| goner 07-17-2004 08:01 AM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | I like this map and the movers work really well :) but i think that if you played it online it would be to hard because when your on the Broom you will be dead easy. Also i dont like it that the spawn points are right by the brooms coz i die right after getting the flag. But extremely fun map :) and looks a bit like a quidich pitch but without the towers
[EDIT] This would make a good fragball map :)
| quillion 07-17-2004 08:12 PM MDT | Rating: 1 | | themed on the harry potter movie, the im glad the movie wasn't as bad:P the gameplay is none-0-zip-nada get the picture?
[EDIT] i rather rate a map on gameplay anytime, yes i agree its a good idea but not done in a good way. simple as this ride the 'broom' your dead, sitting target you see??
[Another Edit] To hellscrag, its based on the movie since its a copy of the pitch from the MOVIE and as far as i remember the BOOK had no pictures in it:P ;)
| Tarantul 07-16-2004 11:35 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | ok, perhaps this map is not the best one ever made, but it's interesting and fun. the gameplay is really non-linear here, besides, the movers DO work well and that's saying something. I like the map, really.
| Vertigo 07-16-2004 02:08 PM MDT | | this should go DB 0_o
| Jebidiah 07-16-2004 03:43 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | There may be a big difference in the ratings, but I believe that this map is good stuff! Not a visual masterpiece, but the Harry Potter-esque field does all that it needs to. But this map isn't about graphics, it is about some totally new, wacky gameplay. You must cross the arena by riding a broomstick, and must dodge flying balls that attempt to knock you off. It is tricky, no doubt, but once you get into the feel of it, it's a blast. Most amazing to me, from a mapping standpoint, is that the bots use the brooms flawlessly. I have tried to make them ride horizontal movers in my maps, and they were always lamentably suicidal. Here, however, those suckers stole my flag with no trouble at all. Big points to the author here: He's going out on a limb to make something totally unique, and it really works.
| GTD-Carthage 07-16-2004 07:48 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | This is a rather strange map. It looks plain and simple.
The movers look great though. They swing and swurve around.
| Frisket 07-17-2004 02:31 AM MDT | Rating: 3 | | I like this map, but those stupid "blajers" just don't give up. I ended up calling those demonspawn "Demon Globes." I like the concept, it's just not fun to play the map when some globe from hell keeps on ruining your sprees.
| AlexanderVasyliev 07-18-2004 04:04 AM MDT | | To Jebidiah: Yeah, those bots just DREAM of jumping off. I made an actor - Lift Trigger to fix the bot on the broom. When the bot steps on the mover, every 0,005 second the trigger checks the bot's state. If the bot's health is above 0, and the lift is moving, the location of the bot is set just above the mover. So the bot can't jump off, even if he desires to. When the broom hits the final target, the bot can finally jump off it.
To Frisket: Those "Globes from Hell" can be easily shot off - just shoot them several times and they'll leave you alone and choose another target. But be careful though: if you hit the 'peaceful' blajer, it starts hunting you:)
To Hellscrag: Don't you think, that I just read the russian translation of 'Harry Potter' books?
| Totemx 07-17-2004 07:40 AM MDT | Rating: 6.5 | | Very, very good idea not well realized. I'll wait for a next version.
| Hellscrag2002 07-18-2004 06:23 AM MDT | | You'd have thought that someone who was fan enough of the series to make a map themed on it would know how to spell "Quidditch" properly.
I would take quillion to task for assuming that the map was based on the movie and not the hugely successful BOOK series, but having said that, the gross mis-spelling of the map's namesake would seem to indicate that the mapper has either (a) seen only the movies or (b) spent his entire life listening to audiobooks! :B
EDIT: To quillion: But it doesn't even look like the pitch in the movie. The stands are totally wrong! :P
EDIT2: AlexanderVasyliev: That's fair enough, but if you're releasing a map to an international community that's predominantly English-speaking, it would be wise to use the accepted international spelling (which is easy to find), rather than taking a guess and transliterating the Russian, which is presumably written in the Cyrillic alphabet. I'm not judging your map anyway - hence no rating - I'm just having a snark. :)
| Ironblayde 07-17-2004 07:33 PM MDT | | The author did a fine job on the technical side of this map, getting it all to work, but I found the gameplay to be very dull.
| RJGexplode 07-18-2004 04:03 PM MDT | Rating: 8.5 | | great map!!! would be nice if it was a little bigger, but still, awesome work!
