The small arena is an open square, containing a raised cylindrical structure in the center, with a hole to drop down into its interior. Not all that much, but it creates a very nice venue for 1 on 1. The simplicity makes it easy to concentrate on fighting, not finding your way around. The flow is just right. Visuals are pretty good, with properly sourced lights, well chosen (but minorly missaligned) textures, and some pretty good terrain blending to the skybox. The editor reveals that the brushes are aligned to the grid! Excellent, that is essential to making great maps. Botpathing was very haphazard, however, with some nodes clustered far to closely and not centered on walkways. I would also suggest raising the height of the ceiling, because even though it is seen as a skybox, projectiles hit it and reveal how low it is. Item placement was pretty good, with only the shock rifle, pulse gun, and flak available. You have to swim for the flak, a great addition that helps balance. I found to be the health and shielding on the roof excessive, though. Worth the download for fans of quick and easy 1 on 1, I will definitely check out this author's next work.

The sky-box is a bit to plain, the mountain like surroundings needs an other plane: one plane of mountains in-game up-close, one plane far awat still in game and the sky-box for the third plane, mountains looks a bit fake by the way, mainly due to bad texture chose.
I found one error, nothing big or special. One the left side of on of the stairs leading up to the platform is a torch with two volumetric brushes, one of them is shifted out of plae a bit so it's pretty clear to see.
This map is a nice try, GreetZ XepptizZ
| Cypher Bane 07-26-2004 04:17 PM MDT | | Thanks for all the feed back this was quite a spur of the moment map but I'd like more feedback please.
| Innominate 07-26-2004 10:38 PM MDT | | Lol You wanted more feedback and it's a small file so I DLed it but when I opened up the .zip file I saw a .unr file, wtf is a .unr file? Then I remember that .unr is a UT file... well you won't get any feedback from me since I don't have UT installed. Lol Can't believe I DLed a map without looking at which UT it was for.

The map; I like the main supports around the doors and the faces in the lower room. I didn't like the lighting nor the mountain range beyond the wall, it just looks like it has no texture to it and the blue colour takes over the wanted look, i think. I think you could tone down the moonlight a lot and get the same effect from it quite easily. Also, i would add some tops to the end walls to edge the arena off somewhat, the fire is ok and fitting for your map. It would look better if you made the flames come from somewhere and not just stood on top of an empty pillar. Since you seem to know how to build brushes, i would make some sort of archway across the top platform, a focal point if you like, i would also put the health vials around the edge of the map and the vest in the pool. This is a nice little map, but the biggest thing for me is the harsh lighting.
P.S Lower the step in the main area, i learned very quickly that this stops dodging and thus kills gameflow.
