| souldividersjosz 04-18-2005 09:48 AM MDT | | is it just me or is that shot too dark/vague/not 1337 to press the download button?
| Kantham 04-18-2005 12:51 PM MDT | | Somme ppl told him on the forum to drop it.
The game play is here. It's face with pyramids. But he uploaded it anyway... so don't expect a good score on this one :/
| hawkwind 04-21-2005 03:27 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | well, in order for screen shots to not look too dark, you have to open it in some manipualtion program and tweek up both the brightness and contrast. but i will dwnld and give it a run, and if it plays and looks good, then screenshot be d@%$#ed
pretty nice looking conversion. the textures and trim look better than the origional, and the idea behind the 2 pyramid ctf is sound, but 2 things need tweeking. 1)the bots sometimes through luck or whatever, manage to score, but mostly just get stuck in the zero gravity zones. 2)that water layer between the levels not only looks odd, but messes up many of the weapons. unless you shoot straight down the middle, the rockets blow up prematurely and the shock balls just go out. one of the nicest things about the origional was lobing weapons at strong angle so you killed enamies that couldn't see you.. also making a string of bio-rifle balls that would travel slowly up the zero gravity was funny, here they get stuck in the layers and aren't fun at all.. nice concept and construction, but that zero gravity zone is not as well done as the origional, and unfortunately is the key to this working right.
| Dage00 04-18-2005 03:15 PM MDT | | as i said in the forums, ill give it a spin tommorow, then ill give it a rating and comment
| Muffin 04-20-2005 11:13 PM MDT | | Hi, I'm Muffin and I've loved any decent face map since 1999.
"Hiiiii, Muffin."
There. I admitted it. Now I'm gonna d-load this and give it a whirl. Naked. (just kidding about the naked part).
;)
4/20: OK, I played it. And it sucks. Sorry, buddy, but this was ten minutes I'll never get back... (putting clothes back on...)
| _Reciprocity 04-18-2005 11:50 PM MDT | Rating: 4 | | Note: The below is a rant I've written only to oblige the aspiring author of this map. For those of you who detest rants, simply read below the dotted line.
Alright...here we have the genius (or lack there of..) of DM-Pyramid from the original UT melded with the layout of Face to form one very awkward CTF map. From the start, you regain the nostalgia that comes with remakes. Familiar design, old weapon tricks, etc. For what it's worth, the Pyramids are textured decently. Nothing looks too out of place and the build stays faithful to the original. There in causing it's downfall. I liked Pyramid for a good mindless game or two but it didn't offer anything in regards to Z-axis, actual gameplay...anything! Couchman even included a waterzone in the middle. Staying faithful to the original, this one even has water splashed to accompany the entry of projectiles to the zero-grav zone. It looks really silly. I'm almost certain you can turn those off somewhere in the water volume properties but don't hold me to that though. In the middle of these pyramids is a BSP X riddled with health vials and adrenaline and even a 100s in the middle. WTF is the risk in making an attempt to cap the flag then..? This map is almost sniper-fodder. Snipe 'till thou artst sniped in return. Though it's only with the lightning gun so you can expect it won't be as hellish as DM-OMFGSNIPERHEAVEN345361337 or whatever.
------
Skip it. It's Face with Pyramids in place of towers.
| redfist 04-19-2005 01:05 AM MDT | | Even if you just use a physicsvolume, then make it a waterzone ,it still defaults to those water rings, mabye the splash sound, pretty sure it would need a different code class, unless someone knows some trick.
| XepptizZ 04-20-2005 06:27 AM MDT | | @Redfist. Yup, a new code would be needed.
Just make a new kinda effect wich doesn't do anything at all and assign it to the zone.
| MooMasterCowman 08-14-2005 05:37 AM MDT | | I'm not even going to bother downloading this because: 1)I HATED the pyramid map in the origional UT 2)I think anyone trying to make a Face copy is just looking for an easy build. OK, so a Face clone might be a good first-map, but it shows a lack of creativity or origionality. I mean, come on, Face maps are relatively simple: 2 towers (or, in this case pyramids) and a land bridge. not much going on
