First impressions are what they are, it's another average looking industrial map. Some think the theme was ripped from Rankin, as the author said that was his inspiration, but I didn't quite get that impression; I just thought it was ripped from all industrial maps from the past. Mesh pipes line the walls, supports give the comforting lift to the brea...err ceiling, and plenty of square panels that look like rusty fuse boxes. The lower floor is ground terrain, with some boxes and chunks half burried. Similar industrial brick buildings surround the map, giving a late Industrial Revolution feel to it.

Lighting needed work. There are plenty of light sources throughout, and the author should have utilized them better. Light actors float down the center of the halls giving a more even glow which is better for visibility, but I think darker gaps between the light sources themselves would give better effect. All in all, it's not ugly, just could look better.

BUILD: 2
The smaller, shorter lifts have good speed to them, allowing for good lift jumps to the top level when aimed correctly. The larger ones don't seem to be used as much, and are a touch slower than I'd prefer, but not by much. Cursed_Soul included exploding barrels which are lying around the map. They're good for getting an easier kill when someone is next to them, but they're a one time use. Most are blown at the beginning of the match, then forgotten about, and aren't needed at all. Quiet clinking of old motors and hissing pipes can mostly be heard if one desires to stop and listen.

CAST: 2.5
Gameplay really hits the spot in DM-Drathi. With some decent z-axis opportunities about, and wide open areas for great maneuvering in flak fights, or zapping someones head off with the lightning gun. There is one corner that doesn't get much use, just past the biorifle and next to one of the large lifts, as there's nothing to grab. While on the opposite side there's 3 health generators, ammo, and the shock rifle. If it were me, I think I'd swap around the RL, biorifle, and minigun; putting the minigun up top, biorifle down below, and moving the RL to the empty corner. Health is a plenty too, removing at least 2 generators and spreading the others out would also give more incentive to roam about.

As it is however, the gameplay is still furious. The maps openness doesn't give you much place to hide for a break or left alone. Nothing really hinders the flow, except angry bots that persistantly shoot at you. Bots don't have problems grabbing any of the items, and there's only one small snag in their navigation of the map. Down below by the wooden ramp planks the bots become an easy target as they try to double jump onto the corner of a box, and again up to the hall above. A couple good rockets quickly end their attempts.

SCORE: 6.5
If you're looking for a good deathmatch map to play, DM-Drathi is worth the download. I'd recommend around 6 players for good use of the map. Any less could be too strewn out, and any more could leave you desperate for weapons. Just my kind of map!

solid map.

some funky use of z-axis. most of the gameplay happens in the middle room though, so it can get a wee bit spammy.
The visuals have been implemented quite well, but there are some parts i can't help but think more effort could have gone into.

overall, great effort for your first map for UT200X! keep it up, man =)

So far I have found the gameplay to be overall smooth. The design/style is cool with excellent lighting and blend of colours and a high standard of finish to all of it and this is just your first map as well!:) Ace.

I get that "Home Turf" feeling when playing this map. I just like it.

Technically would probably be more a 6, but I thought I'd be generous. ;-)

Lighting does need work as AM pointed out. Contrast is the idea; vary brightness, radius and color between lightsources and areas.

Rankin theme rip off all the way dude.The difference is rankin owns.Come with some originality and i'll come with a higher score :).Lighting needs help too in some areas.Keep up the good work!

Very good map. Nice amount of Z axis. Very good ammount of detail. Theme very good, its almost impossible to create a completly new theme for every map you make i dont really understand the other people saying its rankin rip its like saying any map that has snow on it is an articstronghold rip. anyways only improvment i see would be to lower light radius or somthin so the shadows are alittle more define. good job and remember you cut throat reviewers out there this map was free

good map , i apreciated the theme , but like herby say .. i don't think putting explosive barels in a dm map is very a good idea ...

and this map don't commes whit the rankin theme ... the theme is original and he did a really hard work on the light ... if you give this map a 1 its becau you only think about .. bla bla bla rankin-like = 1 .. you are really anoying . plz just be more positive

Fun map the only thing it has in common with rankin
is the textures.

Lots of room to move around, z action.

I like the exploding barrels.

This map exceeds MANY custom maps outthere, because of it's fine gameplay and superb detail. With detail I don't always mean small detail: the architecture is good and the kind of industrial/urban-like things in the environment support the theme.

Since this map was made from scratch and the layout was originally designed, it's definately NOT a Rankin-like map. I even think this map is MORE FUN than Rankin. :)

But ORIGINALITY is also a big factor, so my rating won't be a 10.

CursedSoul, your map deserves a fine 8. Of course, this all is my opinion.

BTW: nice detail, those dutch newspapers on the floor. Because I am also dutch, I can read them. :)

hey there!
now let's see - first, one can see quite clearly you were influenced by rankin but you did a good job hiding that behind custom stuff in this map.
the floorplan was relly cool and provides some nice z-axis action on the whole.
the lighting could use a little work though. i like te contrast of warm and cold lighting in here, but in general your lights are all somewhat too bright imo :)
but anyway - nice map dude!
