DM-Malice, by Homeslice, is described as an ancient crypt temple for Nali. The map is very very simple looking with basic shapes like squares, rectangles, cylinders and what have you. The texturing isnt too great either, as the skylights seem really flat, and the texturing is just simple all around. Lighting isnt anything special either; its very flat and theres not much to look at throughout the map in all aspects. The architecture, as described before, is very very simple. Nothing really impressed me aesthetically.

Homeslice does include a custom music track which some of you may know of - Aryx. Its an alright track, but again, music doesnt make the map, does it? Build of the map is very simple. Homeslice did include a lift, but it had no base....it was basically a floating rectangle. Nali telekinesis o_0? Even the bots were lackluster for such a simple map. I didnt see any use the lift, nor did they get the Keg and the RL on top of the boxes in the main room. I saw a couple texturing errors here and there as well.

The first thing I noticed about the map, and you probably will too if you download it, was the extremely simple floorplan. Theres basically four or so rooms and a middle hallway shaped like a t or cross or whatever. The main room has a couple boxes and ramps, and the other rooms are just...simple. Gameplay is very boring, as you basically fight in an open room with boxes, a hallway, or some small side room. Add this to the shoddy item placement, and the fun factor isnt exactly butter. The only upside was that the map ran fine.

Pros: Good playability, easy to kill bots relieve stress

Cons: Floorplan, gameplay, architecture, texturing, lighting, item placement...many many things, unfortunately.

Bottom line: Pass this one up. Homeslice, on your next map, I must suggest more z-axis and a more thought out map. The simple style may have cut it in the very beginning of Unreal, but compared to other maps out there, its hard pressed to find a reason to keep or play this map. Keep trying though bro.

Malice is an interesting map; it has some factors working for it - the flow is decent, theres some Z-axis and it has a custom soundtrack. It has problems though which keep it from being a great map in my opinion.

There are simply too many items, particularly health. The botpathing is ok, but don't expect ambushing or sniping. Textures often are not aligned and are sometimes ugly. Plants grow from the stone floor.

Overall though, not a bad map, but one which could use some additional tweaking.

I liked the growing plants--did you do that? I've downloaded all of your maps and this one is the closest yet fit for human consumption. May I suggest when you completely finish your next map (and are absolutely satisfied with it) that you go through it and remove half the health and ammo? You're getting closer to a winner, Homeslice. And when you do--you'll deserve it!

Pretty good map
put some time and thought into geometry, layout, flow etc etc... read some tutorials... get inspiration from maps you admire.
NEVER GIVE UP.
