| Jebidiah 07-15-2004 02:16 PM MDT | Rating: 5.5 | | Alright, before I get into this, let me just mention that I'm being a really nitpicky weener here, just so the author can make improvements. First off, the general lava/bridge theme of the map works pretty well, and I especially liked that some areas fade off into mysterious darkness, such as the excellent central bridge area. Now, in terms of looks, the things that I think could use improvement are the lack of trim on most walls/tunnels, the absence of dramatic shadows and lighting, and the sometimes curious mix of textures on the bases. Also, the walls of the base seemed awfull thin to be made of stone... Ok, layout time. It worked pretty well for me outside the bases, but I found the inside to be a little to linear for my liking. The small flagroom is rather anitclimatic, but these may have been part of the idea of the map. Bots did well, choosing good defense points and moving skillfully, and I heard appropriate ambient sounds. Pickups provided one last bone to pick, since there seemed to me to be an excess of shields and damage amps. Also, I would have opted not to include the instagib rifle. Finally, from a technical side, keep those brushes aligned to the grid! For potential downloaders, keep in mind that I'm just being picky here, and there is lots of fun to be had with this map. It was obviously made with the right intentions, to create something great. BTW, kudos to the author for being only 14, I'm 16 and I didn't know if there were many other teen mappers out there.
