Here's an interesting one by Shinigami; After hearing many players complain about the dearth of maps with dissimilar bases, he created this one -- One flag is set on a sunken ship surrounded by water, the other flag is inside a church.


Graphics are extremely nice -- the rotating waterwheel is an espcecially nice touch, but as Shinigami notes, it does slow down the map some. The architectural and texturing details really add to the presence of the map, but you will take a processor/3D hit to speed if you are not up to snuff. Attention to detail is lovely however, so if you are used to playing on Zeitkind-level maps, you should have very little trouble here. There are many details here that most mappers simply overlook.


(IMHO, Fragging isn't everything; the eye-candy has a lot to add to a map, however in the case of slower systems, it can also be a detriment.. the Jury's out on this one, however now that we have the reader comments in place, you can give me some feedback on this, so that I know what you prefer.. considering how fast today's cards and systems are this is probably less of a deal than it was a year ago. --fuzz)


Another nice touch is the presence of the red and blue moons over each bases' side, so if you ever get lost, you can look up to see which way to run. :-)


Ammo placement is scattered about, and seems fairly well thought out although a little chaotic (the map will also play as a DM or DOM level) in some places. Try this one with the Volatile Ammo mutator. :-)


Bots were another story though.. it seemed to me that the red team bots had a bit more trouble seeing what was going on than the blue team -- when told to 'Defend the Base' there were many occasions when "out of sight and out of mind" was in play. I had one bot get lost somewhere in the church demenses and despite repeated commands to either Cover Me or Take Their Flag, it never left wherever it was.. and I never found where it was hiding.


The Blue team bots seemed to have it together, and made a goodly number of assaults on the red team base, as well as effectively defending their own base, but again, some rather inexplicable behaviour was in evidence.


Shinigami recommends around 12 players -- typically I test with around 6 bots since any confusion in bot behaviour shows up when they have to frag less and think more :-)


The Music track here was contributed by a friend of Shini's and suits the level well.. kudos for using something original rather than the same old same old. Some additional sound placement in other places could have been used but overall, the effect is pleasing.


All in all, while the playability suffers somewhat on lower-end systems (I'm right on the borderline with a v3 3000), CTF-NalisAzure][ is a very high-class ctf design that belongs on high-bandwidth servers (like those serving up the Darji16 and Noxion16 class of maps.) and is strongly recommended.

It's too slow. Especially for a map needing 12+ players. Looks nice but I get like 20 fps average on my p3-733 with 32 mb g400. That's not a killer machine, but should be sufficient.

I agree with the review for the most part, but I have played the map online several times and the gameplay is a dump. The 'coolness' factor on this map is out of this world- it really is a work of art. I'm just not big on the gameplay itself, especially the town area.

I personally like this map. The textures didn't bother me at all..very realistic. I especially liked the fact that the author added breakable glass which most maps do not have. The boat did reduce my fps to about 16-25, but it didn't "slow" my system down any that I could notice. I have a geforce, 700mhz thunderbird, and 386 megs. It ran great on my computer. great map!

Runs barely acceptable on my machine, (iMac DV, 256 meg of RAM, 400mhz) Really nice looking and all, but performance suffers because of it. This map would make an awesome CTF4 map if Shinigami added another area and made the town the central hub...

I had the honor to beta-test this map before release. I told Shinigami about my concerns, but the map was already to close to release at that time for major changes. =/ The map is a buityful piece of art. The look of fantastic and there is sooooo much detail in it everywhere. You can walk around for hours and just look at it. A clear 10/10 in this category. The drawback of these details: In may areas the map is hardly playable on slower systems. Framerate goes down in the cellar. =/ The gameplay is ..... hmmmm. Maybe it's a matter of taste. But personally I don't like it much. The blue base is too open to defend. The midfield is kinda DM-ish.

Excellent map, I love the Graphics, My frames stayed at 35-45 at 1024*768*16 bit. System is a Dual PIII 800 (UT only uses 1) 256MB and cheapo Voodoo3 2000 PCI. Great map.. no problems here.

Holy shitballs. I didn't think it was cool at first but when i saw the cricified nalis. i shitted my pants. Now why didn't i think of that? This Map is a work of art basically. it reminds me of some kind of revalutionary war type level. I am waiting for the author to make another one so HURRY UP.

Weeellll... this is some map. I wish I made this. Things that capture my attention : graveyard, sinken ship, mill-whell, stable, movers... Prety good presentation of what can be done with UnrealEd - little bit of everything in good relation. Eye candy. A map to learn from !

Aside from the pinchy fps in areas, it plays and looks great.

As a theme map, I rate this a 9. As for gameplay, I would have to rate it as an 7. Eye candy and little extras abound. But the cost of all this is that you need a machine with some horsepower to pull off any decent fps. It's worth the download if only to wander around and check out the scenery IMHO.

This map is incredible !!!!!! If u don't have it - get it or you've never really lived !!! I'd say this is the best map ever made - not just for CTF,UT or FPS !!! The author is a god in map making and I can't wait to see more maps from him! The flow, the detail, the layout - everything is perfect at this level!

First of all, i love that Nalis hung in these crosss.
And the map desing astonish me.

This is one of the perfect maps(like Gateways and Bliss). The only disturbing thing is the inferior blue base-it's not bad at all, but the red chappel is SO DAMN GOOD. As is the map as a whole.

Great atmosphere, gameplay, layout, and pretty much everything else. Only thing keeping it from a 10 is the bots don't use all the routes, (they're lacking one), and bots defending the red base don't get off the elevators in for the sniper towers. They just ride them up, and down, up, and down...

Bad Points:
-bots can get stuck in the water by the blue base ship
-sniper towers are incomplete and too small. they could use ammo for snipers
-overall placement. blue have a harder time defending due to the cave

It's a good map. Well worth the download. It would play best with human players rather than bots. There are a few design problems, but nothing too major

I havent got this map but im giving it a 10 to make up for ALL THEM LITTLE CHEAPOS WHO CANT AFFORD A GOOD COMPUTER WHO SHOULD GO WHINE AND GET THIER MUMS TO BUY THEM BETTER THAN THE SHITE THEY HAVE NOW and ive seen all the comps ppl have and none have faster than me =) but 64 mg graphics = / tho tbh i dnt think it makes THAT much difference if ure comp is too bad to play a game plz dont write reports on them because YOU KNOW NOTHING =) i hope this dont offend man people but sum 1 had to say it

ACTUALLY alot of the people complaining about fps can actually run maps like this smoothly, you see..memory only comes in to play with resolutions, try turning down to 640x480, its hardly much difference and 2048x1024 is kinda pointless and will bog down your system naturally anyway, alot of "lower end" systems are capable of doing more than people think they can, just try decreasing the screen res on the game...screen res isnt much of a fuss and no it doesnt make a severe difference so just try it out :)

great map it ran fine on my SIS-500 card(very oldskool) 400mhz pc :) so hey
suckage is not always suckage right?

Such good detail, like it;)
Architecture at the town are ok.
I don't know why people love this beauty
The architecture is not except much
Texture are well done( the moon is shining are Air-Breathing!)
A lot of good placed detail(christal, movers that go up and down)
the ctf-I like well, the idea is good
One base defend on land, the other of the sinking ship
This is(all right) one of the best outside maps that you can have

A nice well done!
