Additional comment to [morpheus] below: OK. I get where you're coming from and I stand corrected. I didn't get the UT/Unreal1 connection (it's been quite a while and I never got the version this mapper did for UT; so this is a port of a port). I knew there was something familiar about the whole deal.
Funny, I was playing this going "I'm sure I know this map, where have I played this map before?"
Sorry Mr. Cliff B.............
Morpheus if it is "just you" I don't see that as a problem. Everyone is entitled to their opinion....
Additional comment to wildwomen below: After [morpheus] clued me in to the origins of this map I decided to change my rating from what it was originally: a ten. I wouldn't give anything a ten that wasn't original and this map isn't. It doesn't matter a f**k if the geometry and subsequently built BSP's were ported or if they were redrawn as the map is based on someone else's work and is, therefore, a conversion.
I went back and found this mapper's version for UT99 and played it. Then I opened it and the original Cliffy B Unreal version in Ued and checked them and these "conversions" are as near as dammit copies to the original.
It's idiots like you with their inane comments (as opposed to people like [morpheus] who have an opinion and make a valid comment) that keep screwing map ratings on this site because their "friends" happen to be on the receiving end of the comments and ratings.
If you had cared to read other peoples' comments properly you might have a half a clue as to why certain maps get given certain ratings by certain people.
Do yourself and the human race a favour; grow a brain........ and, by the way, GET BENT.
Additonal comment to deathmorgue below: "Damn guys stop fighting over a map that the author is basicly trying to keep alive."
Awwwwwwwwwww......... who cares? I'd worry more about your spelling.
| [morpheus] 05-14-2004 09:41 AM MDT | Rating: 2 | | Ok, let's keep it simple, shall we... The whole thing looks like one big copy-paste job over a direct bsp port. Meaning: who knows what. The lighting is disgusting(some areas are 100% dark), so is the "water"(totally blue, ugly waves and no translucency-but that's just me, right?). There are some relatively good spots in the map though(like the surprising presence of ambient sounds and screenshot), but mean little to all the other flaws(the installation itself is the most annoying thing that happened to me this week). And then we have the originality factor... Brilliant, right. Better luck next time.
| ZombieĀ§ 07-07-2004 07:32 AM MDT | | Morpheus...I have never ever heard of a BSP PORT!!! I have no idea what your talking about there. THIS map was made from scratch! Yes, I do agree with you on the water. Like I said in the text that goes along with the map..."TO ME, I MADE THIS MAP WHY TO FAST." But as for it being to dark?????? Cliffy B. made Elsinore as a dark map...thats why I like it so much. It's dark in the right places and light enough to fight in---in the right places.
But as far as a "COPY AND PASTE JOB"...it's far from that!!! I do this as a hobby...nothing more. I can take any map by studing it hard enough, I can rebuild it just like the Author did it brush for brush without copy and Paste jobing it.
But thanks for your rating anyhow.
4fifties
FYI:
1) The super shock rifle is added for "DOMINATION" reasons...doesn't take much of a brain to figure that out.
2) No windows because I wanted it that way.
3) Wooden beams...Because I wanted it that way.
4) If you can do better...than rebuild it your self!!!
5) ALL rooms are complete!!! The way I wanted it to be!!!
6) Lighting has a source...you need a new video card!!!
7) The grass your talking about was fixed before it hit the online servers.
| wildwomen 05-16-2004 07:51 PM MDT | Rating: 10 | | Once again Zombies you have made a good recreation of Cliffy B's DM-Elsinore.
But this time I have noticed that the hallways are taller, less brush work in the round room where the rain is coming in. HA HA
You could have done alittle better on the water thingy, But I understand why you had to get it up and built and out here in hurry too.
As I can read above these two can't tell a counterfiet BSP from their left hand. Because it sure did fool them lol.
It's to bad to hear that your dieing of cancer my friend. You'll be missed by me, thats for sure. When you start keymo, may God be with you!
I hope that you live long enough to finish out DM-Classic World's. That'll sure give these two guys something to talk about.
| hawkwind 05-18-2004 09:51 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Nice solid map that looks and plays well. Good use of improved emmiters and lighting. So its a little dark, light it up with your mini blasts! Thanks for updating this so it can be enjoyed 2003 style. As for the water, I've seen water that looks just like that around kaolin mines in Georgia
| deathmorgue 05-19-2004 04:45 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Damn guys stop fighting over a map that the author is basicly trying to keep alive.
DUH Maint. The author is a master recreator. And I must add did a damn good job of it. Morpheus needs a new video card...theres no "100%" dark any where in this map.
The author made this map as close as possible to Cliffy B's make. I see nothing wrong with that.
Too many 18 year old kids out here running the hole under their noses to much.
Good job Zombies. I am one of the few out here that still enjoys Cliffy B's DM-Elsinore. And once again you bring it back alive for UT2003.
awwwwwwww...water to blue who cares, I'm a player and it plays fine as always.
Yes your remake of it this time has more head room.
Good comment hawkwind.
| 4fifties 06-13-2004 12:26 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | While not my favorite DM map from Unreal, I did enjoy seeing and playing this once again, 2003-style. I think the central z-axis room over the lava is very well done, as is *most* of the rest of the map, but there are a few notable shortcomings. The single biggest one is the inclusion of the Super-Shock Rifle, which totally clobbers any balance this map may have possessed. The collision with the shrubs and ferns in the lower round room with the circular stairs is another headache. The lighting in some areas is oddly "sourced". I didn't feel any areas were too dark; at least no darker than the original. The funky blue water is out of place, and gives the map a cartoonish feel. Finally, the room with the Minigun has a half-finished, blocky look to it, the wooden beams are all wrong, and I really miss the windows that were present there in the past. Except for the Super-Shock Rifle gaffe, the map plays pretty well despite these minor problems.
