nice map i must say, but therre was some thing that really ennoyed me one is that the bots didnt defend some ojectives (mostly the second power thing were i could only stand and shoot and not getting killed) but there were mostly nice thing in this map i did not like the space though but no offence its me i just think space is lame but the parts on earth was really nice and the intro really loked great and it seems u spent alot of work at it the voice was nice also, so this is a good map just in t5he wrong environment for me :(

AS maps are - lets face it - few and far between so I'd have to say that Acatana is a must download right off the bat, but it is fortunatly a fantastic map in its own right. The Assault standard intro is informative and blessed with excellent narration (surely a rarity).

The initial space section is simple, fun and not unnecessarily long (UT2004 hasn't exactly nailed space-combat on the head, so any mothership length assaults would have been tedious), and space has been crafted well.

Completing the objective and suddenly spawning Planetside is a little weird, but nothing that the Mapper could help (thought it was worth mentioning anyway - it'd be neat if some kind of mid-assault planetfall cutscene could play; but that's probably unlikely if not impossible). Neverthless, the base is well crafted from available meshes (more-so indoors than out) and offers a challenging, if repeatative game for the attackers.

Negatively speaking, the level feels a bit too linear with no optional objectives and an almost dead straight run from the 2nd objective to the last. The areas are open, seemingly lending themselves to some kind of vehicle support, but it's no biggy. The objectives are also a bit samey, mostly involving standing on a fixed spot whilst a lever is pulled down or a bomb is set.

In conclusion, Acatana isn't overly special, but has just enough imagination to be probably the best Custom AS map i've seen so far. I'll stretch to a seven because of the great presentation and self-contained space and planet themed sections.

Lets face it ...this map is UNFINISHED,reason?MSCU!!!

Clearly, there should be inside of battle cruisers created;so defenders could launch their fighters from the
ship;not from planet surface (wow they sure are fast...)!
Then, mangan }swe{ already talked about bots;also fps are damn low!

Nontheless;this is a MUST download...

Generally everything that needs to be said has been said. But I must add a comment on the narration in the cinematic play-in. I spent some years working with voice actors/voice-over artists in a production and engineering capacity and, in my opinion, the narration is not well delivered.

That is a small point, however, and does not affect gameplay...

The best custom AS map I've played. Top visuals and gameplay. Though there were some flaws in AI and honestly I found the announcers voice annoying. But don't make that stop you from d/l this map.

This map is a fair amount of fun, but I thought it got a bit repetitive after a while, maybe it was to long, or took me to long to complete, I don't know. Regardless, this is probably one of the only AS maps to feature flying space ships other than AS-Mothership.

I to, however, found the announcer to be a bit annoying. You would do well to find yourself a voice actor.

Very close to professional quality overall.

The space sequence was done quite nicely. The visuals in the skybox are top notch and work well to bring out the atmosphere of being in space near a planet, with a space battle taking place. The NEG base on the planet surface was also done well and it actually looks like a real base. Overall, construction of the map is solid.

The gameplay is solid overall, but there is still room for improvement. There is a fair balance between attackers and defenders on this map (attacker's chances of successfully completing the objective versus the defender's chances of holding their ground.). First, in the first objective, it would make sense for defenders to start in the space cruisers rather than the planet surface. Also, the planet surface layout lends itself to oversniping (especially the second objective). Making the defenders go a bit out of their way for sniper rounds when their sniper rifles run out of ammo would help make the gameplay more interesting.

The bots performed well on this map. I played this map a number of times and the bots never had trouble doing their job.

Overall, I would definitely recommend downloading the map. This map should be fun online as well.
