| gk 03-27-2005 09:40 AM MST | Rating: 7.5 | | Well, it's a nice mappack with several really good maps, but I'm a bit disappointed. Some maps are imho not that good to be in such a mappack..
Good pack, but far away from the quality of the cbp..
Öhm, will there be a volume2 ?
| 213 03-27-2005 11:05 AM MST | Rating: 9.5 | | This pack is incredible! Overall I gotta give a good score here 'cause it's easy to see LOTS of hard work went into these babies. Lots of playtesting too. Now a few of the maps are meant for higher end systems to run them at High detail settings, but medium settings worked great for me. DM-Derilict- This stands out in my mind as being my favorite for pure DM goodness. It's the Hardcore entrant into the pack, with just enough detail to keep it looking interesting. DM-ImMortalis- has great eye candy, and a nice old school feel to it's gameplay. There seems to be something to be going on with that skull/throne thing, but I didn't figure it out yet. DM-ThePits- all I can say is omg. Somehow this guy took the very essence, the soul of all that has been good in games like Quake2, Doom, and Unreal, and given it all new life in the UT2k4 engine! DM-Contrast I've got a soft spot for this map too. It's beautiful in it's simplicity, and at the same time so complex in it's layout. I don't think I've seen lift jumps abused like that since well,.. ever! As of this post I've really only played the DM maps, so on those alone I can easily say this Pack is right up there with the best of the best. Oh and keep in mind along with these maps comes a few packages of free stuff to use on your own creations! These guys did a great job here, and this is one fairly noob mapper who appreciates all the effort! Much thanks guys! May you be blesed with huuuge paying contracts with Epic games soon!
| Barballs 03-27-2005 11:55 AM MST | | Thank you for the comments on Derelict :) A lot of effort has got into ALL the maps in this pack!
There will be a volume 2 aswell, just not for a little while. Lets give us a little break first eh? ;)
| cybersirius 03-27-2005 11:58 AM MST | | ABC pwns! (me go to HoverBook)
| DW 03-27-2005 12:06 PM MST | Rating: 10 | | Absolutely amazing map pack, you can tell that a lot of effort was put in every map. Intresting layouts, a lot of new ideas, and some fast action. From the new weapon to the custom skin hoverbook, to the moving parts in "The Pit", every map in the pack is worth the download. It rates a 10 in my book
| nELs0n 03-28-2005 07:21 AM MST | Rating: 7 | | whose 56k??? mine??? i run dsl... had problems with the finland server nevertheless - now it worked.
and i must say - i like the pack. some maps were a little empty in places but on the whole this pack is worth the dl imo! but as said already when it comes to quality the cbp was a bit better. oh and my absolute favorite from this one -> ONS-ABC. this map's really fun. the atmosphere in bloodrun was best though.
(and sry for posting my last comment - i just thought there might be someone who could help with this problem...)
| GTD-Carthage 03-27-2005 08:42 PM MST | | Nautilus, you're using a scale worse than the redfist rating scale! You're using the Echoes rating-scale! Stop this craziness immediately!
| ALIEN4 03-28-2005 12:39 AM MST | Rating: 8.5 | | The map pack is of high enough quality that it could have came with UT2004, and as far as map packs is concerned, its up there with CBP2. The pack is definitely a must download.
Two of the maps in the pack stand out from the rest, and these are CTF-UCMP-Arathanarid and CTF-UCMP-Aquatica. These two are of exceptional quality, both visuals and gameplay. CTF-UCMP-Aquatica is perhaps the best user-made CTF map ever created for UT2004, and CTF-UCMP-Arathanarid is a very strong second best. In both of the maps, the construction, graphics, and atmosphere are top notch. The authors did an excellent bot pathing job on the maps -- the bots proved to be ruthlessly efficient in CTF tactics. A team that is well versed in CTF tactics can put points on the board very quickly.
Overall, excellent job on the packs. Most of the maps in the pack are professional quality. Definitely a must download.
| Fuzzy Logic 03-28-2005 04:03 AM MST | Rating: 10 | | Amazing quality. This has to be the best pack release ever. Each one deserves to be released with the game. Damn the file size, start downloading now!
n.b one of the mirrors is broken, only got a 60Mb file first time too. Check the file size before d/l.
| Kantham 03-28-2005 06:33 AM MST | | I will download the maps individually I don't apreciate mappacks anymore.
