Sorta a spaceship/tech style deathmatch arena. I found that more players == more fun on this map. Bots play very well on it. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think.

DM-SikUT by Sikkpin
AWE: 2.5 BUILD: 3.0 CAST: 2.5
ADRENALINE RATING: 5/5 RECOMMENDED NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 6-10
SAPPER: I think I'm being lied to. There is no way in Hell that this is Sikkpin's first map. GNOME: That's what he said, that's what it is. SAPPER: Well if it really is his first map...well, good job. GNOME: Savor this moment Sikkpin! Sapper had found it in his heart to grant you a compliment.
THE STORY GNOME: Sometime during the Energy Era when humanity began their expansion toward the stars, it was decided that a new spacestation was required to replace the existing NEG Space Station that had been built several decades earlier and was now being plagued with structural issues. After the new station was completed, Liandri offered to buy the old NEGSS for a tournament arena coversion. SAPPER: Not your most creative story Gnome but I gues it fits the premise.
THE AWE FACTOR GNOME: I am simultaneously liking and hating this map. The lighting is superior. Absolutely a wonderful job with it, however in alot of areas it is too dark. That's pretty much the only minus however. The texture use is great and the texuring itself is extremely well-planned and well-organized. Because of the clever use of brushes, the texturing turned out spectactular with minimal, if any, misalignments. SAPPER: Theme is more or less consistent with the stupid story that Gnome just told. I still can't believe that this is a first try map...
THE BUILD GNOME: What can I say? Perfect. If brushwork could be rated like bot difficulties, this would be 'Godlike'. We've got fully functional lifts, jump pads and kickers, DM-Deimos'/CTF-Face]['s wonderful skybox, and whenever a mesh just won't do the trick, Sikkpin built it himself. Between the perfectly aligned and custom build stairs to the fine details required of the central platform, I'm just stunned. SAPPER: The only thing I have to complain about is the ledge at the lift of the big lift where you get the sniper rifle. Should be a little bit bigger. The rest of the map is pretty good. A little cramped in some places but it's pretty easy to get over it once you're playing it.
THE CAST GNOME: I'll be perfectly honest here, I didn't really like playing this map. It wasn't so much the flow of the map as the layout of it. SAPPER: I liked it. It took me a little while to get used to it, but once I knew where everything was, I rocked. GNOME: Yeah, and I had my pixelated butt whooped. Those bots are nuts. They're like women at a shoe sale. SAPPER: The placement of some items needs to be improved on however. For example, the location of the rocket launcher and the located of the shock rifle should be switched. And considering the size and shape of the map, two Flaks would have fit quite nicely.
OVERALL GNOME: Excellent work Sikkpin. If all your maps are as well thought out as this one, you'll become a legend in no time. SAPPER: Note to map artists, when releasing a map designed to cater to 8 or more players, it is advisable to select a weapon you think best fits the map and place 2 of them. This will help to define you map a little clearer and will also help to cater to certain tastes. Remember, not everyone likes to use all that weapons. Some people are Flak Monkeys like ArcadiaVincennes, some people like Gnome here prefer the sniper rifle, some people like me will jump on a rocket launcher, and some people like the other weapons. GNOME: Wow. I would like to tank you Sapper for actually contributing today. SAPPER: I'm actually in a good mood. What can I say? GNOME: Well, that wraps it up for this review. See y'all soon.

| XepptizZ 07-25-2004 04:40 PM MDT | | This map kinda sounds familiar, did ya fix some bugs or something?
| Sikkpin 07-25-2004 08:11 PM MDT | | I was hoping that this would have been listed as a new map instead of ontop of the older one but oh well. Its pretty much the same just took away alot of curves and such to bring down the polycount. Its still high in places and i cant figure out for the life of me why. After all that i changed and took away (which was alot) it only dropped it about 200 polys. I also tried zoning this but i dont think it helped, though im not sure if zoning would help with this kind of layout. Anyways, if you already have the older one i recommend getting this one as its complete (in my eyes) and i dont think ill touch it again. So enjoy, and be on the look out of a CTF ill be releasing in the near future.
*Is it possible to update that screenshot? That one is very old.
| Taydawg 07-25-2004 08:48 PM MDT | Rating: 6.5 | | Enjoyable, i think the curves were nice. you cant poke your eye out on them
| Gaweph 07-26-2004 04:10 AM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | I think this map ia amazing, it has a lot of touches. The textures look great. The lighting in just right in my eyes. You really have the feel of being on a spaceship, floating through space.
I did like the main room, with the redemer, the roof in there looks really good. This map also has a lot of little touches, diagonal pillars, and supports are present, the architecture is very nice. All in a ll a great map.
| Gnome and Sapper 09-06-2005 06:31 PM MDT | Rating: 5.5 | | These are the kinds of maps that we should see uploaded on a regular basis. But instead, we have to deal with the total crap that we've been getting through the summer of 2005.
At any rate, HOLY SHIT! Your brush and texture work are unparalleled to anything I have ever seen. Although I personally didn't really like the layout, absolute awesome job!
| West 09-06-2005 10:01 PM MDT | | I'm not a huge fan of DM so I don't really know how to rate this map (and thus I won't). Normally I don't even download and comment on DM maps but the excited talk about this one got me curious :)
And what can I say... wow. Architecture, texturing and lighting is absolutely gorgeous. In fact, the map's so tastefully and skillfully constructed that even though I knew it was UT, and even though I recognized all the textures, it actually felt like some entirely different game. Which is very refreshing considering most UT mappers nowadays keep rehashing the same old looks and ideas, and progress is measured in number of polys.
Gameplay-wise the map isn't as striking though. The flow isn't very good; I could never make sense of the layout and it felt like you get snagged on stuff all the time. Tiny lifts, irregular-shaped doorways etc. But like I said I don't like DM so I don't think I can be the judge of that.
Anyway, this is a technically and visually very impressive map from a very promising mapper. Too bad Sikkpin hasn't released any more stuff though (?), that CTF map he mentioned sure sounds interesting...
| Derdak2rot 09-07-2005 08:13 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | humm , its not bad but not great either . remember to use bright corners for textures when you have brushes not lighted properly . and use better the textures , those floors SGtechs ones are horribles . more trims and better constructions in the rooms ( some looks empty ) could be better for the look of the map . also , be careful of those textures misalignements . but keep it up , im sure your next will be better .
| redfist 09-09-2005 12:25 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Overall it seems like he did a map to learn and try different features of unrealed or UT,some kickass stuff in there. I didn't totaly get the big geometry rush, but it's a very cool map. At first I thought it was to convoluted and cranky picky for fighting, but it's not too big,has lots of good spots,I found the shield belt.
However the FPS started gettin on me,I don't think he cared too much, but he did a lot of stuff in there,it would be a great uedit learning map, pretty slick
Gameplay could be better, but I guess you would have to learn the map more on this one,but still good, like mabye 4 plays.
All in all, please download this if you want to learn ut mapping and mabye a round or 2. (MEL) ?
The lifts are kinda unbenounced and youl mabye bump your head, the opening on top isn't big enough.
Worth a download for sure, and great map for learning some good tecnique.

| II-DarkElf-II 09-30-2005 06:37 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Not bad at all!! The Bots could have been pathed a little better though... kept getting stuck on the ramps.
| cooloola 10-23-2005 09:49 AM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | I got this map over 6 months ago. At first I thought "no, not another 4 way symmetry map" and i was gladly wrong. The layout is quite simple but also complex enough to keep you coming back for more. the visuals are quite good with a couple of new tricks although i spotted quite some misaligned textures. Anyway download this map and you'll see what i mean
