| Homeslice 02-23-2003 08:33 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Cause it was a good map! Good going Spooner! This map rules.
(EDIT: Vertigo, I don't know how many people speak Spanish here, but if I'm the only one besides you, then I'm the only one that understood what you said.)
| Vertigo 02-23-2003 05:54 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | la conversion de uno de los mapas de Epic nunca podra ser mejor que el mapa original porque los mapas originales se merecen TODOS un 5
| Czm21x 02-26-2003 09:20 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | Dm-phobos was excellent.... I was wondering when somebody would try to make a ctf map based on phobos. I give it a 5 because I'm in a good mood tonight.
Spoondog, you do have some good talent for map making. Try combining some maps to make something new. For instance. Morpheus and phobos combined to make a new ctf map. Or eternal caves and lavagiant, so there are two forts(built into rock walls) underground in a cave system. At least you are trying new ideas instead of the same old two forts maps.
| Bootycall 02-24-2003 12:40 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | its ok.. there is actually a ctf- morpheus or however its spelled
| TheSpoonDog 03-23-2003 03:54 AM MST | | Hmm... I was quite disappointed at peoples' reactions to this map. I can play this for hours and like playing it the most over all my other maps! Most seem to see it as a "conversion", but I think of it more as a port - a conversion to me is "delete-some-stuff-and-add-some-flags" business.
But this is made from a plain old black box! I basically designed the layout, trying to use as many levels on the z-axis as possible, while still keeping some elements from the DM, like the sniper towers. I also kept the same style windows and used the "wings" from the DM. I was amazed how well the theme was retained while having a totally new layout with so many different opportunities! I thought people would love it, based on how much I, myself, enjoyed inoxx's original DM.
Anyway, each man to their own I suppose. You will find the jumpboots (there's a few around) very useful for navigating the levels!
Czm21x - combine morpheus and phobos to make a new level? Seen CTF-Orphobeus? ;-) http://www.planetunreal.com/spoondog/CTFmaps.htm
| Louise 03-22-2003 08:00 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | One of my favorite. Super map.
| theBAMNman 08-02-2003 02:04 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Well, CTF is not my specialty, but I thought this map was pretty good. It's CTF DM-style, which makes for some interesting gameplay. It's also amazing how you made the layout almost entirely on your own because, as you said, it retains so much of the theme. I also like all the z action. Still, it's a bit squished together inside (and small overall), and it's not very difficult to capture the flag (even w/difficult bots).
| Nahand 08-02-2003 12:18 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Well... CTF IS my specialty, so...
It is a great map, this PHOBOS 2. One of my favorites. The original map (DM-Phobos) never really got my apreciation, though. This can´t possibly be considered just a convertion, because it isn't! It is "inspired" and named after said map. PERIOD!
| darkjaxx 09-16-2003 11:14 AM MDT | Rating: 10 | | Building score is awesome, I'm already lauching to the bots(oops i'm on the wrong snipertower and been shooted of this tower....) This map have not the humor but the gameplay still rockin! I can play this map for hours and hours and then i'm not played off The point is that I'd like Phobos My first reaction of the name of this map that it's almost a rip off from dm-phobos And it's NOT The Weapons are good placed, when i'm a sniper i can shoot the guys who would take my flag, (Face do it too) I can still defend all base at my one, but wait..... I have forgotten the other sniper at the other site...DANG I've been blazed by a bot!!!!! And I played this just on expierinced! OK. Í going to play inside, the architecture is nice :) Bots can get off there places (haaa!) and when they shoot wil to me they jump around, and this on EXPIERENCED! I've got me shame too, incredible, I give this a ten because i can make a rewiew of this map and i've not talked of this map!
This is not rip off from phobos, this is really new gameplay, with the architecture from phobos!!!!!!!
Spoondog, I would that you make more rip offs.... ;)
argh, I though Ultimum was the rigth level for me....
| Shao 10-10-2004 06:42 PM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | euh...who did just remove my comments eh.....? admin....? -.- or...author...eh.....?
| Manticore 10-11-2004 02:00 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Great to find a Spoondog map that I didn't have. The guy is a master of interesting and challenging CTF pathing. Bots are totally on the case...
| John DiFool 11-07-2004 09:03 PM MST | Rating: 8.5 | | I daresay this map has more Z-action than anything I have ever DLed (if anyone has ever run across a CTF map which rivals this one in terms of Z-action then mention it). That third dimension really makes gameplay terribly complex here (I mean that in a good way of course): for example, generally speaking higher=better, but here if you cross the map high, and drop down (or TL) to go for the flag an enemy hiding under the overhang will nail you quick. But going in low isn't a picnic either. A definite keeper.
EDIT: If nobody has gotten this by now (or is late to the party), get it now. It is a shining example of:
1. Incredibly fun gameplay, with all the levels
2. A map which is also deep strategy-wise too, a challenge to get the flag back out, charging in w/o a plan is suicide
3. A conversion which isn't just a lame retexturing job-it takes the theme of the original and puts it own unique stamp on things.
| hawkwind 11-09-2004 10:19 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | real nice conversion! captures the feel of the origional but with complex routes to and from the flag. obviously, with 4-6 players caping is easy, but thats true for both teams (read: 10 or more players is better). very good construction and lighting, but some of the textures could be better lined-up (grates shouldn't go around corners or be cut in half at a corner). speaking of corners, a little trim on some corners would improve the looks, which are great otherwise. weapon and health layout is very good. i cann't agree with Vertigo, that all Epic maps deserve a 5!? i would suggest the author make a 2003/2004 version. the only thing i dislike about UT CTF is that darn bot following you around. would love to play this online!