| G.Lecter 03-28-2005 01:21 PM MST | Rating: 8.5 | | A few lines about every map: - ONS-ABC definitely owns. It's really original and fun despite the FPS, a bit low. - CTF-Aithanarid: Was a long time ago since I played a really good CTF, this one has become one of my favourites, awesome layout. (I liked those owl eyes...) - CTF-Aquatica became one of my favs too. It's Good looking and plays awesome. (One of the crystals broke!) - CTF-DecaneCaldera is very well done, terrain gives freedom to flagcarriers. I think this one would have worked well in BR too... - DOM-Cerebral is not bad, but too symetrical IMO, there also is a long way to take a DOM point. Glad to see a DOM one anyway... - DM-BloodRun has an awesome ambience in a quite good layout. Great work with those scary teleperters... - DM-1on1-Derelict, sometimes a bit cramped, but awesome to play 1on1. Nice lighting and liftjumps. - DM-RancidMetal has nice conectivity and dodgeramps, some parts look too bright IMO. I think there are too many vents... - DM-ImMortalis: I liked the liftjumps. I think making it symetrical was a disapointment. Walls, floor and ceiling have a similar colour, this is a bit confusing sometimes... - DM-Contrast: The layout is strange, I liked all the liftjump posibilities though. The reskined Rankin meshes look well. - DM-ThePits doesn't offer too many conectivity IMO. However, there are lots of interesting things to discover here... - DM-PleasantValey... well I am not a TokaraForest fan, so this map is not my favourite one. I think there should be less gravity, I get hurt when I fall even using the shield secondary... - Finally, I got low FPS in DM-Xanadu, it doesn't run bad with low world detail. The orange walls look too simple... I did not like the placement at all, I sometimes could not find any weapon :S I liked the roof action and the pickup bases... I really recommend the download despite the big filesize, a must have, especially for CTF fans... -Thanks to the mappers for the free texture & mesh packages :) ...and for the pack, of course...-
| Hourences 03-28-2005 08:03 PM MST | | Bloodrun = great
It would have been better if it was designed from scratch tho instead of yet again based on another level..
| THec|Ap 03-29-2005 12:23 AM MST | | Excellent work on these maps! Ive had alot of fun with the DM maps etc... Cant wait to show these at our next lan party! Id give this pack a 9 rateing! I really like the Immortalis sound effects and textures etc.... They are ALL great and you can tell alot of work went into all of these maps! Great job you guys! Keep up the good work! Hope to see vol.2 later on! Thanks!!!!!!!!
| Manticore 03-29-2005 06:07 AM MST | Rating: 9.5 | | Excellent standard of mappage. Great variety. Very playable collection.
Download.....
| $noopy 03-31-2005 02:51 AM MST | Rating: 10 | | AWESOME!!! I like it even more than CBP
And ABC is great!!! My fav map!!
| Lexar 03-31-2005 12:42 PM MST | Rating: 9 | | I like the DM levels better than CBP. Especially contrast and thePit. I also like the emphasis wasn't too much on the ONS levels, but on the more old fashioned game modes. At first site, the levels might look slightly less refined than retail or cbp, but they play very, very well. personally I like this one best of all the map packs.
| ChaosTheory 03-31-2005 05:28 PM MST | Rating: 7.5 | | I like the maps, except they need to be more optimised and cleaned up. I can really appriciate the amount of work them definately, but there are alot of places where detail is unnessesary and causes slowdown.
| Monday 04-01-2005 03:36 AM MST | Rating: 6.5 | | D/ling,go shopping,come back and find that 70% are great (didn,t like the others) which is why I rated a 6.
ABC yes is good and I like CTF maps most and found good playability with them.
| Defeat 04-24-2005 02:29 AM MDT | | >Finally dl at school and brought home. A few of these maps had dual assult rifes in them which I don't see very often and I like it. Wouldn't of noticed it any other time but I just played QIII:Arena this moring and then played UT2004 later. Bloodrun. I like the 2004 version, especially the teleporters. Xanadu was huge and looked cool but I didn't feel any flow in it more of a 16-32 player spam match, i'll take another look at it. ThePit was fun with all those moving parts and you didn't die if you fell into the water. Contrast was an odd but fun map, 1on1-Derelict was my favorite DM map don't really know why mabye it was the music.... PleasandValley didn't seem to have enought walkways but the lava underneath was cool. ImMortalis's atmosephere was awsome with all the hellish stuff everywhere. RancidMetal screamed Rankin all the way down to the spinnig gear wheel but I still like Rankin better. I hated ABC's music but all the kustom kontent was awsomwe especially the book. Aithanarid was kinda fun, Aquatica was allright, but DecanCaldra was my favorite CTF map of them all. Don't really know why it is. Cerebral was fun even though I hate the new Double Domination, oldskool domination was better. Anyway an excelent pack, no fps problems for me, can't wait for Volume 2.
| eht 05-31-2005 06:27 PM MDT | Rating: 1 | | hi--[updated]
I got my game this last jan. It is the 6cd set.I went to ut site- beginner discussions- just bought ut2004 read this-stuff you should have installed.
I downloaded and installed the Editors pack- it had a self installer- I got all of the UCMP- flag -1on1- CBP-bonus pack zip files.
