CTF-FNB-OrionsRevenge | | Map Info |
| | File Name | ctf-fnb-orionsrevenge.zip | Author | FraGnBraG | Gametype | UT Capture the Flag | Date Added | 09-18-2005 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 14.57 mb | Player Count | 8-12 | Map Description | Location: Section-22 - Auxilliary Control and Communication Center, DELTA-144 Terrestrial Fuel Processing and Storage Facility. Operator: PlasmaCorp Processing Ltd., a subsidiary of Liandri Corp.
Situation: Friday Sep 16, 6:00 pm EST - DELTA labour union members are busy preparing for the weekly friday night ritual - a no-holds barred UT CTF match against the plant management team. Dubbed as "Frag Fridays", the union has a team of rough and ready refinery blokes (blue) all pumped up and ready to duke it out with a nasty bunch of shift supervisors (red).
Years of research by the brain-trust of Liandri Corporation showed that by having a weekly UT match between plant workers and their bosses proved to be beneficial to maintaining good labour relations and a healthy and safe work environment (by giving employees a way to blow off steam and relieve the stress of grueling production schedules.
Just when the match is about to start, an alarm sounds in the facility !!! An emergency broadcast transmission is being received via the sub-space communication relay channel...! Turns out the transmission originated from far distant Orion Station, a remote earth outpost at the edge of known space. This type of transmission could only mean one thing -- Orion Station is under attack from some hostile alien force !!!
Due to severe lag caused by magneto-gravimetric temporal variance in the sub-space communication uplink, the video images in the transmission were received in one single burst and are displayed on all of the plants control system monitors simultaneously :)
After viewing all the images, it appears as though Orion Station is in big trouble! Hopefully, by now earth military starships have been dispatched to assist Orion Station in enough time to save the outpost... what happens next will only be known when the next transmission is recieved ...
In the mean time, there's a CTF match to play ;)
Hope you all enjoy this map fnb
NOTES: (heh well, that's a pretty lame story but it'll have to do :) This CTF is best played with 10 players, better than masterful should give a good, quick match - i usually play with 10 inhumans.. given xloc, the map is pretty small and fast to get end-to-end ... note that it's best to spend a short time to learn CTF maps before you give them a serious play - gone are the days of simple obvious CTF layouts -- this one favors xloc/hammer skills and giving lots of level changing opportunities for players and bots -- speaking of bots, they won't do all that's possible in the map but they do fight well on the high skill settings and can get to you quickly in most of the time...
IMPORTANT NOTE!!! I'm using Bot_40's SmartAltPath actor in this map but i went and FORGOT to CREDIT him in the ReadMe file (doh!) :/ i'd rather not pull the map (cause i went and uploaded it everywhere) but if you want me to fix the readme credits can you let me know, bot? thanks | Review Rating | -- | User Rating | 8.5 | Overall Rating | -- |

You see that name and you already know it's gonna be good.
| West 09-19-2005 01:32 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Hey, cool map. Architecture, texturing and lighting is really good (and I love the textures, where are they from?). I got my ass royally kicked by the bots so it seems well otimized for botplay.
Wasn't too impressed with flow and layout however; I ended up running in circles a lot and it generally felt... well, a little confusing. I've only played it a few times though, so it might get better once I get a firmer grasp of the map.
I noticed no bugs save a small one: there's a black/yellow-striped trim in one place that's masked. I don't think it's supposed to be :)
All in all a fine map, though possibly a little messy in terms of layout. Good work.
| GTD-Carthage 09-19-2005 05:52 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | ... it's just sooo perfect... 'nuff said! Go download it! :)
| CyMek 09-21-2005 06:06 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Kickass! It OWNS! Many of the textures seem to be from UT2004, and they are used perfectly. Its slightly dark adn easy to get lost at first, but this is definately a map that its worth the time to know the layout. A keeper for sure.
| Arch-E-Tech 09-22-2005 10:22 PM MDT | Rating: 8.5 | | Oh yeah nice map man, like the one guy said there is that one glitch that looks bad. Other than that was flawless build. It played great too and wow looks great as well. Nice work. Awe:2.5 Build:2.5 Cast:2.5 User Point:1 Total:8.5
| FraGnBraG 09-23-2005 11:30 AM MDT | | thanks for the comments guys :) methinks the ratings are bit toooo high, LOL! really, it's not that great of a map - some parts i think are 'neat' it is a bit left of center, but not too much -- i think it's fun for a few matches anyways -- now this graphic "glitch" is a concern - i'd fix it if i could find it !!!! everything checks out fine on my systems - i see no masked stuff that's not supposed to be there, etc. i checked it in both openGL and d3d modes, and it all looks proper in the editor ... so i have no ideas! i could change the texture for something else i suppose -- could some kind soul send me a screenshot (email fragnbrag@gmail.com) or post it in the map's thread in showcase forum here at nali or ut map annnouncments at UP -- that would be a great help :) thanks everyone
*EDIT* btw, it looks much much better in OpenGL, i was almost shocked at how "lifeless" and dull maps look in D3D, well, on my computers anyways... it is well worth it to get the latest OpenGL driver for UT99 - you won't be sorry, imo :)
