Ok, it goes without saying that Michael "Bot_40" Rippon is a great mapper, that is unless you've been living in a cave somewhere in Saskatchewan. But I've just said it again, and his CTF-Super Styler is more proof.

AWE: 2.5
The architecture here is what we're becoming accustomed to for being "great." Disrupting long flat walls by rounding out protions, support beams comprised of different shaped materials, and floor grating with water beneath. Most unique in the map are the large glass tubes/halls, which allow you to see water above, and the base below. Not something seen in every map.

Lighting is almsot nothing but utter goodness. I say almost, because there's some red lights in the blue base, and I personally don't think it fits well or looks right. The map is lit very well, no real dark areas, and not much for coloring either, except for the red lights by the lifts next to the flag. Could have used more variety here, not a whole lot, but enough to make things different and less even.

Texturing is great, although it is yet another industrial map. The author does a great job of splitting textures for the walls. The floors are excellent as well, with large sections inset into the floor, although I'm not sure anyone would lay a chainlink fence on the floor to go over water, but it still doesn't look too bad. All the textures are perfectly aligned.

BUILD: 2
The atmosphere of the map is expected by the setting itself; another modern facility with flowing water. You'll hear mostly running water (duh), but there's some creaks and grinding sounds, along with some other sounds that have the pitch changed to the point that it's solely for adding to the atmosphere, but not able to individually pick out the sound itself. The map is zoned off, with added location settings, the lifts work fine, nothing much more to add.

CAST: 2.5
Gameplay is top-notch. Bots navigate the map completely, using all the routes, except for when they have the flag, then they take only a couple different routes. Flow is only hindered by the glass tube route being a little longer, and no real incentive to take, other than it's less traveled. The flak cannon hall has the hazard of getting caught between the catwalk above the water, and the wall, not a good thing while in a dual.

Item placement is ok, I prefer the ammo to be closer to their respective weapons, but at least munition for the same gun is together, just not necessarily with it's weapon. Med boxes are fairly spread out, making a quick gain of health when almost dead very difficult. There are plenty of health vials around, but with other players taking them, and only giving 5 health, they don't make for quick return to battle.

SCORE: 7
I think this map suffers from personality, it has good gameplay and looks, but it looks like a generic map. Download it anyways, it's worth it, and one can learn a lot from Bot_40's mapping skills here.

Damn! Buh...jus.....damn! Nice map, especially since it took you no time. It sounds as if you pulled it out your a$$ and inserted it into UnrealEd! Great CTF map.

Pretty cool maps... sometimes ambiant sounds are overdone , and theme isn't particulary original (lighting is depressing , perhaps it was done on purpose :)
The overall architecture is flawless though.

Not, bad
I quite like this map. Some of the textures are quite "space-age" which looks well, especially the tunnel as in your Screenshot. I haven't had chance to play with the bots yet so if they do whats i want or ot is yet to come.....
Waiting to play with Bots.....Then this will be complete. for now it gets a 6.

1 day and you make this...
More days and you make crap...:p

And what about this thingie here:
File Name: ctf-superstyler.zip
Author : Bot40
Gametype : UT Deathmatch

I played this baby with 15 bots, and at a certain point they were waiting for me and my team. All of them!!!
They really got the hang of this map... :)

[Admin: Oops. Bot40's fault for submitting it as UTDM, my fault for missing that error as it came through. ]

Really nice map. I like the 'depressing' theme ;) and I think the ambient sounds are cool. They really carry over a nice bit of atmosphere. I liked the decent lights which didn't annoy me with overdone coronas.
And it has the l33t glass tunnel for eyecandy.

Yep, very cool map indeed.
Loved the architecture. Lighting was slightly off, IMO.
Layout was perhaps a little confusing and linear, although in the middle there were plenty of spots to switch paths.
Bots played well... everything seems in order... it's a keeper!

I dont know what u guys like in this map. i found it really boring after 5 minutes. the ligthing , well...
bot support is good, architecture is somewhat basal but nonetheless good.
Its just boring. there's NO interactivity, hardly any alternate path, and the ligtinggg...
Its just boring (i wont say i make better maps cuz i dont)

I don't understand. . .what is it you want to be interactive in a DM? Save that for Half-Life. TBH i love this map, It looks completely different from what i normally play. . .and it has to have the MOST awesome UMX ever! Brilliant atmosphere and use of sounds. . .quite good archy I think and the lighting is fine. Obviously not as good as stoneforts but better than wether.

good fast-paced CTF action. bots are good, but a bit predictable on flag returns. didn;t see a single texture problem. love the music :) only found one small glitch: by the flak, you have to walk up the center or you get stuck. overall a great map for LANs, it'll be on my server for sure!

I actually live in Saskatchewan, and I definitely know who bot40 is. Guess that's because I couldn't find a cave here on the praries ;)
Liked the map. Like all his work.
Hey, bonus points for spelling Saskatchewan correctly!

Yeah, I even spelled Saskatchewan right without looking it up before hand. :-D Of course I did double check to make sure afterwards.

As for the map, again looks and plays great, but a bit blah on setting and atmosphere.

Nice, but not perfect by any means... I absolutely despise the ceiling texture, you don't notice it too much but when you do, it's pretty annoying. The big glass tubes are just a bit too big, they should probably be smaller. On the plus side, the texture set works GREAT here, and gameplay is great. The map makes you feel small in some places, but it does so in the RIGHT places, if that makes any sense. Good fun, but something just fails to seperate it from the rest, maybe the lack of polish or detail... Who knows. Maybe a keeper, maybe not. 8.

This was done in one day? You're insane, Bot40. In a good way. :)

This is an excellent map, very well done in all respects. The architecture is great, with only a few spots here and there where I might have changed something (a protrusion in the floor that comes up a bit too high, etc.). The map is filled with ambient sounds, which I personally like, except that the positioning seems a little strange sometimes. For example, in some places you can be standing with water on all sides of you, yet the sound of running water clearly comes from one direction instead of surrounding you. I also agree with the reviewer that the ammo and weapons might have been placed a little closer to one another, but these are all minor gripes. Great job.