I am not sure if i need them or not-so i unziped this file ucmp_volume1 into a folder to look it over etc. It opened into 9 folders, same name folders as program folders - system-maps- meshes etc.each with files but older than what is installed in my game folders. The 9th folder is ucmp_volume1, it opens into 9 more folders named like the others- and each of these folders have another empty named folder in them--
Jesssssss what is all of this- Im not sure if i am suposed to move all files from all folders into system game folders or not--and what to do with these empty named folders. I do not know if the are needed for saves back ups or what--was no instal instructions-all of the read me's are history etc.-none nothing on install- these empty folders are no place in my game files-
example> unzip files = 9 folders> 1 named> ucmp_volume1 > opens into 9x more folders> StaticMeshes > opens into 2 files #1 = UCMP-PCRGun.usx, #2 = HourDinora.usx, then is a empty folder called = antimatter_container.usx
Can they make this more confusing- I think them alot for instal instructions. I say again i am not sure i need this stuff or not-i did not know where the zip would open to or if it would add-or over right files already in program- over right files that can be many, with just the few in this zip [ maybe delete the others].
If it was just the 9 folders-i have sence enough to move files to system program folders in game- but is 2 sets of same named folders with differant files,1 set from the other etc., the number 2 set has empty named folders.
Im about sick of this game with all the cheat crap-server rights folks always messen with game mutators even during play, and what servers are honest? I read stay away from demos, well demo is just a name. All of the servers are private owned and, all owners can do what they like with the game or mods mutators what ever.
So what is offical ut servers, with no cheat crap-and the dam game just left alone-win or lose, mutators same for both teams and all players??
I wish i have not give my 50 bucks for this game. Then folks lie like hell say is no cheating or is rare,is a lot of crap. The whole thing is cheat cheat cheat.Who can cheat most and get away with it.What can ya do ? Folks have server rights, change all to help their no skil butts.
You beat the crap out of them,bamb-god blessed them with instant, skil-more armor-speed-aim all of it,and it is not combos-and they are not fighting through game for armor pickups, they spawn with it,some spawn with glowing purple super weapons also, how is that crap?
Then you have dude like game name -Player- few weeks ago was getting 200kill games, play'd with him a few times, never scores any place near that. His buds in the room tell him to turn his bots off he cant even break 20 kills in a game. Some score bot maybe, gave him some 10x his real score, Common sence says if you can 10x your score you can 2x or 3x what ever.Common sence also says all his buds have and use same cheats, and the server owner. This same player dude goes god like at will, if another has not beat him to it already. It is a rip off of mine and all others money, they cheat us of our hard work and skil - most dont even own the game, are to poor, cheat us from a demo program, or their mommas gave them the program-they did not work for it,why care if they cheat- Sorry to go on and on-but im sick of it-if any1 can answer on these files thank you... no place to add comment to this post-again is 2 sets of files-this freaken thing keeps telling me my post is to long-your site page here has no add comments that can be found
| redfist 05-31-2005 08:26 PM MDT | | I think cheating could be a 2 edged sword though, once they get caught I believe they can't access the master server list. And I think one would have to reinstall windows or change thier ISP or ethernet card.
You got to give epic some credit for trying to stop cheats, but I wish they overhauled UT and fixxed it up.
And drag over only FILES I think the directories are there because of the way they zipped it up to include the directories.
It's just a glitch, I get that doubled up crap all the time,it's the way windows works along with what and how they used the zip fil;e maker (winzip 32 bit,for win 95 is the best, low profile program, simple to use)
| ArcadiaVincennes 05-31-2005 03:08 PM MDT | | To eht:
We neglected to include installation instructions in the pack - our apologies - however they were on our website for a while. I will put them back up on the website this afternoon. www.ucmappack.org
As for the installation - presumably one unzips the file into the UT2004 directory. If you do that, then all the files should 'land' in their appropriate directory and then you are all set. If you do not do this, then after the file is unzipped, you transfer the files in each folder into the appropriate folder in your UT2004 directory. ie... anything that unzips into a 'StaticMesh' directory, would be moved in the 'Static Mesh' directory in your UT2004 folder. If the unzipped folder contains no files, then ignore it. After all the unzipped folders have been transfered, you should be all set.
The UCMP team apologizes for the inconvenience and we hope this helps. Might I make the following request? After you sucessfully complete the installation and try the maps, would you be willing to return here and adjust your score based on the mappack's quality?
And finally, in terms of cheaters - they are frustrating but there are clean servers out there. Try Atari's official servers and some cln servers are usually good. It may take some trial and error but you can bookmark the clean ones.
Good luck and thanks for giving us a try. I hope you get the zip issue sorted out.
| goldfenix 10-16-2005 06:48 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Really didn't like that ABC map. Little bizzare for Unreal if you ask me. The Dm maps were all good though. CTF-Aquatica is alright, and all the rest. The new gun was awesome, except i dont like how you cant detenate the projectiles.
