AWE: 2 A [curious] note to start this review (always difficult to start one; then its tuna pizza) is the fact that 1on1-Movar is actually 1on1-Mavor ;p. What we have here is the ever existing industrial-something so carateristhic of UT mappage, all the more if you add Richrig to that description. The lighting differs in blues, yellows, and reds so on that department at least there's something to keep the map easily identifiable as far as paths/levels go. This is all the more accentuated due to the "dark"-ish look of the map.
Now the 'big' part: architecture. Base architecture isn't out of the norm but it's decent. It's not convincing for the 1on1 though because (IMHO) it's too open at points, as well as being simple in overall layout. Of course this changes if you're into arena-type of maps or other simple layouts. You actually can "divise" the map into 3 main open areas interconnected in a "relatively" identical manner, making it somewhat boring at times, and since the map is relatively small, you get to repeat most of the same steps a little too much. BTW, when i say small i mean 4 players in it will hit my 51 frag-limit in less than 8 minutes of [classic] play. This also means that when you spawn you'll most likely have someone already singing victory over your dead body. Strict 1on1 here, people.
The other aspect of architecture in 1on1-M.v.r (- :p), and most annoying is the decorative part. It consists of ceiling railings supported on the walls and as you might've guessed, and no matter if they look good and composite and fit the surroundings, they *will* snagg you when you least need. This occurs on places where the author placed those railings on low ceilings, like the under-passages, or on some walls up paths. It's not that it happens too much to blow (in that pervert sense i know you're thinking :p) gameplay up, but still happened often, especially when running backwards. There's also some good deco detail here and there, like the water path with grates off the ground.
BUILD: 2.5 The map is zoned of course, and brush work stands on the decorative architecture mainly. Those support railings are great to look at (pitty they "hit" the PC). Music is UT standard, and there's ambient sounds typical of industrial location, though a little low on volume...
CAST: 1.5 The gameplay got me at times. Besides the architecture snagging problems, FPS overall were low, killing sometimes instead of the combat. Even on an open map like this i wasn't expecting 600+ polys at scenes, hogging my system on 4 player match, but even burping on 1on1 play, hitting playability. Gameplay also suffered with the simple-2-level-layout. It just felt limited. Item placement was about right for the most of it but seeing some double ammo packs for the same weapon near each other seemed overreacting for a 1on1. The Bio Rifle is on a open but tricky place to get if you're in middle of combat (and you will be on that spot), and i liked the Armour corner (even with some railing getting on way :/ ).
Overall, i can't say this is a great map -some shortcomings are too protuberant not to be taken into account- but still, it *is* a decent map worth a spin to taste it :). |

| EvilSwanky 09-16-2004 02:27 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | ok map, though there are slowdown moments
| milb 05-31-2004 11:26 AM MDT | | Yeah, looks so! P.S. Play the map in hardcore! Coz I've tastet it with hardcor, always! So you can jump across those 64WE heights!
| Uncle_Bob 06-01-2004 07:53 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Nice map with good architecture and flow -worth a download!
| Sicko Teddy 06-01-2004 11:37 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Looks very classyc. But nothing wrong with that. instead, it is good enough to be included in a mappack. The architecture is solid. It is a nice map for our old friend - UT ! :) You could of added some EXTRAHAZARDS. (I always love those things, when you can kill your enemy in alternative ways!(Like in DM-Pressure)
| Manticore 06-02-2004 01:59 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Map appears to be a good UT99 build. In my opinion the 1/1 gameplay is average.
| Revelation 09-11-2004 07:28 PM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | I would have rated this one a bit higher in a review, ok, perfo is truely "not the best", but architecture is extrmely cool, and the gameplay is also nice imo. A typical 1on1-layout, but set in place very good!
| Koveras 09-16-2004 12:33 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | tight map, good flow and visuals
| Vertigo 09-18-2004 11:22 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | good map dude. most pillars are to low and you get stuck in the middle of firefights. Great visuals and ok gameplay though
| stil 09-30-2004 06:18 AM MDT | Rating: 6.5 | | Id like to give Nahand a reviewer score of 10 for using the word protuberant in a review.
| koeckchen 10-04-2004 11:00 AM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | I already gave you a comment ;-)
| Jez 10-09-2004 04:38 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Nice map. More of the same please, but make them bigger with a smaller poly count.
| Kyouryuu 10-29-2004 01:51 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | I really like this one. The architecture is neat and the lighting is also great. However, I agree that it's a bit too small, and getting hung up on the support beams is quite annoying. The designer should have considered putting some invisible collision around the beams to make the player slide around them rather than come to a dead stop.
| Luzz 10-29-2004 11:43 AM MDT | Rating: 9.5 | | I think that this map it's one of the best map ever!
This is for real 1on1!!!
| Derdak2rot 10-30-2004 07:28 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Exactly the kind of map i like . a bit small but perfectly realised . archi is great and lot of good details . Just the lighning need more work . but a very good one-on-one . probably the best !
