Map DescriptionA rather dark subterrainian CTF map. Symmetric. Features a rather unique layout that has many different routes, and rewards intelligent jump-boot use. Some nifty lighting tricks and geometry can also be found.

Wow, this is an excellent piece of work. If you don't like this map you're probably either jealous of it, or an idiot. The only thing that is unprofessional about it are the teleports. The author grew tired of the map and just wanted to get it on the market and didn't directionalize the teleports that take you in and out of the guard posts. You end up facing this way or that, but it's not much of an issue since you're just using them to get back and forth to the guard posts.

The place looks great, has a nice feel to it as you consider your routing options. Underwater tunnels get you some yardage, while other watering holes are just there to add atmosphere, and this map has does have plenty of atmosphere. It's very polished. The attention to detail is superb. The texture choice is thought out, the layout keeps the polys very low, the theme is industrial and is adhered to well, bots great, lighting appropriate; I didn't want to quite playing it to do the review. The item placement is thought out and you pretty much have your choice of weapons if you go the right route, and health is about perfect for a nice battle with about 10 players. The author noted in the readme that this might be his last map, so I encourage you to email him and persuade him to turn out more quality work. These nice maps are becoming too few. Is the large download worth it for this symmetric CTF creation? I think I've already answered that.

I'd like to note real fast a couple botches with the .zip : the text file should give credit to both Rich Eastwood for textures out of his richrig.utx pack, and Hyperion for his two CTF logos I included. Sorry I didnt slip those in there, I was kind of wasted the night of release :P

To reply to C.H.U.D.'s remark about CTF-ProjectX2 being a much better map, how can you possibly compare a map built for 16+ players to one built for 10? Anyway, good map nonetheless.

Hey you can't compare this map with PX2, that is mainly an outdoor map and this is mostly indoors. Anyway this is a fun map to play and refreshingly different. Only downside is that the map was just that fraction too dark in places, but I can live with that :o)

You guys are crazy. This map is better than ProjectX2 in several areas. First is the lighting. This lighting is Epic quality. Second is the gameplay - much better framerates without sacrificing visual appeal. Excellent map. Near Epic quality in every aspect.

I liked the contrasts in the area lighting and the flow was above average. I agree, not quite a niner, but definitely in the 7-9 range :)

Certainly PX2 and Boom have different concepts and are hard to compare. CTF-Boom isn't much smaller than PX2; a flagrun take approx 40-45 seconds, which is upper limit for a 5-on-5 clanmatch. But at least it has a pretty simple structure and clear chokepoints, not a big maze like PX2. I expect it plays well in a clanmatch. The lighting and texturing in Boom are maybe a bit dark and brown, but I like the theme. Architecture is flawless IMO. Lots of nice details, but still a low polycount. This map should play well even on low-end machines. Ambient sounds are used well too. Zoning is excellent. I'd give it an 8.5 overall. Thumbs up to Hunter!

I think the map is great. Nice layout and nice brushwork. BUT.... Am I the only one that found the nasty bug in it?? If you go above the BLUE rocket launcher onto the structure built above it you die instantly. "sircharlz left a small crater". I have had problems with that myself when the invisible collision hull I built got borked when I did a full rebuild. I noticed it did not happen on the red side. Besides that the map is alot of fun! --chaz

Graphics are ok, so is lighting. Theme is great. Bot play sucks!! Blue team (my team) will not go across bridge (or they do rarely). I (a defender) had to get flag or attempt rather as I had no cover. Had to take out all red team going in, and then again going out. Sucks having to do it all.

If you're still playing UT99 and are a fan of CTF this is definitely worth the download. Bots are well worked for offline play.

... and Manticore, no the BOTs suck. At Flag area and MAINLY at bridge pass.

Yeah, I like it...there're some stupid things in the map (the teles, the nontransculent water etc.) but it's still 7.5!
