TODAY'S MAP WAS PICKED BY: GNOME

DM-Zakroczym City 2
by Adamo

AWE: 1.0
BUILD: 0.5
CAST: 1.0

SAPPER: Gnome, I can't believe you made me play this map six times.
GNOME: I wanted to get a good prespective of the map from all sorts of angles.
SAPPER: In this particular case, one game should have been enough.

THE AWE FACTOR
GNOME: As conceptually sound as building a city or even a neighbourhood type map is, this particular one was poorly executed. Although the theme factor is good throughout, that's the only thing it's got going for it.
SAPPER: The overused cityscape background simply doesn't fit in with the map itself. Low buildings designed with a London 1930's look creates an almost embarassing contrast against late 22nd century vehicles that you'll find here and there.
GNOME: I just want to cut in here before Sapper bashes the polys out of this map, there was a nice system file included that helped out with the map's vegetation. It was nice to see some more realistic trees dotting an outlying suburban neighborhood.
SAPPER: you know, if he'd gone to so much trouble to make those trees, he could have made blowing off to one side. As is a problem with so many other maps, the clouds in the sky seem to be moving way to fast. And avoid exploring the outer regions of the map. If presentation means anything to you, it'll piss you off when you find yourself walking on nothing. Seriously, I don't think it's too much to ask to finish a goddamn map before you post it.

THE BUILD
GNOME: Well, let's see...the mayor of this particular town has managed to keep nicely paved and maintained roads and a relatively clean environment, although I would recommend buying a house here if you've got children.
SAPPER: ...That's funny.
GNOME: You think so?
SAPPER: Yeah, I liked that one. I also liked all of the HOMs and the lack of zones, and the poor sound and all of the HOMS...did I mention HOMs already?
GNOME: I think you did.
SAPPER: Christ! I'm not even going to go into details on this one. It would take too long.

THE CAST
SAPPER: Now here comes the part where I get to argue with Gnome about why we had to play this map so many times. He's gonna say that he wanted to try it with different numbers of bots and with different kinds of mutators. Right Gnome?
GNOME: That sounds about right. I wanted to make sure we looked at all aspects of--
SAPPER: Yeah, yeah. Except the problem was that you only had to play it once to know how everything would turn out.
GNOME: Don't interrupt me.
SAPPER: Do you have anything good to say about this map right now?
GNOME: Well, no.
SAPPER: Then I'll interrupt you all I want. Anyway, I knew that Jumpmatch/LowGrav was pointless simply because I fired a rocket into the sky and I blew up as quickly as the Challenger Space Shuttle.
GNOME: You have a sick sense of humor, you know that...
SAPPER: I also knew that using a single weapon arena mutator or changing the number of bots or players wouldn't really change the gameplay all that much because most of the fighting went on in the big town square they've got. I knew all that from the first game.
GNOME: Alright, fine, you're right, I'm sorry.

OVERALL
GNOME: So Sapper, can I assume that you don't like the map.
SAPPER: I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to select tomorrow's map.
GNOME: Well, I personally didn't really mind the map all that much, bad the bad points really outweigh the good points I'm sorry to say. Hopefully Adamo will clean it up a little bit and fix some of this stuff. Anyway, y'all have a great evening and we'll see y'all tomorrow.

SCREEN CAPTIONS:
1) We're not really sure what the purpose of this structure is. It kinda looks like the front of a church, but there's nothing really behind it.
2) A disgruntled mailman starts blasting at the local resdents' windows.
3) Nice car. Mind if I borrow it?
4) Must be late September.
5) Fence manufacturing companies made a fortune on this street.
6) The owner of this house is a dealer. He's got all the good stuff.
7) This image was taken by a tournament camera located on the light tower.
8) This image was taken by one of the locals who was later carted away in a couple of plastic bags.
9) Actually, I think I've see a real life version of this picture before.
10) My friend Rudy live in that house.

It's okay i guess, the bots work that's always cool.

Anyway there's a few problems with this map though. The first is there are some HOM's hear and there and those fences are bad, really, really bad (i'm talking about the grid looking fences). I suggest replacing the grid fences that clip the outer edge of the map with say a brick wall and just remove the rest of them (one's surrounding houses and such) or even replace those with picket fences or something better looking.

It can also get kind of laggy in the city square. It's also a little too dark in places, this didn't bother me too much though.

ADDED: I also forgot, you need to clip those broken down cars next to the roadblocks, i was running right through them and it didn't seem very realisitic.

Now this is a great map!

The only thing I might change (if I were talented enough to make maps) is to be able to go into alot of the buildings. This is a keeper in my rotation, and I wish new map makers could be this creative.

My rating and opinion, is just that, an opinion and a my own rating. This map works, and though it may be one level, with few entrances to any buildings, it is alot of fun with just bots.

Added:
Yes, I am serious. My rating is My Opinion. If you don't care for it, please feel free to turn your computer in for an Etch-a-sketch.

Are you serious?!
This is a one-layer-map with extremely simple layout, very undetailed houses (no trims, no arches...), and filled with decorations. By the way, there are BSP-holes because no semisolids were used.
Don't missunderstand me, my first map wasn't better, it was far worse, but this is certainly not a 9.5!

Certainly not worth a high rating
This map is a goddam framerate killer
now I have a fast computer but even I found out
So I turned on the fps vieuw and it dropped too much for any map!!
Ok so I played with 13 bots but this map can't be considered normal, And why the hell a double zipped file?
Then those fences, the corners and floor become white when I look at them, this is bad, I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but sorry can't say anything good.
This was the first map I experienced this with.
Try using less deco, might help.

well i wouldn't really download this map myself for personal play but this map is ok on servers when you
have at least 6 people or more though.
