Map DescriptionIts a 1on1 map in a barn with crates 2 hide behind it
there are NO super weapons like Supershockrifle and redeemer, only flak, minigun, ripper, sniper, and bio rifle.
if u wanna pickup a Big k'O you have to be a very good jumper :P
there is a new music added by a m8 of mine, he create his own musics for UT and stuff

SAPPER: If you looked up average in the dictionary, there would be a picture of this map there.
GNOME: There have been 3 user requests to review this map...which just happened to put it at the top of the UT99 review queue. So for everyone out there waiting to hear our point of view on this one...here you go.

THE STORY
GNOME: Umm...Old MacDonald had a farm...E I E I O...

THE AWE FACTOR
SAPPER: The unsourced lighting in this map is, in my worldly opinion worse than if he hadn't bothered to put any lighting in at all. One my say that the architecture would suggest that we were in a barn, but really I never got that feeling. I've never seen a barn as cramped as this one. Even the barn in that movie Twister was less cramped than this.
GNOME: I think the texutre use is fairly minimal, pretty standard and actually quite boring.

THE BUILD
SAPPER: There are no HOMs or anything wrong with the map structually, and I could partially understand that one shouldn't expect to find alot of eye candy in a barn environment, but there really wasn't much to look at there. There's more effort put into NiP clan logo than anything else. Boo!
GNOME: I think the time and effort the must have been spent adjusting and moving brushes deserves a little credit. But i'll admit I would have liked to see...a stable maybe, even if there's no horse in it. Or how about texturing some barn doors?

THE CAST
SAPPER: There are only about 160 pathnodes in this map for the bots to follow but there are several thousand pathsways. In general, this causes some minor complications with bot movements as at some points they'll start running back and forth between to nodes and sometimes they'll go into a low path area and just wait around smoking joints and stuff.
GNOME: I found the sheer amount of clutter to be detractive to gameplay. Be careful when you use the flak cannon or else you may end up gibbing yourself.

OVERALL
GNOME: I can't really say I liked this map very much. If I were to rate this map on a more personal basis, the score would have been much lower.
SAPPER: What he said.

pretty cool map, this 1on1.
i play this map very much at 1on1 GODLIKE bot, but u are right about the box jumping about the bots, they are jumping up and off a box all the time :(
but the idea is very nice

this is my 1st map i have added on NC and i know with that bots :S it is realy hard to make a map that the bots work perfectly (i think)

but i have some but i think that the collision of the LeftCenter/Exit is 2 big (not sure) but ill will try to follow your advice in a other new map of mine :P

you are right about the sniping spots and jumpspots, its hard for me to do it right, it alway's go WRONG :(
and about the screenshot i NEVER get it a nice looking picture, its alway's BLEH and dark

the crates are no decoration but stuff to hide atfer but it dont take long for hiding with ripper and stuff to shoot around the corners

Hi GenMoKai,
In terms of the jumping, you might want to try and add some LiftCenters on top of the crates, and some LiftExits around the bases of them. LiftCenters and Exits are used in sets as well...say one LiftExit at the bottom of a crate, a LiftCenter on top of it, and another LiftExit just behind the LiftCenter...all three have to have the same LiftTag as well...so if you right click on both the LiftCenter and the Exits, go to LiftCenter or LiftExit and in the LiftTag box make sure the same text is there for all three...botjump1 or something like that. Let me know if you'd like me to try it for you.

This level looks like fun ,I got to try it,and i know i will want the RL agh.......

I mean in your map description up there,i see no Rocket Launcher............RL

Oh,I watched the bots for a little bit but they seem to be working ok.What is the prob exactly ?.
This level is more apropriate for online ,1 on 1 2 on 2.

The Rocket Launcher would Rock in here,map aint that damn small.

excellent 1-0n-1 map. good even with 3-4.
item placement is very fine, though i kind of like it best as a sniper rifle arena. the bots do well, but you cann't really expect too much of them with 40-50 different jump possibilities.
great job!

edit:
in deference to the author (GenMoKai), in this close space, most players would blow themselves to bits with the RL, me included.. i'll have to run it in RL arena mode and watch the body parts fly :)

heeeey Dennis, ik vind het een heel mooi lvl voor 1on1.
Je hebt veel dozen gebruikt waar je achter kan zitten.
Je bots zijn ook goed in gesteld vooral omdat ze heel veel moeten springen en je heb de wapens goed in verdeelt,knap gedaan:)
ik vindt het heeel mooi gedaan

Nice map. This makes the "room of boxes" style feel new again. The flow is good, particularly given all the options and the many narrow spaces between boxes. I like the feeling of ducking through a maze of trenches. I also like how the U-damage and health keg require that you jump around the wall studs (turn in mid air). The flak cannon tends to dominate this map, at least when playing against bots. It helps that there are several of them to give everyone a fair chance.

When I played against one bot, he initially blew me away with two quick flak kills, but once I got a flak cannon and got to the high ground, I was able to very effectively rain death down upon him (hooray for flak secondary). To some extent, I think the bots will always be vulnerable in that way, but some changes to pathing and some ambush points for sniping could reduce the effect. (Check in my map DM-RedFate. The bots do a lot of jumping in that.) I think I actually prefer this map with 3 or 4 people instead of just 2. It makes controlling the high areas more risky-- who knows when opponent number two might snipe you from behind a box someplace.

Visually, the map does not "wow", but it looks good. The variety of boxes help save it from what could be disaster for such a theme. Probably the worst thing about the visuals is the screenshot. It looks rather grainy and dark. The actual map is much brighter (a welcome surprise when I started playing). I usually adjust the brightness of my screenshots in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Also be careful when reducing the color depth to 256. Most of the light in the map has no apparent source. The style of the map makes this omission less glaring, but clear light sources would make the map come alive more.

All in all, it's a good map, and most importantly, fun to play.

I would start to say that I played the original "Barn" map for Soldier of Fortune II and it was my favorite map for that game.

This map looks the same, but is totally different.

The good: Remaked to be working good with the UT gameplay style. New design, when you learned every shortcut and everything you want a map with a new design.

The bad: Too many dead ends. Too much flak-madness

8.5? 9? Are you serious?
Its a box.

@genmokai: WTF have you done with the screenshot? Next time you want to put a screenshot in one of your maps mail it to me and I convert it into a pcx with 256 colors for you if you promise to never ever hurt our eyes with such a horrible screenshot.
You forgot to rotate the playerstarts so they are facing the walls.
The map is too cramped and some areas are way too dark.
And clan tags always ruin a map. No matter how well it was designed.
And never create sniping spots on purpose. That's like... ...erm... ...I find nothing equally evil.
And why are there some surfaces that are unlit? Like the rope and the hay textures?
And if you are playing in classic mode its impossible to reach most of the items. And don't say its not supposed to be played in classic mode, cause a finished map has to be playable in all three retail modes. If it doesn't work with one of the three it is not finished.
