Since there is no screenshot, allow me to describe: Rat Race (which is actually a DM map) is a bunch of square tunnels containting square decorations, made 100% from that BSP we love so much. The author would definitely benefit from using some static meshes, aligning things to the grid, etc. The skybox is not a skybox, just an oddly shaped subtraction, lighting is mediocre... I won't go on, but I would suggest that the author look into all these things. The entire thing seems to large, which I think could be the easiest improvement: If the whole thing was smaller and the player count lessened, I think there could be some much nicer, tight gameplay. To be fair, the map is based on one from Halo, so the scaling is not as natural for UT. One plus, the bots are actually pathed! It is a first map, though, and this ISN'T one of those junky "DM-XL-SubtractedCubeOfEvilDoomAndDeath-SE-III" maps that are made in two minutes. It's just a starting point, so keep trying!
| Innominate 07-15-2004 03:24 PM MDT | Rating: 3.5 | | Halo is a good game but it's so slow compare to UT, kind of like Unreal2 but with the vehicles. Anyways this is a pretty good map for a first timer.
Pros: -The map doesn't look "that" bad, it's pretty nice considering it's 100% BSP, I like the shield thingy that really reminds me of Halo. -Good use of textures except for the random cave thingy. -Layout is pretty good. -This map has potential.
Cons: -Most of the lights have no sources, especially in the cave or whatever that place is suppose to be. -You actually did pathed the level but you forgot to do the "Build All," remember this for next time. -No preview pics of any kind, not even for NC or in your .zip folder. -No sounds/music. Ambient sounds brings a level to life and music gives it a nice kick. -The level doesn't really need optimization since there aren't many triangles to render but it wouldn't hurt to do it anyways. -No static meshes were use besides the weapons and ammo and why are they double their original size? -No skybox except for this weird oval thingy. -Alignment errors.
Good try man keep it up, GL on your next map. Here's a site that will help you a lot. http://www.planetunreal.com/architectonic/first_level.html

Because it works. Mine didn't. You die as soon as you spawn in my first map because of an incorrect ZoneInfo placement.
