Map DescriptionMap I made one night out of boredom, literally took 5 or 6 hours to make so understand that when you play. I wanted to make as quick a map as possible and still make it play good, so I went tech.

I used a texture pack made by Hourences...really good pack, I wish more people would use it. In the end it is just a small DM fun for a few rounds, but this is most likely the meanest Overalls Factory your ever gonna see.

I'll start with the uglier part of the map, which is really a combination of the textures and the lighting. It has a brown/rust orange color in some sections, and a blue/green in others, almost like colors in a vomit stain, although not as repulsive. It does give an old, run down urban projects feel to it, which makes you feel a little filthy, that or I need to take a shower... Anyways, Mister Prophet has the light color set to a blue color, but if the saturation was lowered, I think it would look a lot better.

Aside from that gripe, the textures are aligned with precision, and are scaled their respective surface. As for the lighting, the display from the light sources is excellent. The hanging light bulbs have a larger radius than the more directional lights in the walls, and so on.

Architecture looks great, not too flat, but not very many curves either, but it's a city building. Pipes writhing across the ceiling, along with some rafters and other large supports. Ripped up planks look nice, as well as holes in the floor with jagged edges. Some of the larger floors are trimmed with metal plating. However on some of the ramps and ledges that the trim looked too wide for it's purpose.

BUILD: 2.5
Not much more atmosphere is added with sounds. Sirens can be heard on occaision, some dripping water, and mostly a hum from the lights. There's some puddles on the floor for locating the enemy, but the splashing sound is a bit loud for the size of the puddles, no big deal though. Brushes are appropriately combined together to keep the count down, and save some fps. I liked the two thin layers of clouds above in the skybox as well, which are floating aboove a rather large city. Prophet added some other buildings to add some better deapth to it when looking out the window. But who's really looking out the window when watching TV or doing it doggy style? (Nice add-on Prophet ;-)

CAST: 2.5
Gameplay is your general run amuck and shoot people. No special feel to the gameplay as opposed to others, it's a small map, no more than 6-8 players. There's some z-axis opportunities, although there's not a large distance between levels, but still plenty to keep you looking around for good reason. Bots have no issues with the map, I saw them in all locations in the map.

The bottom floor didn't seem much good for battling, only for grabbing a weapon or two, and some health. I felt that took away some from the flow, with only one ramp down there and two lifts that take you up to other levels. The rest of the map is great, with plenty of ramps and open areas to jump down from. Item placement seemed a little close together, but the small size of the map limits placement distances. The flak cannon is well placed on the lower floor with some health, where otherwise there would be no incentive to go down to.

It's a good map from a veteran NC member. I didn't feel too impressed by it, but I still had a lot of fun. Mixed feelings from me really, (I think KaMi's new map deterred me a little ;-). A must have download for you hardcore deathmatchers.

Seriously, good work Proph. It has good playability with bonus for the sound spots that enhance predictability. Also, those spots have a purpose and don't seem to been thrown just to make teh loud sound for the other player to hear it. It has some nice ponds that leaked from some pipes above, some wooden plank paths that have been broken, etc.
The archi is very Hourence's DM stylish. Boxes with some pillars and neat lighting but with a kewl feeling and theme. I liked that subway hole pit thing or whatever it was. Interesting detail.
I was thinking of giving it a 7 but I'll be generous. teh prettay 8!!!!11!1one!1

EDIT: Yeah, I almost forgot to mention the nice writing on the readme.

Right...

Looks are ok but not my style... and i H A T E wood floors (exceptions exist, though). Music so-so. Usuall sounds in place, good to hunt in 1on1...

It's a good DM map nevertheless, specially considering the time of creation. I was curious because it was a Mr. Prophet map.

It just doesn't rock my balls :/

(humm... then again, knowing Mr. Prophet, he'll just ignore or bash me because i'm a poor mapper ;)

Nahand's reaction is what I would expect, he is right about the so-so-ish of theme. In the short time it took me to make this (6 hours or so) I didn't put too much into theme, and when you wanna churn out a map fast, the easiest theme is tech.

This is Tech by Numbers.

I do like the gameplay, this is probably the best floorplan I've made for a DM like...ever, and Lift Jumping and Footstep Sounds are a big part of gameplay. I made 2 different lifts, one wood and one metal so you wouldn't confuse the sounds, alot of people miss this. I really think the map should be played with small duel parties, but if you feel the need for a team Deathmatch...the zones are labeled and named so you can see where your friends are.

Oh btw, yes you CAN shoot out the windows in the basement.

It is good visually.

However, I do have a few gripes. I played a simple deathmatch (5 bots) and most of them seemed to have no idea what they were doing. I noticed many of them actually stop moving, and they never seemed to have a decent gun.

Also, the pit of death is a bit too annoying. It is way too easy to fall into there during a duel with a single opponent, and there is no way out.

cute little but simple map, floorplan and gameplay work nicely, and finally someone uses my terrible textures again :)
tho on the visual side its pretty low poly and simple at times, but the tex make up for that :P

floorplan is good for the time taken, but you spend a little too much time in one of the various corridors, a bit low poly for me but im a poly whore. textures arernt very sharp (sorry hourences:p) but hell at least it isnt another richrig tech map so it makes up for it. deserves a 10 for the easteregg though. cool map.

nice job prophet, and yeah i love the big hole in the floor :) i liked it so much..i even jumped down it for fun, lol

map seems smaller than it really is when playing but i like it..even though its simple

Great map to be made in 5 or 6 hours! I like the flow, lighting's really good, and the texture work is pretty darn nice. Cool music track too. Why not let the good folks at Insite see it? 7.5!

The flow here is fantastic. The transition from location to location is quite seamless. The texturing is a little shakey and the architechture is pretty unimaginative though.
Ugh...the puddles look like little patches of urine....
The screwing in the adjacent building was a nice touch.

Looks nice but...i'm wondering what is the purpose of making a map "as fast as possible" ???

I don't get it, no map should be made in a rush imo...

This is not work for me, it's something that make me relax and be creative. Oh well...
