Heh. Very interesting. Sort of a 'gimmick map', DM-Faith has a series of floating platforms connected by invisible walkways.. a 'test of faith' as it were. (perhaps you can see from the screenshot)
Those damn sniping campers will have a blast on this puppy, as you have to watch your feet quite a bit and it makes dodging bullets and whatnot a bit more of a challenge than it would be normally. One mis-step, and Aiiieeeeeeeeeeeee!
In his "Known Bugs" listing in the readme, the author mentions that 'There is a spot in the Brazier Tunnel where the bots seem to get stuck on the path until they see an opponent.' However I found a few more.. The GESBioRifle, which is in the Brazier tunnel, never respawns.. it's partially sunken into the floor at first.. I get the impression that on respawning it falls through and sinks to the bottom of the cavern. Also the shield belt never respawns during botmatch play. I didn't get the opportunity to test this online to see if it was the case all the way around, but this still should be fixed. Decent placement on the shield belt and redeemer though.
I could have wished for a few more small ammo caches around just to re-stock a little while running around .. the ammo for each weapon seemed to be found only near the weapon itself with the exception of flak, sniper rifle, and rockets. The imbalance seemed a bit strange, and doesn't really lend itself to flow very well, since you really don't have to move far to get the ammo for the weapon you just picked up... practically *inspires* camping.
Lighting is nice, and used to halfway decent effect, but could use some work as well. Texturing was nice in some areas, but there are texture alignment problems around as well as a few bsp errors (not all that noticible unless you look for them, but still...) The skybox also left something to be desired, however from inside the map, all you can see is a tiny portion of it -- not a noticible problem for the most part.
The bots also get stuck standing on the platform with the Rocket launcher, until they spot someone.. I found this quite odd as there's plenty of places for them to run to from there. Definitely some re-pathing in order here, on top of the rest of the fixes.
In the readme file, the author indicates that it can also be played as a Domination map by copying and renaming it DOM-Faith. I haven't tried that yet, myself, but it's interesting that he added the domination points to it as well.
Since this is an initial release, I'm somewhat surprised at the author for not having it more thoroughly tested prior to posting it to NaliCity. With the errors in the map as prevalent as they are, you would think they would have been caught sooner. Let this be a warning to all you mappers, and I'm REALLY surprised that we at NaliCity have to keep repeating this .. test your maps!!!
I hope he fixes the bugs in this and doesn't just give up on it and ignore his previous work like a lot of mappers I know that shall remain unnamed. Download it, and check it out, but bug the author to fix it! STIR that soup! =8)
