This pack looks excellent! Damn my 56k! Hmm maybe i'll try downloading in chunks.
Oh and i really want to try out that map in the lowest shot. What's it called?

It's Derdak2rot's Krogaar
/edit1: @ GTD-Carthage: it's CTF-FoT-Dipolarity by Swanky, textures by chameleon, have a look at the readme
/edit2: @ revelation: nice "review" :)

A big thanks to Hourences and Swanky , and for all the mappers involved ! download it now !
Just played them all and i must say i was impressed , i had already tested a few as a beta , but finished , they are really nice . CTF-Ithaqua was the more memorable imo with CTF-Atropos . but all the maps are all great in design and theme . good job , guys !
Kantham : thats weird , i have not-so-good computer which is a bad one compared to yours and i run the maps without problems , maybe try to switch to a other renderer , like opengl or d3d8 . but apart that i dunno

The only map that ran really bad on my rig was Paranoid's, the others ran great to okay-ish, with some dips here and there (what would one expect with such eye candy maps?) Overall a nice pack, good job mappers!

It's great to see a new CTF map pack for good old UT99; I love this game and I can never have too many good CTF maps, that being my favored game type. After a quick run-trough, here's my first impressions:
This is a solid map pack with maps ranging from decent to pretty darn good. May even be some excellent ones in there -- I haven't played them enough to tell yet. The craftmanship appears to be top notch throughout and there's plenty of eye candy. Actually, my only real gripe is related to the eye candy bit. Some maps are... well, a little too graphically intensive. I experienced major FPS drops on a few of them, especially HyperFrag and Seasons of Passage (the last one being barely playable; UT2004 actually runs better on my dinosaur machine). I think that if a mapper wants to create crazily detailed maps... well, go create UT2004 maps!
This is a sweet map pack anyway, and I might write up a more elaborate review once I've played the maps a bit more. Good work, guys.

Great job,Arctic Dipolarity was my favourite one and really stood out, i loved the idea behind the marsh one too but it was a lil bit too small, if it had been a great castle in the marsh that would have been awesome (still a great map though). Overall a must download.

:o
That's file-size-armageddon for only a CTF-map-pack! Downloading right now. Comment later. :D Looks good that's for one thing.
[EDIT] BTW, what's the map in the first screenshot? It's textures would do good for a map I'm planning. :D
[EDIT 2 to koeckchen] Thanks for the info, mate. W00t! I love my new underwater base map with those textures! LOOL!!!

great maps. on CTF-HyperFrag, i noticed a hom. if you go into that big dome shaped area with the reflecting floor, stand on the edge looking down at that floor, but make sure that you are still standing out side where its lo grav. the reflection texture gives off a hom.

Nice work! :)
Couple of them had some bad framerate with no bots, even on my pretty high-end machine, but overall, some impressive (and unique!) stuff there. Personal favourites = Atropos, Dipolarity, Ithaqua - but they're all pretty good :)
So... who's doing the JB versions of the smaller ones? :P
EDIT: FnB: Seasons of Passage on my P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, NV 6800 GTO, with no bots, gave a framerate that would've been unplayable if I was actually playing it - mainly when going through the teleporters or standing at the flag looking back towards the base. Framerate with no bots on HyperFrag was also quite low in places. By low, I mean 30's, sometimes 20's... quite often under 40 anyway... which on a good system like this with no bots... is a tad low. It's mainly bad when entering new zones or turning to look at certain areas, then it settles down a bit.

Okay, i got it now. This is probably one of the best map packs i've ever got for UT. These maps are very well made in all categories. Some issues here and there but nothing i'd really make a huge case about.
I like them all to an extent, a must download if you want some good CTF maps that's for sure, nothing more needs to be said. Also people with low end rigs may have troubles with a few of these maps, especially with Seasons Of Passage (which is a nice map).
@Swanky Would there be a possible update for people who already downloaded the pack, like a patch of sorts? Would be kind of hectic to have to download that whole 80MB+ pack all over again just for a few updated maps.

