Unfortunatly as I am judging from the screenshot here I can see it must be a first map or somthing.I never seen a real sky chop off perfectly square,and it all looks way to bright and ,,well meshes place in a box map.
Keep working at it.

#2 I admited I only used screenshot,for my comment I am well aware of judging by screenies.
#3 I would never download a level wich has 90 degree sky corners and a bland overbright flat surface with meshes resting on it heh.

Giving this map a 7 makes me wonder,cause no way............

And Mac computers should stay as word editor systems
but Tetrus never looked soooooo good, heh

It is not a box, i like this map. The first guy forgot to mention about the underground sections, that throw off anything that makes this map seem boxy

It is definitely a first map.
Everything that could be done wrong was done wrong with this one.
1 point for not being a giant cube filled with static meshes.

I think this map was a hell of a fine job. It may or may not of been his first map, but I do not agree with how MartinW approached his post of a critique/comment. For starters, a proper critique not only adresses the problems, but also gives advice on how to correct them. And in the basis of it being a simple comment, where has common decency gone? You may not like the map, but at least respect it and encourage the author.

My rant is done. =P

Rebuttal time to comments made. Now you all must realize that I am not the mapper. Being a Mac person I can't run UED as Epic hasn't finished the port. as yet - or whomever is doing the port.

Redfist. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! You don't like your maps judged by the screen shots so why oh wihy do you do that to others.

MartinW - Why do you say it is a first map? Do you know the mapper? Perhaps have a falling out with said mapper? Just a guess. What maps have you produced for 2K3 and 2K4 - if you have they are not here at Nali City - hmmmmm - I count 3 UT99 Maps.

The both of you and anyone else - you should always download it and play it and play it and play it some morebefore you comment. Why - read what The Village Idiot says. Adrsses the problem and give advice on how to correct them - properly if you can - at least a suggestion of how to fix any problm is better than no suggestion. Download it and play it with the map defaults - go through it that way about 6 times - then cut it back to you and a bot. (This will give you time to really look without worrying to much about getting Fragged. Make sure you turn on FPS on screen. BTW - MartinW - a map that loads and runs in the red deserves at least a 4 - this one runs green most of the time and a lot of high green as well.

I have download this and done the above - I have sent any issues I have had to the mapper with possible solutions - for example - the water underground doesn't work right - the properties could be set wrong and the alpa channel isn't working the way it should. To bright throughout the interior - try turning the lighting down. That sort of thing. I am not going to list all comments made - you go find some problems as you see them and make suggestions to at least a possible solution.

I give this map a 7 at this time because - it runs fast - FPS is up there - esp for the Mac - looks great and the bot pathing is very well done. They are good in this map. If you are constantly Pwning the Bots then you have them set way to low for your level of expertise. I play a lot of maps, about 20 to 30 new ones a week and this map is one of the better ones that I have come across in a while. Heck some won't even load or if they do they won't get out of the Red.I would think that the mapper is fixing any and all problems and will have a release 2 out for it in the near future.

Again gentlemen and perhaps ladies - Lock and Load and play the devil out of a map before you comment and when you finally do comment - be constructive not destructive. After all you don't really want to discourage the next CliffyB do you!!

Thats all for now - i await a V2 of this map - meanwhile I will play it a lot and even set it up on a server for some friends to come and play.

Redfist - You are right - you didn't post a score. I was going to mention that fact but forgot in the heat of the moment so to speak, I am however, used to seeing you post a score even if it is a 1,

As for the comments on Mac vs PC computers, this is not the forum to discuss that.

Think Olde SKool for the up close and personnal in your face fighting style and that is what this map gives me IMHO. I couldn't agree more with you in regards to the water in the underground. It is not well done at all.

I do however disagree with you on the "Boxy" feeling because I don't feel that way. JMHO. A Pyramid is built basically in a square - not a rectangle or an Octagon or any other shape but in a square - this in inherent in the design. This is of course looking at it from above and in slices. Is there a specific shape that you could suggest that this map be done in other that what it has been done?

RE You hating the Mac - not the forum to do so.

I have been informed by the mapper that a Version 2 is immenent and should be here in the next day or 2. Watch for it.

This map is below average for a first try map. NOW people keep in mind- FIRST MAP and FIRST SUBMISSION are total different things!
For UT 2004 this I find toooooo boxy, all over. The underground have terrible choise of static mesh to make water.- use fluid surface or at least a texture with Waves.(sry, but you gotta try harder.)

it used to be good for typing, well, it got a little improvements, not major though!

Im agreeing with redfist though,

the skybox is a real 'box' and thats just ugly.
You should try to make it look as real as possible,
Your terrain doesnt go smoothly in the background,
you couldve solved that with some mountains and such,
also some distance fog might have helped.

I couldnt really find any lightsources, and that gave a fake feeling to the map imho.
try to keep lighting as real as possible,
create flames for lighting, or use lighting from the sun, add lamps in your map where light comes from.
how do you light your house when it gets dark?

also your archi is very basic, you could spice things up with trim, pillars that hold the ceiling, windows in the walls, windows in the ceiling, ledges, structures and other decoratives to add life and spice to your map.

i wont add a rating, but if id give this map one, it would be a grade below 4.

advice: find a nice map, that looks nice and has a nice layout.
try to rebuild it from memory, and create your own version of the map, you dont have to release it,
but this way you might learn faster to add detail in your map, and spice things up :)

The outside area was fun and had a good look and feel to it. But connectivity is the big issue for this map if you tied the same rooms in from the 4 sides of the outside area and made those 4 buildings and use the teleporters to connect the buildings to each other or better yet don't use the TP's at all. Use hallways, anyway.

To me this map was all about getting to the outside area, no good skirmishes broke out indoors at all. The indoor area didn't look to hot either but that outside area was like a whole other map. :)
