This is an old review, imported into our database.
This map is part of a 5 map series, each map is styled after the Golden Eye console game. Of the 5 maps (DM-Stacks, DOM-Library, DM-Temple, DM-Archives, and DM-Basement) this map is the most succesful for various reasons. The architecture is not stunning, in fact the only word I can think of to describe it is 'Highly functional'. It consists of a series of rooms, all interconnected by catwalks and hallways, with a few secret tunnels. All of the rooms are drab like an old library or government office, which I am guessing was the desired effect since the map uses custom textures (which I personally really like). The lighting is fairly flat, which actually adds to the mood of the level. The one are of this level that shines, is the small office cubicle section and nearby stairwell. There is lots of line of sight, but even more cover, and the stairwell is very realistic and can be quite tricky to ascend if someone is guarding it.
The gameplay for the level is good, solid fragging, but nothing that leaps out and makes you want to call all of your friends and get them to download the file immediately. Bot support is good, the bots move around the level with ease, and are ruthless when they have you cornered (which is fairly frequent). Weapon placement for the level seems a bit random, and there were times when I was running around for a while without any weapons. Overall, I would rate this as a good solid Deathmatch level, no frills, no gimmiks, that is worthy of a download, but isn't going to win any prizes. I suspect the map will become fairly common on Infiltration servers everywhere, as it has the right feel. |

| Christiaan | Rating: 7 | | Yeah! A 007 map from GoldenEye! Great!
| Deathwing | Rating: 5.5 | | No, not great. This map should have stayed on the console.
| Lophead | Rating: 4 | | I would rate this higher if somehow i could replace archives on my N64 with this one, but i cant and so it doesnt provide much fun for the realms of UT.

| Mxtrmntr 05-12-2003 07:51 AM MDT | Rating: 3 | | Probably not bad for a goldeneye nostalgia game, but apart of that, this kind of map doesn't really work for UT:| the graphics are repetitive, the map doesn't really flow, has hardly any z-axis fighting and feels way too tight for a UT map in places. I don't doubt that this map felt nice in Goldeneye, but it's not the kind of map that fits UT...
| Draconis 06-27-2003 02:10 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | Indeed the map has way to much small places to have a good fight at. Very narrow and small arreas make it nearly impossible to dodge anything... only worth the dl for the 007 fans
