| horned demon 01-10-2005 12:03 PM MST | Rating: 5.5 | | If you never decided what UT theme you liked the most this map might help you figure it out. It has most of them rolled up in one 5MB package.do u Like a death and suffering theme with old beat up ford trucks mounted on the wall?sure!.Do you like space age theme with an open track to run your scorpion outside?who dosent!
There's even a Raptor on top of the building that u can use!and you never have to worry about there never being enough of them, becuse with the super fast respawn the split second some one takes your's Vehicle a new one will respawn. if fact just out of morbid curiosity i kept getting in the raptor and moveing it aside and befor you knew it i had a collection of over 40 raptors! And a frame rate of 5 FPS!
EDIT:Removeing some of the truck photo's dient really help,And yes for ANYBODY's first map there's alway's room for improvment. The fact that this is your first map and you where able to put in a custom sound track and add vehicle's to a DM map mean's you deffinitly explored the Unreal ed much more then other mappers whould have. The only way i'd say this map is another spam map is if you give up and dont continue trying.Nalicity is famous for "one post wonder's" where people post one map and we wonder what the Hell where they where thinking.
EDIT:4th version has some things changed;Raptor replaced by the manta, huge dirt mound in middle of road, and a cool entrance theme or...what ever you call it.
| whisper 12-19-2004 01:34 PM MST | Rating: 1.5 | | Well, it's an interesting first shot, but there are many things wrong with it. Here it goes...
1) The theme. What is the theme, anyway? It seemed largely inconsistant. It seemed like whatever you felt like making, you just put there. This isn't good - map's with coherent themes will look better and are easier to get looking good. They are much easier on the eyes and more fun to play and admire.
2) The architecture. Super basic architecture here. You need to learn how to use more static meshes and complex bsp to build a more interesting and better playing map. Subtracted cubes and halllways with only a few disjointed and not theme oriented static meshes doesn't cut it here. Open up one of the map's that came with the game. Look closely at their hallways and rooms and then compare them to yours. Hopefully you'll see the difference.
3) The texturing. Again, the textures are in no way coherent. Even then, they are simply bad choices imo. Open up an official map and look at some of their texture choices. How do they compare to yours?
4) The lighting. It is waaay to dark. Although you may personally like the ambience, not many people like fighting in the dark at all. It simply does not make good gameplay. You need to make sure you add some more lights and make sure all lights are sourced.
5) The gameplay. The inside part offers no z-axis and very cramped rooms. This does not equal good gameplay. You need to make sure that your maps flow, that every room is important and is part of an intricate web of rooms and corridors that fit nicely together. Make sure there are no dead ends. Also, if a room isn't serving a purpose (no items in it and it isn't really necessary to connect things) delete it!
The outside part is too huge and flat, try using terrain to add some z-axis action. Nobody likes fighting on a flat plane. Nobody. Also, the buildings on the outside look bare, like solid rectangles. If you don't know what to do to give them a facelift, again, look at some official maps and look at how they do the outside of things. Make it look nice.
6) Overall fun factor. Not very good, unfortunately. Bad graphics, no flow, cramped rooms, flat planes, no z-axis.... It just adds up my friend. The vehicles are an interesting touch, but if a dm map is going to have vehicles imo, it should be focused around them. They shouldn't be random additions, as they are now they really don't add to the gameplay.
Good first effort, but i suggest you take what you learned from this and make a completely new map. Salvaging this one is too much work imo.
| Jackle 12-22-2004 04:45 PM MST | | As a failry new mapper myself, i can say this.... map making for UT is quite different than other games. Due to its extremely fast pace, you need to keep that in mind and scale your rooms quite a bit bigger. Keep it open.

| Evilboone 01-10-2005 10:49 AM MST | | yea, i know. I just had to upload it one last time. I kinda wanted to see how everyone responded to the static with the emmiters on the front of the one building. (PIC 3) EDIT; I'll keep that in mind for the next my next level
| ChromeBallz 01-10-2005 08:25 AM MST | | there won't be a lot of people who'll download your map more than 1 time..... Try and get all updates in 1 time instead of spreading them out. God knows i made the same mistake.
| redfist 01-10-2005 05:13 PM MST | | The map name shoulda been named "ink" ,hard to remove from the new maps list heh.
