This map is based in a huge asteroid floating in space.
The level consists of three main areas throughout the asteroid; the outside (see right screenshot), the chapel, and the firecave. All are made well, with the exception of the firecave, which is perhaps too simplistic. But given the size of the cave, it's a good trade off between speed and quality for the not-so-fast PCs out there. The large outdoor area runs a bit slow, but I don't see how because it's not over-detailed. Architecture is very good on the whole, especially in the area depicted in the left screenshot as well as the chapel. But there are some places where architecture could have been used more distinctively, for example, in the corridors leading down to the chapel. The lighting is top-notch. A variety of light brightnesses and colourings have been used to differentiate between areas. Ambient sounds have been used well to add to the atmosphere. Textures have been used very well in this level, and provide a realistic backdrop to combat.
AI is superb here. But don't even think about playing this level with less than six players per side. That's when the real beauty of this level shines through. The bots play as well as any human, and use all lifts, teleporters, portals, and also their defencepoints. Item placement is excellent. Most of the good items are placed away from control points, which means players can't camp and guard a control point. Control points are spread well throughout the level. The one in the chapel is the best-placed one as it's extremely hard to guard well without backup. Gameflow is good, but a lot of the corridors are too narrow to be able to dodge incoming weapons fire. Also, the level would have benefited from having more than one corridor leading to the chapel area.
In conclusion, this is a very good level, definitely worthy of a download. But this level really needs big teams to play well. Try six or more players per team. Keep in mind; this level really does need a powerful PC to run well, especially as it needs larger teams.
DOM Temple of the Moons is;
Very good
For large teams
For powerful PCs only
DOM Temple of the Moons isn't;
As good as other user-made domination levels
Flawless
Visually stunning in all areas
Teaching points for author:
Experiment with different architectural styles. Look around other levels, books, websites, or anywhere else for inspiration.
Try to spend more time detailing larger rooms, but not so much as to slow the game down dramatically.
Try to be more adventurous with the layout.
Always remember to include two or more entrances to each room or area. This will enhance gameflow. Also, try to make them wider.

| Manticore 04-15-2005 10:51 PM MDT | Rating: 4.5 | | The size and layout for DOM gameplay are the best part about this map. The look of the map, particularly the use of paintings on the walls in various places, is the worst part of the map.
| Wehtam 04-14-2005 02:53 PM MDT | | it looks inspired by the Sega Saturn game Torico. in which you travel to the city of moons. am i right ?
| RayZidane 04-13-2005 07:34 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | Mediocre map...can't say more
| Orion(Co30) 04-14-2005 10:41 AM MDT | | No Wehtam, the map is inspired by nothing specific. It originally was supposed to be only the pool room and the corridors around it, then I started adding more and more stuff until it became what it is today.
