AWE: 2.5
Well, well, well, what we have here is another map chocked full of greatness from KaMi. This time in the CTF fashion. I'll start with the lower points of awe, which is the lighting. Not that the lighting is bad, in fact it would be superb for deathmatch, but for CTF, the bases aren't as seperated in lighting well enough. The red base is more of an orange or gold color than red. The blue base is almost the same coloring, but with more of a cooler look to it, in fact the outside lighting is more blue. Sure, both bases have some subtle lights that are clearly red and blue, but nothing that's prominent enough to quickly catch your eyes. One other thing I noticed was that the spots on the floor for the rectangular lights were round, and not more ovoid. Aside from that pickiness, the outdoor lighting is magnificent, with the cold dark blue light from the sky. I also liked the spots on the ground from the lights on the building.

On to texturing, which I only had one disappointment with. Some of the light textures for light sources are set to unlit, which I think is kind of an easy way of cheating bright looking lights. The rest of the textures are awesome, KaMi included some great outdoor and modern textures imported from UT2003 in the MyLevel pack. All of which are perfectly aligned, even on curved and jagged surfaces. Even flat surfaces such as the floor aren't one texture, edges have trim to where elevation changes.

No complaints with architecture. The outdoor terrain and structures are sheer goodness. The terrain is rough and uneven, while the building have plenty of round and beveled angles and surfaces. Inside is just as great, many varied levels for the floor and angles on pillars. I especially liked the small pentagonal depression in the floor where the flag is. Plenty of metal grating and glass with lights, slime, and pipes behind them. Absolutly outstanding.

BUILD: 3
Ambient sounds are fair, maybe not quite as loud or abundant as one would usually prefer, but it is a winter themed map, and for me, I love winter because it's so quiet outdoors, and it is similar with this map. Outside a cold breeze can be heard, inside has more sounds, hums and other sounds from the modern inter-workings of the building. Areas are zoned off, with location strings. Distance view triggers work extremely well, it's almost impossible to grab the sniper rifle without getting nailed by the opposing sniper (that's if they're there), and running across the open land is trecherous with a sniper in position. I also must say that the skybox is among the coolest that I've seen. Dark blue clouds with stars as a backdrop, and a red moon (or is it Mars) that dimly glows through the clouds.

CAST: 2.5
Teamplay is the word for this map. KaMi recommends 8-10 players, which will give you a decent length match requiring some real fighting, I also played it with 16, which gives the real necessity for teamplay. The no-man's land is fairly short and not much fighting occurs there, leaving the fighting in one base or the other, so in order to really get in and out of the enemies base, I had to go in with around 3 other teammates, with more coming behind. It really makes for a great struggle. The flow is fairly simple, with two ways in and out of the bases, the upper route isn't used as often, but the bots will still use it on occasion.

Item placement is good, weapons in the lower part of the base are fairly in close range, but there aren't many other places for them, even so, there are some side spots specifically for a couple weapons that gives enough variance to work well. The shield belt is placed up on a nice ledge, which the bots can and will get to. The U-damage on the other hand is in the center of the map and is easier to grab, maybe throwing on top of the small building it's in would effect things a little different.

SCORE: 8
The base coloring is only a problem when you first play, but after several matches you'll know the difference without second though. Truly a MUST download for CTF.

some really solid and original architecture here. only weak point that jumps out at me is lack of contrast in the lighting, inside its one colour everywhere until you're outside in the central CTF-Terra-ish terrain part.

could have some more ways in it... the map is for 8 players max.
Graphics 9/10
Sounds 7/10
Playability/Flow 5/10
=> 6.5/10

EDIT: After playing this map again and again I noticed that red moon. Man, there is a big mistake! Why didn't you color the sky little red there? A pro like you should know that!

Brilliant! How do you keep doing it, KaMi? All I know is, there might well be another change in my CTF rotation....

This has a brilliant theme, and the gameplay's not half-bad either. Maybe you need a website to showcase all these cool maps you make! I'm serious....8.5!

Finally got it!! I am particularly fond of the outside. . .great terrain and outdoor lighting, its all very moody. But i agree with darthweasel on the interior lighting. . .it's basically the same colour throughout, should prolly be broken up a bit. Otherwise the great archy, lighting, sound and texture useage make it a stellar map!!! ;)

Fast CTF action. The bots defend well and cause you plenty of grief. Looks good. Good effort.

The map looks pretty cool, but it lacks in gameplay ... there are only two ways to get the flag and that's not enough ... it is also a bit too small

one word: Wow.

Kami, yet again you have taken my UT gaming experience far above most else. I remember when i clicked the DOWNLOAD button on Last Crusader ][. i had dial up but i waited. that map was WORTH THE DOWNLOAD :D (i still think its my fav DM map). now, you have taken CTF and made a map to make footsteps that generations will see. Kami, You are a very very talented mapper. Taking UT2K3 textures? thats cool. nice to hear someone is trying to make a bridge between the two (some rhetorical crap ignore that.)

anywyay, this map is great. i cant wait to see what else you will be making for the UT community. Nice job ;)

WOW, for a moment I thought I was playing a UT2k3 map. The design is refreshing when compared to uninspired stuff that has been coming out lately. The Bots owned on this map, it was one of the hardest bot games I had in a long time on a map. I haven't found a server with it online yet, it would be cool to play this with people.

IF this is built out of BSP brushes I can say that you are a hero.
(explanation= when you build your level with BSP brushes, that mean that you would definitely have to fight with those BSP holes that appear out of nowhere)
I am also familiar with this pain in a ... !
Lets take that into concideration!!
GOODJOB!

I had downloaded this some time ago apparently, and only recently have I started to clean out my map collection and instal the new maps. Near the end of the seemingly endless list of CTF maps I had acquired I found this gem, and began to play. Right off I recognized the layout, as it is almost exactly the same as my CTF-SolidRock][ which I had released roughly two years before this one. It's almost as if the author took my level and made it better, as well as adding all the features I wish I had been able to give mine. You have two techy bases with some amazing architecture in the mountians opposite each other, but unlike mine the flags are down below. Like mine however the sniper positions are up above in the mountain. There is even an area in each base where you have a glass ceiling and can see the terrain around the edges with the sky above. VERY awesome, and something I had wanted in mine but had been unable to do.

For the first time in I think ever I have to agree with the reveiwer here. I would also add that the red moon does not fit, the map really needs a third route, and it should be a bit larger, but as it is it's nearly perfect and a worthy addition to any mappers UT collection.

KaMi is the man! The architecture of this map is very well done, and the detail is just outstanding. I mean you can't help but stop and just gaze at the detail when you reach the courtyard area. Bots work great as well.

KaMi's maps are must-haves and this one is defintely an excellent map. GET THIS, you won't be sorry, get all of his other maps while your at it. :)
