|I was tempted to give this map one point because it runs, but that would be being far too generous. This is quite possibly the worst DM map I've ever played. Yes, even worse than DM-RageArena. By far. At least Rage has a little room to move in before you die. Melfunnel_XI consists of a handful of parallel hallways, all of which are scarcely more than 160 UUs wide, making effective evasion virtually impossible. Even though the architecture is simplicity itself, requiring only 22 brushes to create, not one of those brushes is aligned to the grid. Not one. It's almost as if the author tried to employ the most horrible mapping technique possible, but the scary thing is that this map is actually out there being played somewhere. It has mirrors too, used for no reason at all, which is a pet peeve of mine. It reeks of a mapper doing things just because he can, without bothering to wonder if he should.
While trapped in these claustrophobia-inducing hallways, you'll find that every single weapon is in here, along with ammo caches containing about a dozen pickups sitting right next to one another, and eight -- yes, eight -- redeemers. All crammed into a map that's dwarfed by DM-Stalwart. Every pickup is in here as well, if you can live long enough to get them, not that any of them will be of any help. The central area where the hallways meet, which is still too small to move around in, has 18 playerstarts all placed right next to one another, which face outward from the main area to make doubly certain you get shot in the back immediately upon spawning.
To put it succinctly, DM-Melfunnel_XI is to mapping what Battlefield Earth was to film. It's that bad. And you know what the scariest thing of all is? If the map's title is telling the truth, this is the author's eleventh shot at making a map like this, and it still sucks this badly. If it was the author's first map, I would dial the excoriation back a few notches, but after eleven tries, a monkey could produce better work than this. A monkey might even manage better on the first try. (Monkeys are pretty smart.) JonnyMellis should be banned by international law from ever opening UnrealEd again. I pray that he never breeds.

|First of all I have to salut Ironblayde for writing all that text (this map is hardly worth the effort) and for hating it so purely and truely.
I am the admin of the server "MELSOFT SMALL FAST CUSTOM MAPS" and I agree that the map sucks but the gameplay on this server is fast, insane and crazy and the players don´t have time or even care if the map is well-built or not.
The point is that there is players on this server -EVERY DAY and I have not had one single mail suggesting a map removal (yet).Anyway I think Ironblaydes comment is great, I´ve printed it and its now decorating the wall in the "server-room"...
But I´ll have to warn you JonnyMellis will keep on mapping and eventually upload to NC3... BEWARE :)
EDIT:Why all this hostility? (Really it´s only a game...)
If you guys want something new to hate, check out

Someone (an UT player I guess...) mailed us and
suggested we should put out a "map-pack" for
download online.We have done just that and this map is/was a part of it.
I started to upload the maps 1by 1 to NC3 before I
realized it was better to send them all in one zipfile.
-So the error is mine and I am sorry if I have offended
anyone in anyway.

|Ironblaydes comments were supposed to be helpful, Obviously you or the mapper couldnt give a sh!t. If your players are so stupid not to notice the crap map they are plying in, then checkout the Stairway to heaven map posted a few weeks back. Considering the sum total of your combined brain cells (all 42 of em) it will no doubt keep you all happy for decades.

|I have a question: why do you put it online if you don't care if it's build right? Most people here gives 1 to 2 points for gameplay, and architecture/lightning/lay-out the other points..
So..visually it sucks, but maybe..maybe it could have something that called gameplay..
But that's old UT style gameplay, and the reason why nobody plays UT anymore..they have play that to much.

|not the best melfunnel map by a long chalk, but still playable and fun. Doesn't look too bad either.
some of the comments here reflect a total ability to appreciate other styles of UT - this is a fast a furious UT style, and if you wanna go wandering around maps like this checking out the wall designs, then you're gonna be fried and fast.
if you don't like funnel maps, don't bother to comment - we dont care what you think, we wanna know what people who like funnel maps think.
