| mangan }swe{ 09-06-2004 08:58 AM MDT | Rating: 1 | | THIS MAP IS NOT GOOD AT ALL totally in bsp and few brushes bad lighting: one sl actor outside and some places was to dark to see anything a good practice for a first map but should never left the harddrive (i always give one for starting up)
| whisper 09-06-2004 10:43 AM MDT | Rating: 1.5 | | Well the map works and it plays ok to bad. The middle node is too much of a choke point and is impossible to hold in my opinion. You deserve at least some points for getting an onslaught map to work with all the basic features, however.
You should really learn how to use terrain, and that should be the top of the weird bsp cliff things, and cliff meshes mixed with more detailed bsp should be the sides. You should also crank the texture size of the ground down because it doesn't look that great to begin with.
The tunnels are not how tunnels are made. They are all bsp. Look at some similar maps made by Epic and copy their strategies. The map ctf-magma does something similar to what you are trying to accomplish, take a look at it.
For the insides you really need to learn how to use more static meshes to cover up the boxiness of the map. Compare yours to Epic quality maps, try to make yours look as good as theirs. It really helps to look at their maps to see how they did it.
Anyway, back to the gameplay I guess. It is very weird to have an enemy node in front of you that is locked, but one far away that you have to go to. Switch the linking of the two nodes on the large bsp cliff things. That way, not only does it flow better, but is easier for a team to get a foothold when they do manage to capture the middle node.
Also, one last werid thing. The nodes should never be at an incline. The effects look bad because they are straight up and down, whereas the node is at incline. Make a simple subtracted enclave for them (or better yet, use terrain).
Anyway, I hope you learned something from my comments. Good luck on your future endeavors.

| sandorski 12-19-2004 06:31 PM MST | Rating: 1 | | It's all been said. Mapper needs to Learn more and especially needs to consider adding Realism into His/Her Maps.
| SoH_Ghost3021 12-19-2004 11:03 PM MST | Rating: 8.5 | | wow, es0terica, you got hit pretty hard here. dont let the pestimists put you down, they obviously have no clue how wierd the new terrain is to work with :) this is a good map, it just has a few SMALL problems. i'm not going to give this a 10 to "balance it out" as so many others like to do for better or worse, im going to rate it truely. no ONS map deserves a 1 or a 0, setting up the 1st link setup in itself is always a big pain any way. you arent recieveing constructive critisism here(at this site).the bsp terrain is just a little hard to drive on, thats all.
| War Chicken 12-14-2005 02:10 AM MST | Rating: 5.5 | | This Map has Potential!
The looks of it are quite plain, but I dont think that eyecandy as as important as much others here think. The main factor I rate a map in is fun.
So the question is: Is this map fun to play? It's not yet. But it could be with some minor changes...
The concept of this map using BSP-Terrain in an ONS map is quite unique and thats good. The only real Problem I had when playing this map is, that you can see and shoot from one node to another on the top of the 2 forts, and thats a real pain. You cannot set up the node 'cos enemys are spawning on the next one shooting it to crap, before you've even started to built it up.
With this fixed and the paths corrected for better bot support you'd have gotten 8 from me.
And If you'll then get some more eyecandy in the map and make the Sky look good, you'll have a perfect map with a uniqe concept, which is worth 10 points.
Don't get breaked down by my and the others scores, if you continue working on this one and/or other maps with such a new concept, you're a great contribution to the mapping comunity.
