Map DescriptionMSU Phase 4 Best ONS Level: first place

A map set across a vast sketch of a neglected and long forgotten beach, the sands are shifting once more. Heralded by the fierce thunderstorm high above, the sun seemingly starts to recapture the land, and below an epic battle erupts between ancient shipwrecks and aged rocks. The map is almost entirely made of new content.

-For increased visual quality turn off the fog in singleplay games: "Show fog" in console.
-The map is fully configured for different detail settings. Turning projectors off and world detail to low will give you at least twice as many FPS in most cases. Use it.

Very Nice :D

Some minor grimps are the sky has almost no real movement to it. I heard you had some complicated shaders so this could be why... But if it is not the sky is really too still for a such a lush envio. A few more minor things that I noticed that were pretty weird are the rain drops... it is cubic looking and the leaf blowing from the trees are huge compared to the tree leafs them self and also the leafs speed really did not feel right, if the leafs were going that slow I would think it would steadily fall down.

I also saw a few smallish bugs… The books and stones are not aligned to the terrain so those are floating in the air it is the books with the camp fire.

Even though this is new to ONS, it almost does not seem new the stuff you usually do Hourences. I really want to see you do a totally new theme that does not include awesome Victorian style torn down houses, sweet industrial age warehouses, cave/outside amazing environments, or a combination of all these in one. One thing that I have liked about your maps especially with the new engine are the disheveled look that is honestly really hard for people to do sometimes. You also like to explore some ideas further at times such as the water in this level which even the Epic/DE peeps have not done.

I am honestly torn for 8 or 9 so I went in the middle.

The map looks and plays really quite well. The fog is a little bit too intense, but can easily be disabled offline.

It's all very very morrowind.

Very good visuals, nice theme, nice layout and balance.
It's probably one of the top five ONS maps I ever downloaded, if not even top three.
Some minor things I don't like (the leaves are just weird, they don't feel right).
The Default node setup is really unique, and I have to play it a little more. The Simple node setup looks good too.

Very nice, the wreckage and water stuff is really good.

Only problems I could find was messed up textures round the cracks on the roofs above each base, and the way the raptor smacks into a blocking volume when they climb high, instead of just stalling above a certain height.

I'm not a massive fan of Onslaught, but this is one damned fun and great looking map. The theme is executed so well by every trick available to the mapper, and the layout is something I've never seen before... I'm not sure I expected anything less from Hourences mind you - This should really ship in the Editor's Choice Edition...

This map does NOT run slow AT ALL !,amazing,only things seemd off were the leaves fall in places ware you wouldn't think they should fall.the one cliff looking up and or a cliff there,has a vshape,top edge overshoots out kinda far out ,didn't seem right.(a cliff you can't get on.)On the dock the water texture moves unaturaly back and forth,but on the shore and further away looks great.sounds are good but birds should be closer to be the volume,kinda too loud,but it could sound that way too.Didn't go for the shiny in the rockcliff texture(ut04 and shiny seem to be the thing these days i guess).
And thank god you didnt make a overdone rain,looks perfect drips - rain.Swaying trees and projectors very well done there.Even though I am tired of fog in every dang map these days,on this one it fits ,mabye a little thickesh while looking at upper cliffs.And I love the cave enterances-caves all very nice.
I cant comment on ONS, part of it,don't play it enough to say anything there.or vehicles or weapons.Nice coloration ,all fits well.nice mappage.
Oh the only thing I haved turned off is actor shadows,and decal to low.I run al maps at 1024,32bit,all else is cranked.This map didn't flinch one bit.

This map owns both in visuals as in gameplay, somehow the layout is kind of unique, at least IMHO. The nodes are symmetrically placed, and placed very well, only sometimes a bit confusing when you're on the beach and can't find the central node (which is on top of course)
Original skybox, original beach theme, sublime custom content, and the DAREDEVIL 'launchpads' for the greatest Scorpion leaps ever! Gonna review this one at Mapraider I think.
That all added up this map MUST be on everyone's HDD, missing out on this baby is the worst sin today.

