| Blaaguuu 10-29-2004 02:45 PM MDT | Rating: 3 | | lots of halls, with no real flow, or any areas of interest. a spot or two with really bad performance. the lift is way to slow, and pauses for far too long.
[Edit] someone thought i was flaming the mapper, so let me clarify. i thought it was a bad map, and so i provided criticism of certain aspects of the map that i specifically didnt like... i thoguht taht was the point of these comments. hopefully this mapper will continue his work, and make higher quality maps in the future.
| DarKGamer 10-31-2004 09:11 AM MST | Rating: 9.5 | | Well, aren't we a bit flame happy? The map gets great framerates, the layout is perfectly fine, and I'd like to see you do better. Xiphon, this is a really great map, that guy just likes to flame people without using any grammer. Also, I see nothing wrong with the bot support or the speed of the lift.
[EDIT] "the eyecandy is purely copied from other maps" Hey Dumb***, it uses stock UT2k4 meshes, not everyone can make their own static meshes.
I just love how some people (particually those who comment on NaliCity) look at the screenshots and believe it constitutes playing the map itself, like the first guy.
[EDIT2] In all maps, the water disappears with lowered world detail, it's a bug with the editor, not with the map.
| AJSchiavoni 10-28-2004 08:52 PM MDT | | looks good, but does it play good.... to be continued
| julian141 10-29-2004 12:52 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | This map is quite rushed, there is not enough eyecandy and the map is very big. You should have spent a bit more time on getting the theme right as well. This map needs a bit more work.
| VerMoorD 10-30-2004 03:33 PM MDT | | "without using any grammer."
Classic :)
*EDIT* I agree.. you shouldn't slam a mapper for using the stock static meshes. Hell, if he's just starting out it's hard enough just learning Ued let alone learning Maya, Max or another modelling program as well.
| slaskan 10-31-2004 08:31 AM MST | | the eyecandy is just purly copied from other maps so also the water disappeares when lowering settings :@
[EDIT] im not the dum....s here igf u read my comment and then actually try the map in low detail level ull see no water or anything because the water is copied from DM-corrugation, but in that map the water was just a layer over the ground so it didnt matter but when i played this map there was no water on WORLD DETAIL low so i thaught that i could walk in the water cube, it was very annoying
| Xiphon 11-06-2004 01:20 AM MST | | Now, slaskan is correct on this, the water is copied from DM-Corrugation. How he figured it out, I'll never know.
Truth is, I can't get my water surfaces to work, and none of the big popular mappers will answere my E-mails. I also have trouble with custom statics because I don't own any software besides unreal ed able to tackle that issue. I've heard that making them in Unreal Ed isn't worth the time and its better to shell out the cash. (I've heard there's a training version of maya on the cd, but i can't find it).
I going to try either downloading them, or taking the risk of using Unreal Ed for future maps because I'm sick and tired of the ones on the cd. (Hey, after 10 maps of using the sold ones, you would be to).
As for everything else, water surfaces, emitters, weather effects, I'll just have to patiently wait for somebody to tell me how to make them work, or direct me to a sight where I can find out. hint hint.

[EDIT] Thanks Sandorski, but I did find it before you posted that review. I'm in the process of learning how to use the thing as we speak. My next map, though still using the stock statics, will look a lot better as well, with some very interesting effects...
| Manticore 11-01-2004 02:09 AM MST | Rating: 4.5 | | As far as gameplay goes on this map a higher player load could have been a good idea. There are some interesting pathways and some z-axis which keeps things moving.
Again I must comment on the suitablity of the architecture. Some elements look like they can't bear the load and other elements, quite frankly, look simply carved (read subtracted) BSP stuff.
In my opinion the mapper should take a bit more time to research how the gameplay is going to interact with the architecture and plan a bit more on getting the two concepts working together.
In my opinion.....
| sandorski 11-01-2004 06:56 AM MST | | Xiphon: Maya PLE comes with UT2k4 and is great for making Static Meshes. It is on CD6(PLay Disk) in the Extras directory for the CD version or Directiry CD6 in the Extras directory for the DVD version.
