AWE: 2.0
BUILD: 1.5
CAST: 0.5

ADRENALINE RATING: 2/5
RECOMMENDED NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 16+

SAPPER: Another map by the laughing squid. Some day I'll find out what's so funny. Anyway, oh boy does this thing bring back memories. I remember with I was a kid, I used to make models out of lego. I mage a really cool replica of a Romulan Warbird. I made models of the Federation Galaxy Class, Sovereign Class and Defient class ships. I even made a 4 foot model of Deep Space Nine. Needless to say I had ALOT of lego.
GNOME: I think this is one of those maps that falls under the category of requiring a different kind of review schema. I personally would have liked to score it a little bit higher. Maybe of there was some sort of X-FACTOR category that could cover everything that the AWE, BUILD, and CAST doesn't cover.

THE STORY
GNOME: A long time ago, people played with legos. People still play with legos. Legos are fun.
SAPPER: Great story there Gnome. Are you even trying anymore?
GNOME: I don't suppose you could come up with a story to with this one.
SAPPER: ...
GNOME: Yeah, I didn't think so.

THE AWE FACTOR
GNOME: Under the guidelines provided by the NC review schema, this map rates a 1.5 in this category. However, due to the nature of this particular map, I'm gonna give it a +0.5 for its uniqueness.
SAPPER: Lighting is poor and although it is there, it is also unsourced. My suggestion, put a whole bunch of those small, clear red and white things on some of the, what do you call them?
GNOME: Nobs? Prongs? Sticky-out things?
SAPPER: Put a whole bunch of those small, clear red and white things that you can find in the newer lego sets on the sticky-out things and call them light sources.

THE BUILD
GNOME: I'm not really sure what the author was trying to build. It look more like a bunch of legos scattered everywhere. I would have though that maybe you could build a base are something. That's what legos are for. Building things. A CTF version of this would be great but you'd have to move the pieces around.
SAPPER: It would have helped if there were some of the thinner pieces acting as ramps to get up to higher places. As it stood, we had to play this using the Jump Match mutator in order to get a decent gameplay. The last thing here is that although the file came with an appropriate and quite funny music track, I think you forgot to link the map to it because we didn't get any music when we played it.

THE CAST
GNOME: Okay, here's with things get confusing. There is no bot-pathing in this map at all. Zero. Theoretically, the bots sure have just stood around looking up at the big legos. But that didn't happen. We used the Jump Match mutator plus either Instagib or some other Arena mutator, cranked the difficulty up to Godlike and adjusted our bots accuracy almost to the max. Although we ended up kicking the bots' butts by like 30 frags, they were actually quite adept at jumping and camping and sniping and being aggressive in close quarters. Not really sure how that happened.
SAPPER: The online play was outrageous though. Sniper heaven. Gnome I'm sure loved this map.
GNOME: I did.
SAPPER: I prefer the rocket launcher however. In a CTF version of this with the legos moved around and 8+ players to a team, I think a rocket launcher arena would be great.

OVERALL
GNOME: I would classify this map alongside DM-MosEisleySpaceport and DM-UnrealCasino as having an unreal amount of potential both for improvement and for conversions to CTF. Low review score but high praise...I hope you can live with that. I eagerly await to see what's next.
SAPPER: More, more, more.

Not bad and not brilliant,im stuck in the middle with this one.Definately loses marks for no screenshot.I help run 2 sniper servers so this will be on rotation on them but only for a short while.Needed a few more lego blocks and buildings to turn it into a good map.

My bust...posted the map with out realizing that I did that.....I will fix that monday and resubmit it. Sorry guys! I'm truely hanging my head on that one!
EDIT----Fixed the screenshot and is posted as DM-LOL_LARGELEGOSv2. I do appretiate the reviews guys! Even if they aren't so great. It at least tells me what to work on!
Thanx
Squid75

[UPDATE 6/19/05)
Okay, so I think I waited long enough for any reviews on my maps......Me thinks you guys don't like the sniper maps, so I'll just post them somewhere else. I should have figured that "real mappers" just do run and gun maps. Bah!

My score of NaliCity = -1 for sitting on reviews for over a year, when I really could use help!

I agree. I like the custom lego textures and the big board, but It's plain and boring looking. I like sniper boards but this one rubs me the wrong way for some reason. The legos are beautiful but playing with bots is not recomended since they just stand around waiting to be sniped. I am still trying to figure out just how a map with just legos in it can be over 9MB compressed.

Easy, a lot of brushes left not intersected, a lot of 512x512 textures in MyLevel and that's it.

nice job Squid!....I think theres the right amount of lighting on this one....and I dont think the legos are too sparse as someone commented above.
This is a good sniping map, for long shots and close combat. More legos = less long range sniping.
Thats just MY opinion.
I find that most comments on this site are from run'n'gunners, therefore some peeps cant appreciate a good, dark map.
See ya out there,

Since when has green Lego been so widely available?

I mean, in my experience of building Lego when I was younger, it was all red, yellow, blue, black, grey and white.

Just saying. ;)

Map still shouldn't be that big. 1) you shouldn't intersect brushes in the first place and 2) textures should be compressed, preferably DXT1

TO BOT40-
are you blind or what??
how the hell he can compress his textures to DXT1 ?
It is not a UT 2004 map!! LOL! its a UT 1999 map where there is no DXT compression!
oh boy! looks like he never played it (or even looked at UT version!

I like this map. The only thing I would change would be to spread out a few more weapons. Other than that, I will keep it in my rotation.

Nothing against the map or whatever, but ut2004 (or ut) ,seems like people are gravitating to this type of level.
Just completely ruining the game, big allways big,and ut2004 big allways big big big.
Friend runs a server, big maps, even that AHK gang all big maps is what everybody votes on.

Oh like kegger party, the list goes on and on,then people put in the translocator wich also adds to all this noob gamer stuff.but if that makes em happy,oh well.
And what gets me are these maps are easy to make, look trrible, play terrible,if I made levels like this i could only forsee zeros being posted.
Even killbilly barn wich is kinda ok,but it's just mindless sniper or spam fest or hiding way off in some wall wich is masked by a nonsolid brush.

Although this is not the best map I've ever played...not by a long shot. I have to admit I rather enjoyed it. Still not sure have my bots were able to get around with absolutely no botpathing. Still not sure how this map turned into a 9MB download. But in all honesty, despite the fact the for this thing to be any good on a botmatch you have to adjust your bots accuracy to damn near max, I liked this map.

This level gets a 1 from me. The lego theme is kind of neat, but the weapon placement, map flow, bot pathing and default lighting is HORRIBLE. You know there is something wrong with a map when you need the impact hammer to get a sniper rifle. :/

Acid_Spudnik : Yes I can see it took work to get the legos the right size, but the author spent no time on the lighting, bot pathing, map flow, or weapons placement.

never been a fan of the me-so-tiny maps...but Id be willing to bet that my friend caution is goin to comment on it v.v and no doubt over-rate it...even so..I give it a score based on screens so...yea...

To Caution: Caution..do you realize how much work had to be done to get em the right size?....being that Im a map maker in training..I would assume a lot..its more than just sticking a bunch of square brushes together......isnt it?..
rating remains the same

I don't mind Clan-type maps as long as they're an online-only vehicle.

It can be a good idea to upload something like this, but Lego maps are old hat now.
