Map DescriptionUnder the cover of darkness, attackers must raid the Fortress of Twilight to steal the jewels stored within two chambers. Defenders must protect their jewels using the great walls they are provided with, attackers must break against their walls like waves against rock.

Assault objectives:
- Destroy the gate (of the fortress)
- Raise the inner gate
- Destroy the gate lock (x2)
- Steal the castle jewels (x2)

The short review: A poor map not worth the time it takes to download.

Extended review:

awe. You are playing in a fortress consisting of a bunch of poorly textured and aligned ugly block brushes surrounded by the same rock mesh used dozens of times. It's very ugly. the handful of trees and other meshes look slapped on and really don't help make things look any more impressive. I've seen VehicleRace maps that looked better than this (and virtually no effort goes into looks on those)- It sounds like you're trying to steal jewels from a medieval castle, but there are industrial crates, park benches and a tank in the map. The entire "fortress" uses a couple textures so its really hard to say what it is supposed to be. (score: zero)

Build: as alluded to above, the map is ugly in part because everything is the same- most of the structure uses the same texture and that texture has been misaligned and misrotated in every way possible. The map has virtually no bot support- after the first objective, they will be no help to you at all. Considering you probably wont ever see another real person in the map with you, this is not good. PLEASE, assault really really needs careful attention to bot pathing. The mapper should pay special attention to this on his next project and it will almost certainly be much better. The mapper seems to have limited knowldge of assault actors. Instead of using the actors provided for the multiple spawn point system, the mapper has a number of crates with teleporters inside. when you cmplete the first objective, a teleporter where the attackers spawn opens up. as you advance up the "fortress", another teleporter opens up right near where the first one comes out. A number of UT assault maps did something like this, but even in UT you could have multiple spawn points. Some credit has to be given here, as it is more difficult to make a functional assault map (much less a good one), but this map needs a lot of work to get out of the abyss. Keep experimenting, and show us the result. :) The map also has no music set. Score: 0.5

Cast: Because of the above, it is hard to imagine someone having fun in this map. the lack of utilization of the features of the new Assault doesn't help. To say something good, the final objective is VERY hard to get anywhere near. If you like a good challenge, you might be able to get a few jollies out of it, once. Something missing from most custom assault maps ive seen, there are no optional objectives, and no alternate routes. The attackers get a tank, but it is only useful for the first objective because you can't drive it into the fortress. However this map is simply poor and requires a lot of work in all areas. Score: 0.5

Definatly needs better bot support. Once you make it through the first gate, the attacking bots just stop alltogether. If you're playing with ANY bots at all this puts you at a disadvantage if you're attacking. This just seems a tad ridiculous. Also, maby you could put the sniper rifle farther away from the spawn point so someone isn't able to resume sniping immediatly after you've killed them and they respawn.

Edit: Yeah, I suppose the map looks like a 4ish (trees look out of place and some of the faces are a little boring) I'll average the 3 and the 4 and make it a 3.5 I guess that rounds to 4

This map needs more spit and polish. From the Map itself to the Gameplay. It's nice to see people making AS maps though, keep trying.

Author's an asshat and this map sucks. I previously had a post using CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM and I'm pretty sure I know a thing or two about mapping especially for AS, and the jerk wad thinks this map is done, and what's even more hilarious, he thinks it's a ten...

Pretty much agree with all of the above comments. It also didn't run overly well for some reason, but I don't think it has to do with the map.

This maps problem is it's lack of gameplay that stands to the terrific balance of the AS maps that came with the game.

SLT^Frase, let me just say that you need to work on most aspects of the map.

Most of the static meshes look misplaced, and the rock "walls" look artificial. Perhaps you could make them not quite as repetitive and also add some angles to them - such as making them not entirely vertical. I think it is also a bit large.

Also, bot pathing could use a lot more work. Try to avoid using too many different texture and staticmesh packages as well, and you could use some more ambient sounds. You'll want a door actor in your doors and gates so bots can navigate the entire map. I think your fire ambientsounds' radii are a bit large, too. I can hear them from almost across the map.

I also agree with most of the above comments.

becouse manticore knows the mapper at least put a little work in this map.

i'll admit i like jerkin peoples chains.. Sure this map does have a quite a lot of bad points into the map.. nearly everything is wrong with it, but i'm going to at least give credit to the author giving him a good try and hope he knows now what he did wrong and will fix it when he makes his next map. To me a good reviewer will always give at least a say that at least he attempted even if its a failure.

Not too bad as an author's first map.

Definitely needs better texturing and more static meshes.
I will build a remake of this map for fun =)

I think is one of the best AS maps out there. the only thing really bad about it is that the bots are so dumb on it that they can't do the second OBj because they can't jump over a small wall. I give it a 9

Who by all hells in this stupid universe has given this map a 9 as a score?!!

There must be two reasons:
1st: you never ever haven't seen an assault map before!
2nd: probably you have to be blind to overlook this.

Seems like "mapmaster" have some odd personal tastes. Especialy after giving that ons map from the creator of "ONS-Ascendary" a 1 and CTF-Wall a 7. Wow...

Don't hire this guy for a decent review.
