There have been other longest yard remakes of this classic quake 3 map. This remake is done with such aplomb and class it makes even the quake original look sickly.
The use of reflective surfaces and lighting is extremely effective and noticeable even in the heat of play.
The custom animated textures for the jump pads and ramps add to the atmosphere of a tight game played fast, and bot support is hot with the damn things going for everything, often just before you have got to it.
The scale seems right but curiously the view of distant objects seems much smaller than in Quake3 and other remakes. Small changes to the shape of floors do not harm the flow, and many of the tricks you can pull in quake, such as a single jump off the top platform and land on one of the upper jump pads without damage, work perfectly.
Space maps are not for everyone, but if you are an accurate jumper, good strategist and don't mind being turned over by fast effective bots, this is a real winner.

This was my least liked level in Q3,it just cators to the low grav freaks.Man redo other ones agh
BUT !! I am glad you "redone" a level from a different game-engine,good deal.

Map is ok ish, funnny to play tho more an aim whore map than something serious

It's a shiny new remake... of what exactly? Theme wise, it's totally crap, and always has been. OMG FLOATING THING IN SPACE!!!1oone1! type thing. The author hasn't done anything to improve this other than add some new textures. Yes, visually there are next to no faults, but then again it's so simple and flat everywhere taht it wasn't really hard to go wrong.
Gameplay is laughable, always has and always will be :)

This is an incredibly skilled remake that has been around on another site for a while. It would probably play well with the Chaos UT2 mutator relics and railgun as relics and the railgun are the features that gave the original its punch; in my opinion.
Personally this map was never one of my Q3 favourites and, as has been said, I would like to see this mapper put their incredible skills to original content.

well, this map is made for those do love q3dm17, just like me.
If you are not a fan of q3 and this kind simple shooting, surely it's not for you:P
It is only a remake, nothing of the layout has been changed, cuz i think the original is classic enough
Actually this damned simple map should had been released even more than one year ago, the progress halted for one year cuz I had been busy with other mod maps and my true life.
Sure I do wanna to make original maps, and i did although they never be announced, and at first i have to release those i have announced first, one by one, while time is not enough for me:(

Space maps aren't for everyone and I guess the debate above shows it. There's even a lot of UT gamers who don't like DM-Morpheus' low grav gameplay so obviously these maps aren't for those gamers.
I for one love the low grav and space DM maps more than the corridor and rooms style DM maps and this was my fav DM map from Quake 3 so qudos to MoonFlyer for doing the job so well.
I'm only giving it a 9.5 because I feel the shock rifle is a better substitute for the rail gun (just my personal preference) and that I was hoping for the teleporters to be of the old Q3 design (again just my preference) but these a little things which doesn't distract from the fact that this is a faithful remake.
MoonFlyer, I hope you do 'Temple of Retribution' and 'The Proving Grounds' (i.e. Q3DM7 and Q3Tournery2) - as you could probably guess, I've played Q3Test 1.08 more than the retail version.

Excellent conversion, MF knows how to do his remakes by making them more then the originals. Suits UT2004 perfectly.
The only conversion of Q3DM17 I've truely liked.

Why make a re-make from a game that lacked in comparison to UT. This is the most overrated level ever. No rating because I'm not gonna be mean by skewing the scores. ;)

the original comment was kind of outdated so...
i've really come to like space maps so i thought a rating change was in order. even more so since this is a pretty neat remake of q3dm17 and it's fun to play.
still if it was an original layout it'd score higher.

Agreed, the best remake of Q3DM17 of those I saw for UT200x. The original map itself is crap, but this one is quite well done. Better then id did.

There is not anything really bad here, but I don't like it very much: it's grey, symetrical and the jumpads are not the kind of jumpads I like (they make too long jumps...).
