| Commander2 08-05-2005 02:33 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | This map is badass, nicely balanced with plenty of ways to get to the base. nice sniper areas and some middle rooms. Love this map!
Yes, it is based off of a quake map, but hell, that doesn't keep it from being awesome.
| Doc K 08-05-2005 12:00 PM MDT | Rating: 8.5 | | Roger that Commander2! This was another old favorite. Whenever I saw a public server running this one and it had a good # of players on, I was so there!
[EDIT 8/5/05] Personal tastes aside, I'm really surprised by West's 4 rating. It may not be a particularly pretty map, but I'm squarely in the function-over-form, gameplay is more important than eyecandy school, and this map has gameplay in spades. Obviously West hasn't played this one on a well populated server. And that's a shame. :{
| West 08-13-2005 09:55 AM MDT | Rating: 4 | | From your enthusiastic comments I got the impression that this was some old UT gem that I'd missed. Not so, it's just a dull, barely average map. I was going to give it a 5, but I'll subtract one point since it's practically a clone of an old Quake II CTF map.
Edit: As it happens I also think that gameplay is more important than eye candy, but come on! It's not like there's only two grades on the scale -- maps with good looks and maps with good gameplay. There are many maps that play great but still manages to look good. Furthermore, there's a few not-so great looking maps that I love (CTF-Eagles, for example, and CTF-Kinshasa), but those are at least a little innovative. What I'm saying is, I don't mind maps being visually bland as long as concept/layout is imaginative and fun. Mcswartzly][ is simply bland, just another futuristic installation map, and rating it 9 is mocking the efforts of more talented mappers.
And no, I haven't played it on a well populated server since I only play a) against bots or b) on private servers with people I know. I don't know, but I've just never been fond of getting my butt publicly kicked and having kids half my age yell "pwned" and "n00b" at me. Just not my idea of fun.
| redfist 08-13-2005 01:33 PM MDT | | I dunno but this map seemed to have invaded a bunch of servers way back and was wondering about the history of it,because I don't know about a quake2 clone but this map name or how much I had seen it was wondering about it's origins. Or was this a part of some awesome map pack ? way back ,it just seems so familiar
West ""and having kids half my age yell "pwned" and "n00b" at me. Just not my idea of fun. "" LoL I totaly agree ,and then they use aimbots,LoL
| Chrysaor 08-06-2005 12:14 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | I think it was just really popular with clans. It's spammy and good for shockers. It's fun.