@west - what is your machine ? did you read the readme. the map is made to run on p4 computers, and will run on my five year old p3 machine of 1ghz + gf2 . If you are less than that spec then you're SOL i'm affraid. it's 2005, my ancient p4 can render 200-300 FPS with 10 bots in simple cubic maps ala 1999. @300-500 poly-per-view maps nowadays i get averages of 50-70 FPS all at 1024 x 768 OGL with all settings "high". Ut can be played fairly smoothly at 30-40 fps i did that for years... with 12 inhuman bots i get around 60 fps per match (p4-1.8g) and 40 fps per match (p3-1g) in HyperFrag. if you're specs are as mine or better and you get less than that then imo you have a problem with your ut99.
@spoondog - what do you consider a bad FR ? (see above) for my p4 system, with 12 bots - SoP gave 50 fps, HF gave 60 fps, Atrops, Abandoned and krogaar gave 65 - every one elses maps ran in the 70's with only swanky's targjas at around 85 fps (which is unbeleivable but true! ) in short i had no probs running or enjoying any of these maps, except for a few lags here and there in obvious places, they run fine on my dinosaur p4 machine. the p3 had a 25% drop in overall fr on all of them, but alas...
@JuggaloKyle - did it kill you or crash the level? didn't think so - what you saw is a side effect of mirrors and reflected transparencies/fakebackdrop -- that happens even when you are inside the dome.. it is not a bug in the true sense - it is not harmful and it is unfixable. getting rid of the mirror floor is the fix - the mirrors were voted to remain during beta-testing - anyways, if anyone has suggestions to better the map a quick email would be nice so a better version could be made.... thx btw - good job to all the authors :)
*edit*
..thanks for the followup explanation SpoonDog - i appreciate :) i still get better frameRates than your getting - dunno why? i run OpenGL (utglr28) and have a 9800pro (not that gpu means much to ut :) as long as i'm indoors most of the time it runs well enough for me :)
@difool - glad you liked my map - no bot bug like that was reported during betas - tho i've personally not seen that happen i only tested with 12 bots because the path-network was too big (i warned of this is in the readme) if you check your game log and see it full of "1000 pathnodes searched" messages then thats why the fc gots stuck or just dm's - maybe you could try it with less players and see if that helps ?
thx
@G&S - lol, welcome back dude :D wait till u see our DM pack ;) new -=kiLLer=- mappage from Swanky, Paranoid, Milb, Derdak, other notable mappers (heh, including me, of course =P these new DMs will stun ya -- coming soon!

a great set of ctf maps not a dog in the bunch. i have had no fps issues with all the visuals up, but i have an asus 9800xt. but playing these maps is great. nothing's broken. the bots stomp you if you play at the right level. a few minor visual issues, which i cann't find since i'm too busy staying alive to notice. gj all authors! i guess i need to remove ut2003 as my secondary and replace it with ut
edit: man, seasons is just fantastic! the quality of the work; and the transporters! tell me have you seen a transporter in 2k4 that was so beautiful and perfect? the sceane of where you're going and the droplets on "the screen"? quality stuff
ctf-atropis has really great use of textures and construction. layout and bot pathing excellent
ctf-hyperfrag is a dream come true. those simitransparent floors are perfect. the boots and weapon layout makes sense.
these are all fine maps. if you like ut ctf, try them all, several times

>A well made CTF mappack. Sorry KingMango but I didn't see the HOM but the layout was very good. The map was one of my favorites. In Stonemarsh that HUGE HOM was frickin' scary. SeasonsOfPassage was the worst on FPS but the made up for it with everythink else. Tarjas was based off a Quake III: Arena map that i can't remember the name of. The rest of the maps were a blast to play and all of them are keepers. BTW all the new music is 1337.

Quite a cool collection of maps overall. You can add confused bots who just stand there after they grab the enemy flag at Hyperfrag to the bug list tho. That one is probably my fave (any huge map with oodles of routes to and from the flag get me drooling).

Well hyperflag and seasons are the best in my opinion, the rest of them blow.
D-7: Abandoned was removed because the author wanted it removed.

Jaw is still on the floor from Hyperfrag. Can't think of another ctf map that matches it in scope and looks on UT99, and it even runs great on my paperweight. Too large for my taste though, think it would play better as JB or TDM (besides changing the blueshift to fore and redshift to aft ;).
Nice updates on Krogaar.
I'll slap a 10 on the pack; it would be a phenomenal treat to see something even better done with UT99!

My God! I know this has been in the queue for quite some time. I also know that there has probably never been more requests for a review than this one.
I just downloaded and took a look. And here I'm now wondering why these people aren't in charge of Epic's map creation team.
The construction of fragnbrag's map is absolutely Unreal! I'll be gettin on this for everyone right away.

Kantham 04-09-2006 09:38 AM MDT | |
I can hardly rate this pack for some reason. Some of these maps are pure quality. Somehow, since the Unreal Engine 2.0 can't supost that much bsp rendered at once, it seems like i am getting a huge UNwanted FPS drop at times depending on where i am in the map and where i am looking at.
My specs are
AMD Athlon (64) 3700 @ 2.2 GHZ XFX 6800 256 MB 1 GB RAM
