DOM-KingoftheHill
Map Info

File Namedom-kingofthehill.zip
AuthorUncle_Bob
GametypeUT Domination
Date Added06-30-2004
File Version5.00
File Size2.51 mb
Player Count2-6
Map DescriptionThis is my first proper map for UT. This is a king of the Hill style map(hence the name) set in what is meant to be an abandoned police out post that has been refitted by Liandri. Its probably best to have a low score limit when playing this map as there is only one DOM point. The control point is named position because of some strange glitch in the editor where it disapeared before I could rename it. It still shows up in gameplay though.

I would like some constructive critisism about the map as Iam really trying hard to improve my editing skills, honestly. I hope you enjoy the map, it works now.

Can't find file for package 'Liandri.'

Edit: I just downloaded the map again, after you said you updated it, but there's still not a .utx file in the archive, just the map, the music, and the readme.

Edit: Downloaded the map a third time, and it has the texture pack now, but the map still won't open. This is ridiculous. My patience is at an end.

Edit: Uncle Bob - open your console in UnrealEd and type the command TEXTURE CULL. This should do two things. First, it'll show you a list of all the textures currently being used in your map, so you can be sure that the references to the Liandri pack really are gone; and second, it'll cull any texture references that no longer correspond to any visible surfaces, which may remove the dependency on the Liandri pack.

Thanks for your comments Manticore, I see what you mean about the building and gravity and the walls being thin. I did get a bit carried away with all the signs and stuff. i did it mainly to break up the boring walls and add a bit of colour. Im glad you thought it was all right and that the bots were generaly good. When there are something like 2-4 bots they sometimes use the upper level with the rocket launcher and somtimes your'e team follows you up. Thanks for your 5 rating I'm chuffed with that!

Thanks Nalicitymaphunter for your'e comments, glad you liked it! This Liandri package thing seems to haunt me even though you shouldn't need it as I removed the textures from it. Oh well.

Edit: yeah I read about texture cull on Unreal Wiki form the link from your post on the forum. Ill give it a go, and then it means another update!

Edit: I did the texture cull and found the marauding textures and I have changed them. Liandri is culled from the map. I just uploaded the update so it should be here in a few days.

Edit: This is the fully working version with the Liandri package totaly liquadated!

It works this time Bob. I don't know if you are aware of DOM-BlueStarMountain but it is another single CP DOM map (of a completely different scale) that may be an interesting reference point for you re: gameplay.

Good points: The map runs well. I had maximum bots with the quad team mutator in it and it ran fine. In fact it was as fun spamfest. The area around the CP began to look like someone had nuked a butcher's coolroom. It appears you have considered attention to detail as there is a blocking volume (or whatever it's called) around the rooftop barbed wire to prevent camping exploits. Bots seem to be happy generally...

Not so good points: The walls are a bit thin in places. Nothing ruins the look of a map more than architecture that wouldn't "appear" to bear loads in earth-normal gravity, real-world situations. The upper level where the rocket launcher lives is barely used.

Other personal opinions: All the deco's (signage etc.) follow a consistent theme which is good. You have put a lot of them into a tiny map space and my opinion is that now is a good time to learn not to over deco as if you ever get to working in UT2K4 mappage you may end up with a horrible playing, over-meshed lag monster.

A '5' means average, by the way. O.K.? Giving this map a '10' is spam in my opinion and does neither this website nor your map justice because it is unrealistic (Tournament)(pun).

I have completely no idea from where I can get the texture package... ("Liandri")

I can't rate by just the screenshot.

I just downloaded this map and ran into the same problem Ironblayde did last month: No texture file was included with the map. However, I was able to find a useable Liandri.utx file zipped with the map AS-Throne by SteelHORN.

If that texture file had been included with Uncle_Bob's map, I would have rated it higher. The map is well-designed and looks pretty good. However, with just one domination point and played in a practice session against very aggressive bots, the action is insane! The name DOM-KingoftheHill certainly sums up the way it plays!!!

This is a generaly good map- With a lot of bots the action can get a little much. If I had to pick out a fault it is a bit small in general and big in the outside area, and does get a little monotonous. A few more rooms and cunningly hidden spots and it would have got higher.
