| | File Name | ctf-belowtokaradeluxe.zip | Author | ArcadiaVincennes | Gametype | UT2k4 Capture The Flag | Date Added | 09-08-2004 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 8.51 mb | Player Count | 10 - 15 | Map Description | Set in the former drainage system for the Tokara Forest Arena. Later refurbished to provide a practice arena for the Tokara Forest competitors. After the Forest Arena became mostly destroyed from the constant tournaments, the forest and practice arenas were left derelict. Now, disused and slightly run-down, the practice arena was recently re-acquired by Liandri and opened as a tournament arena. Comments: This was the original concept map that spawned DM-BelowTokara. Icut my UEd teeth on this one and am pretty satisfied with how it turned out. However, I am not releasing this to beta. I'm calling it final now. I've spent months working on it and it is no masterpiece. It ended up being bigger than I imagined so I also added a CTF version because it seems better suited for that. It also contains the DM-BelowTokara rooms because this is what those came from. I'm releasing it now because it's in a state that's good enough to be released, it's not really good enough to make a big deal out of, and becasue it's time I let go of this and start something new. I worked on this for so long it would be a shame not to release it. it is a little graphics heavy but I did optimize. But it could be better. I hope you enjoy it. Any feedback is, as always, very welcome. P.S. I did fix some of the collision issues people were having within the sections from DM-BelowTokara | Review Rating | -- | User Rating | 6 | Overall Rating | -- |

| Gul Dukat 09-08-2004 09:46 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | What a pity. This could have been a really big one. But some flaws prevent a much higher rating. The PROS and CONS in detail:
PROS: - The look (it deserves a full 10), full of eye-candy - there are lots of areas to explore - I felt like teleported into Oddworlds Abe-universe (I love it) - Bots know their way around
CONS: - very confusing layout, I really got lost in some areas - red base hard to conquer - water looks strange, swimming on it feels like floating in the air - in many places you are forced to jump, cause you get stuck when walking - some jump-pads near red base sometimes lead straight into death
SUMMARY: This map proves, that a brilliant look isnĀ“t enough to guarantee good gaming experience. In this case gameplay is quite hard to handle. As I said: What a pity!
| ArcadiaVincennes 09-15-2004 12:51 PM MDT | | Thank you Gul-Dukat for the honest review. I can see all the pros and cons you detail, except for 1. I take exception to the last con. The jumpads in the red base all have valid landing points that do not kill you. There is no jumppad that leads direct to certain death. Perhaps the issue is fighting in mid-air while using a jumppad thus causing you to miss the destination, therefore leading to a long fall, which can kill you (but not always - dependant on health). If this is the case, I entirely understand your point.
Again, thank you for the comments. I appreciate someone taking a thoughful, critical view of the map.
