If anyones played the original DM-Letting for Unreal, they will know how good this map really is. I am going to score it based on the maps credits, not on what the converter - Joe 'Particle Man' McGoldrick - has done to it, as if I did this it would get a 0.
Letting is a small-sized elongated arena type map, with two layers which provide excellent vertical fighting. Six huge pillars provide cover. The architecture is good and solid-looking, and it is quite outstanding that you can see the whole map without any slowdown whatsoever. I personally love the textures (see the screenshot), which make for a great looking arena.
Players on the top layer have a great advantage, although to obtain the rocketlauncher or health you must drop down. Also a trap makes getting the shieldbelt risky. As you may have guessed weapon placement is superb.
Bot play is good, although the author made no attempts to use UT's bots to their best. They only activate the shieldbelt trap by accident and don't impact jump or translocate. However this hardly makes the map any less enjoyable.
Lighting is subtle but effective, with no harsh coloured lighting, but there are no special effects such as coronas. To be honest these may get in the way of fighting and take away from the run-down industrial atmosphere.
Now onto bad points. There are no ambient sounds and goddammit there is no music. >:-( The 3 is for the fitting lift and crusher sounds. No screenshot or playercount piss me off further. At least once you're in the map and fighting the sublime deathmatch experience outweighs these shortcomings.
One of the all-time greats. I just hope someone adds the professional touch to this map. Download it now.

Maybe two words actually.
Carnage. Panic. You spawn in that special little place (Anyone who's played this map will know what I mean), and I swear to all things holy, you'll never experience another circumstance in life whereby wetting your pants is actually fun.
AWESOME map, one of the many Excellent Unreal conversions for UT that are out there. Download it.
... NOW.... :o)
| Sir Xavius 01-09-2006 02:57 PM MST | Rating: 6.5 | | It's a big rectangular 2-level room with a lift. Boring? Yeah, if you're by yourself. Play with about 3-8 bots and you simply won't get a moment's rest. There are places to duck to get your bearings, but you'll be flushed out quickly. No fancy frills (except for a trap that bots LOVE to activate) and nothing to explore, but if you like arena chaos, you should have this map...
