CTF-Deck17_TTF | | Map Info |
| | File Name | ctf-deck17_ttf.zip | Author | Orion(Co30) | Gametype | UT2k4 Capture The Flag | Date Added | 01-02-2006 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 11.84 mb | Player Count | 8 - 16 | Map Description | Yet another remake of the venerable Deck16. This one, however, is a CTF map, but instead of fitting the whole thing within the limits of the original map, I made a mirror image second part and connected it to the first part. A little retexturing, a little recoloring of the lights, some tweaking of the architecture and bot pathing, and I ended up with a surprisingly challenging CTF arena that is great fun to play in. | Review Rating | -- | User Rating | -- | Overall Rating | -- |

| GTD-Carthage 01-02-2006 05:09 AM MST | | Deck map in the horizon! Ohhh boy... this comment box is gonna be witness to some "heat".
| gk 01-02-2006 08:14 AM MST | | Lighting seems to be a bit over-saturated..
| redfist 01-04-2006 03:11 AM MST | | This level seems a bit oversaturated.there was another one (ctf) for ut with the same idea. It had funky green water, all shiny.
EDIT Now redo some quake maps, or one not from the ut engine. (oh I meant deck maps have Saturated the world, not the lighting.)
| goldfenix 01-03-2006 10:45 PM MST | | is it basically deck17 but symetrical? I still dont like the idea that it was someone elses map to begin with... Maybe... But the composers start from scratch. They redo the entire piece and change it to make it there own style. Copying or editing a map then re-releasing it doesn't and most of the time need not start from scratch. The other auther (like maybe yourself) will take the map and add some things, change the gametype, or make it symetrical if it's a conversion from Dm to a base oriented gametype. Then, when they're done, the map is basically the same thing except maybe slightly altered. Making your own map using a map's theme and style is just fine, but taking the original piece and altering it is almost like plagerism, except maybe not has severe... Like the user below me's idea: making a Deck18, is fine. Making a sequel to a map is alright I guess, just as long as it isn't the same map as far as layout, gameplay, maybe appearance, etc. I guess I won't wrry has much, knowing how you didn't just add 2 health vials or make a simple gametype change like some other people did...
| Cyrss's Female Dog 01-04-2006 09:26 AM MST | | I am sorry Orion(Co30) but I agree with the User above me ^
Deck17 was a great follow-up to the Deck16 UT map and really should be left alone.
Deck18 in UT2k7 anyone?
Edit:Sure remakes are fine, for new mappers to use as 'learning/bases etc..'.I not agree that retail maps shouldn't be used, but my opinion thinks they are for personal use and not really for upload material.
| Orion(Co30) 01-03-2006 05:16 PM MST | | I don't usually do remakes, but there are exceptions to every rules. I see this more like a variation than a remake. It's something done often in music, composers take a music piece and write variations of it, sometimes hundreds of them. It's a recognized form of art and I see no reason we should not applie it to mapping also, up to a point.
Concerning the apparently over saturated lights, they really are not, except at the flag bases themselves. When you actually play the map, the colors are more subdued that it appears on the screenshots and they in no way interfere with the colors of the skins. Blue team and red team are still perfectly easy to tell apart. Plus, I changed nothing to the lights on the red side, they are as they were in DM-Deck17 itself, and I never heard anyone complain that they were over saturated.
