| OLDMAN(CO30) 06-30-2004 03:21 PM MDT | Rating: 3 | | First {detail} did you look over "WATCH YOUR STEP" not good your letters are a mess.
Now the map, I got bored real quick, add some more halls or something PLEASE.
Your on to something, but not this map.
UPDATE True we doin't make maps we play them and thats where you come in, so you had a bad start with this one so what thats where we the non map makers come in to give you insite about problems we find and for you to correct. Heck ive seen maps get a new version after every comment just to get better everytime we point out a bug, and in the long run he/she becomes a better mapper, and thats good for all. So doin't take offence, we as a group what you to build us killer maps and if are wording gets a bit ruff at times, read the comments and move on to a better build.
| Manticore 06-29-2004 06:36 PM MDT | Rating: 1 | | When this map was first posted there was no screenshot. My immediate reaction was not to bother downloading it and I'm sure many other players won't download without that tempting screenie...
The map itself suffers from a lot of problems with construction. There are mis-aligned textures in a number of places and there also seems to be an extruded surface here and there which look like mistakes.
In my opinion, this is an example of how maps are made "on the fly" without proper planning. Maps with the best gameplay almost scream out that the mapper started with an intention and then sat down and planned the layout but this does not appear to be the case here.
The result is a lot of cyclical fragging and the odd dead end which is not going to hold an experienced players' interest. Weapons and items placement appears to be haphazard and not thought through. The default player load for the map is too heavy and botpathing could use some work as they can't make the jump pad transitions in a lot of cases...
It's nice to see a return to the spiked pit mantrap from the Quake's and there is nothing wrong with the odd face first plunge into a killzone but why ruin that and the effect of the invisible flooring "leap of faith" with the cheesy lettering that looks like it has been lifted off the cover of the Rush album 'Roll the Bones'?
Also you have mis-spelled "claustrophobic" in the map package...
....a decent attempt but more planning and better execution is required.
Additional comment to the author: I don't think you should really be so abusive. Everyone's entitled to an opinion.
Or are you just jealous because we can get hard-ons and you can't dweeb?
Furher additional comment to the wimp: Firstly, I wouldn't want to release anything I've done that isn't at least ten times as good as the crap you've been throwing up. Maybe you've begun to understand what pride means and you might be discovering yours right about now but I've had my pride a lot longer.
Secondly, I'm glad someone out there love's you because if I were your old man....
By the way, you started this with your lack of respect for other users of this site, who are all entitled to their opinions whether or not they like your shitty maps; I just finished you off.
Now go running home to mommy, boy....
| VerMoorD 06-29-2004 04:20 AM MDT | | Rochiller, Firstly i admire you for wanting to make maps for us to download but please, please check out some of the other maps out there and see what the acceptable standard is.
Get yourself over to the beyondUnreal or INA/atari forums and get the maps tested before releasing them to the general community.
If you keep releasing maps of this standard then i'm afraid even if you eventually make the most kick-ass map ever, people won't even download it when they see who made it.
I'm actually thinking this is a bit of a wind-up.
| souldividersjosz 06-30-2004 05:26 AM MDT | Rating: 0 | | Ouch, reminded me of my first mapping experience with UT99's editor... indeed you have to look up the standard by checking out loads of maps, heck the retail maps should give you the right idea how it should be done ;) I will not rate this map for NC doesn't support the rating I would give...
EDIT: Just because this map isn't up to mapping standards around here doesn't mean you have to give up, your friends who liked the map probably did because YOU made it and they're your friends. You can't say Manticore is posting bad comments, his opinion counts as much as your own and it happens to be that Manticore posts very accurate and realistic comments. It's sad that you can't handle constructive critisism and that you flame anyone who does have a critical look at your map. Now your map is even worth less than before, you gotta show some character, man...
| Rotchiller 06-29-2004 03:08 PM MDT | | You know what? These maps suite me, my 2 brothers, my friend, their 2 friends, and my grandad(he plays this game, believe it or not ;P) just fine. We've played some good 2v2 and 1v1 on them and nobody has any complaints on texture use... what is THAT?
NC will not see another one of my maps. Right now that may leave Manticore(who, I might add, has no maps submitted under his name) cheering, but I don't care what he thinks because I've never seen a good comment from him...
Have a nice day.
| Ironblayde 06-29-2004 10:45 PM MDT | Rating: 1 | | Manticore's comments are accurate. The map has a dull layout, very sloppy brushwork and mesh use, no trim or detail to be found, unsourced white lighting, and that awful default texture on the floating platform with the Big Keg.
Negative comments aren't meant to be personal attacks. They're meant to help you see what you're doing wrong and improve your future efforts. Learn to accept honest criticism or you'll never get any better; that holds for mapping, and for everything else. Immaturity will get you nowhere.
| Uncle_Bob 06-30-2004 11:48 AM MDT | | Just to reply to Rotchiller, I have seen good comments from Manticore, he gave my map a 5 which for a first map I think is pretty decent! When he does give a bad score he gives constructive critism which is what he gave you so dont bite his head off.
| Mercenary 07-23-2004 06:22 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | it could use some improvement, but i like it as a few people deathmatch game. One you need to improve is bot's getting stuck at those jumping platforms, and you must change the weapons placement places. The health thing in center of spikes doesnt seem to be appearing at all also.
but i would play this on net against 1-5 people.
