*) Info:

A 571 KB download for 2-4 players. (Though the reviewer liked it best at a count of 6.)

*) General:

In many ways this map is a lot like DM-Crolithion by the mapper 'Apoc', which got quite some coverage, and even today still is on a server or two every now and then.
The simple yet fundamental difference between Agear and Crolithion however, is that -- quite frankly -- DM-Agear plain out 0wns DM-Crolithion!

*) Worst:

The single aspect where it falls behind DM-Crolithion is the playability. This map here has polys in the 200s at half the places, and peaks in the very high 300s. Unfortunately, that means that on the low-end rigs it will run even less smooth than DM-Crolithion ran already... :(

*) Bad:

The music chosen wouldn't have been what I would have chosen for a map like this, but after a while I really came to consider it an integral part of this map.

As of sounds there sure could have been more variety, since all you have is wind under the skyboxes, and gurgling water above the little basins in the ground. There also are elevators that feature two different sounds.

*) Good:

The flow of this map is very good. Every connection makes perfect sense, and there is not even one half of a dead end on this map. What is especially nice here is the z-axis flow.

Another virtue of this map is the botpathing. They do extremely well here, even translocate up to the shieldbelt. There is virtually no corner on this map they wouldn't know how to cut. However, there is not a single ambush point defined for them, which considering there is a Sniper Rifle on this map is doubly sad. The only corner they have problems at is left of the armor.

They also hardly ever made use of the little lift behind the shieldbelt. But those are neglectable mistakes, that certainly won't keep them from giving you one hell of a lickin'.

*) Best:

I looove this map's lighting. I'm no 1337-ist, and even if I got their theories, I probably wouldn't share their taste I'm afraid. But this is lighting that I like.

DM-Agear features wonderfully warm yellow lights, intermingled here and there with neutral white, and red kinda warmishly orange. There are coronas at many of them, and even on the ceiling ones you have coronas rather than stupid cones! :)

Architecture roxxors; 'nuff said.

Items are cleverly placed. Precious little health on this map. No kids' stuff like Invisibility, or Redeemer, or Amp. The only true "power-up" is the Shieldbelt, which you'll find attracting lots of action.

*) Summary:

A smallish map with a high pace of action. If you already liked DM-Crolithion, you'll most probably love DM-Agear.

Should you not know DM-Crolithion, don't even bother to find it: download this here little gem instead.

This is a great map IMO. The David-M influences are obvious, but who cares? The layout is nice, and the detail is there. I don't like being able to walk through chains, but that's no big deal.

LOL..Hi there, I am the mapper of DM-Crolithion, Willis"Apoc"Perry... n e ways, the first things first, DM-Crolithion looks exaclty like this map, what a rip off, just go ahead RIP OFF MY MAPS, not only that, he even used my glass pit idea just with a grate over instead... DM-Crolithion's Layout sucked ass tho, thats where this maps rises..

Looks: First nice and interesting, then everywhere the same Layout: The first floor is simply flat, boring, there are mainly 2 flat-levels. Technically good made, potentially a winner. More concentration on the layout!

This map has been in my LAN rotation for quite some time now and will continue to be. It's a nice little gem of a level. Nothing spectacular, just good clean fun.