The ocean looks great, but that's offset by bland texture work on the terrain. There's some interest in height in the layout, but that's countered by the lack of width, lending the map a linearity that may have been intentional, but feels irksome and awkward after only a few games.

Don't get me wrong, I think Dinora's a very good map, but for me not a '9' or '10'.

Glad to see Hourences still finds time to map for us... ^_^

I played this last night and have to say it's my current favorite ONS map. At first glance the map looks big. The visuals and atmosphere just pull you right in to create an immersive realistic coastal cliff area. The wind, water, splashes, lighting, and terrain are designed to perfection. I really enjoyed the thunderstorm effects but think the lightning in the skybox needs some improvement. Yes, the lightning and thunder is good right now, but enlarging the flashes in the top of the skybox (they're commonly hard to notice over the tops of the cliffs) and trying to add some lightning strikes or the kind that streaks across the sky would perfect these effects. Bases are basic buildings and all nodes are outside, but there is plenty of cover and visibily around. Vehicles and players are on a level playing field--another touch that most maps lack.

The bottom line is that you should download this and give it a perminant spot on your HDD. Outstanding map! Better lightning could improve it, but who stares at the skybox all match long? :p

A very good map. And about the fog (said in the news) - I don't agree with fordy. Fog adds some atmosphere cause the lightning of the map is like in stormy weather, and fog in such weather is a common thig on the shores

Great looking map, but almost every spawn point subjects you to having to run unarmed through manta and raptor spam to get to a wepons locker as they are all sitting right next to the nodes and cores. If you're lucky you actually have the avril half way drawn before you die. Makes for a terrible play experience but it has some nice visuals. The pier and pilings sort of remind me of ONS-Whitesands. Everything is cramped when you get to the middle node and the cores, and you cant shoot through the window in back of the core. :grrrrr: Not what I expected from Hourenes at all really...
Swapping the locations of the bender and manta at the cores would have made for better bender daredevils off of the base retaining wall too.

I won't comment on gameplay, cuz ONS is well, not played by me at all, so I spectate bots, and this has some nice visuals, but to offset the gameplay, they could have been better, more time on the visuals would have made this a 9 for me. The sky is good, but as with most ring skys, they don't look to good when most of it is visible.

This map is COOOOL!
This is one of my favourite ONS maps!
Everything looks great, the sky, the falling leaves, the lightning! It has an apocalyptic feeling, which makes it great for a battle.
I think it should get a 10.
I say it must be reviewed.

Very good atmosphere and conistent theme! Loved the effects of the water hitting the shore, and the leaves coming out of the trees. I haven't tested the bots yet so I'm not leaving a score. There are a few flaws though.. First and most importantly is the skybox - it's not moving! That really kills the immersion in this map. Second thing is that the terrain work, while very well formed, is a tad overstretched in texturing. Fix those things, and assuming the bots have no errors, then this level would easily be a 10.

Almost perfect. The only thing I did not like are the playerstarts, which most of them are not aiming a weapon locker and that confuses me... Custom music would have been cool too...
The rest of the map is great, I really liked how well the thunder & lightning effects have been done... And framerates are not so bad... :)

Everybody keeps saying how beautiful this map is, and they're right. Best looking water I've seen in UE2. And it runs smoother for me than about any ONS map using my usual detail settings (mostly high, World Detail= normal). All I can see that you miss by going from high to normal world detail is a few raindrops.

I've got one minor beef with the visuals, though - Water splashes against the rocks just out to sea, but then just blends in with the shore. There is surf in ONS-Islandhop (e.g.), so I don't know why not here. Maybe the texture didn't look right, but then I don't know the first thing about UED3.

Gameplay is excellent, with the nodes all protected from cheap attacks. Great idea there. It's almost impossible to get to the core without a coordinated assault. I have to echo the complaint about the playerstarts, though. Sometimes you spawn a good 3 second run from a node/weapon locker.

My biggest complaint is that you get no idea whatsoever of how the nodes link to each other by looking at the node map. You just have to play a few times to figure out how it works.

But if you must DL one map, you have a 2400 baud connection (like me, almost) and you like ONS, DL this one.
