Shivering already? Then CTF-Coldfront's setting is working. I was waiting for a BR ball to come flying over the hills as it looks like the same planet as BR-Ice Fields. The piles of snow on the roof slants appear ready to fall any moment, which may droop a bit too much, but not too unbelievably so. I particularly thought the metal grating for the upper level fencing and ramps was uniquely interesting. It wasn't greatly spectacular, just different from other maps. Nothing looks out of place, but nothing draws much of your attention either.

I know overcast winter days can be dull in lighting, but things could've been spruced up. The electric lights could've done more for varying color, especially inside the buildings. The openness of everything does present a small problem, as snow reflects well into the shallow indoors. Basically I think it suffers from the choice of accurately doing a usual overcast winter day. It's not horrible by any means, and doesn't detract from gameplay.

BUILD: 2
The map has a decent looking setting, but lacked some ambience. Sure there's that breeze that howls quietly, and freezes your boogers where they hang; but the buildings all seemed frozen as well. Everyone seems to put quiet ambient sounds that you can't hear in battle, but that's not ambience! Anyways, jump pads performed well, giving you a chance to change elevation mid-way through your run. As for the sky, it's as mentioned before, overcast. Lots of custom meshes included in the myLevel pack with this map, all of which look very nice, and make up most of the maps visuals. Take out the meshes, and the BSP skeleton left wouldn't be enough to support itself.

CAST: 2.5
I had only a few small drops in frames with this map on my computer, so most of you shouldn't have problems running it. Gameplay has more of a classic CTF touch to it. Very little adrenaline lying around for players to grab and use to throw the balance of things. No wasted space in the layout, and bots use it fully. Though it may seem a bit linear, as you just zig-zag down the path to the enemy base, but it does lend you the ability to quickly enter a building at the corners to stay unpredictable.

Weapons may seem sparse at first, but once you know their locations you'll be ready to go. Each weapon is only found twice in the map, so there's no real domination of any. Bots varied with every weapon, as human players will to their preferences; and none are more difficult to grab than the others. As mentioned earlier, not much for adrenaline pickups, which personally I think is good. Health generators aren't overabundant, nor to sparse. Frankly, I think the item placement is as spot on as can be here.

SCORE: 6.5
Well above average map, only a few issues elude it from being the cream of the crop. Not a regretable download, in fact, you should regret not downloading it by now.

There were missing textures in the UT2K3 version because of the lack of fallback materials. That hasn't happened here....

Good CTF....

Hmm played it and quite enjoyed it actually. New static meshes look original, not the most amazing ever, but they certainly stop it from looking like generic tech map 10000 with retail meshes thrown in without thought.
Map theme reminded me of DM-Ares (a very old map by chicoverde) though the layout couldn't be more different.
Layout was decent, room for z-axis and was quite fun to play. Perhaps the weapons were spaced out a bit too much (may be that I haven't learnt the positioning yet?) and the layout felt too linear and repetative. The map could have been 1/2 of the length and lost none of the originality in the process. The layout could really have benifited from some open areas, or paths crossing over each other more etc. (coret style)
Lighting was a major poor point imo, lacks a lot of contrast in colour and brightness. There is different colour around, but the overall brighness is so even, it doesn't really notice.
There was also other minor things I briefly noticed such as the snow on top of the buildings overhanged waaaay too much but I didn't really look for other small things like that too much.

hmm, would give a 6.5 if I could, 7 seems a bit generous and 6 seems a bit harsh, but other people already gave it 8s and stuff like the lighting really dragged the theme down imo so I give it a 6 :)

This is done very well and I have lotsa fun here. The only thing I didn't like was the theme. By the theme I don't mean anything is bad, as far as I can tell, the lighting is good, texturing is good, bots are good, I just can't immerse myself in the theme. Maybe if it had a little wind blowing snow around or something or maybe there is and my video is just too low...

I typed up this review in class I was so bored, (hooray for mySQL). Did quite well on remembering the stuff when I got home and double checked.

Read and download.
