock textures, but that's the only minor gripe. Playability is good, the map flows well and there's enough weapons to keep you busy. Recommended download :)
| CursedSoul1 12-29-2004 11:47 AM MST | | this map was part of the first beyond unreal bonuspack, I was part of it as well, and many others. (shadowlurker, nachimir etc)

| Slimy 12-31-2004 10:14 AM MST | Rating: 7 | | Readme said 8+ hours to make this map. If this map took you less than a day to make, add about 50 to my score ;)
