| redfist 09-10-2004 01:57 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | I'll go it a 5,can be spammy, probably 4 players max, then it would have better strategy for DM,The textures on your maps, you should add "detail" to the textures, they would look much better,in opengl, using coompressed texture.the other map is better for playing than this one.
I do believe he made these for quake,he redid his OWN maps,If you read the readme I'm allmost sure thats what it said.,These maps are not on The Q1 CD.

| Speaker 09-10-2004 03:34 AM MDT | | Hi,
Thanks for the comments.
Redfist: You are right, the textures are not very interesting to say the least. I should have added some decoration as I did in the map Aerowalk. (BTW, that map also uses the original Quake textures mostly.) Aerowalk is a remake from scratch, while Elkdm2 is a conversion. Conversion was done automatically with the Q2U utility, and the resulting map is a mess that is very hard to edit efficiently (too many brushes, with odd shapes).
Hidra: It is for UT, not for 2K4. Anyway why not a remake? Some of the old Quake maps are much better (as far as map layout and play are concerned) than any of the crap submitted to this website nowadays.
Shao: What is a good map in your opinion? I think that the merit of a map depends mostly (say 80%) on its playability. Eye candy is good to have, but not essential. If I want to do sightseeing, I go out for a walk instead of opening an UT map.

so basically all you did was convert it, and redid some brushes..

I havent seen one or even 2 maps that had superior gameplay copared to the high quality maps, but yes, even your and redfist his maps have better gameplay than dm-box :) so thats at least a good thing.

bs, yes, playability is very important, but with your 80% rating you are way off. Im guessing and im almost sure that for more than 50% of the mappers it does matter if a map looks good or not, and if it looks bad they wont keep it on their hdd.
maps that look good and play good have a bigger chance to stay one somebodies hdd compared to low or non detail maps.
i wont rate this map, since you just ported it and did a few things on it. (which would normally mean a 0.5)
