ONS-DarkSideOfTheMoon | | Map Info |
| | File Name | ons-darksideofthemoon.zip | Author | Mephisto | Gametype | UT2k4 Onslaught | Date Added | 05-10-2004 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 2.83 mb | Player Count | 6-8 | Map Description | This was just a quick map i did about a month ago. It was a remake of a UT1 CTF map i did years ago, and it seemed fun to play ONS in it. I wasnt sure if i wanted to release it, but I decided to release it anyway in case someone likes it.
Please dont be too hard on it, it was not built for eyecandy. | Review Rating | -- | User Rating | 3.5 | Overall Rating | -- |

| DBlue135 05-10-2004 08:06 PM MDT | Rating: 3 | | It's origional, sort of, but that's all the good comments I can think of. The bases need to look a lot nicer and you should probably have the way to the core marked somehow (maby with glowing power conduits or something) The walls need to be something other than flat and grey. Outside, things don't get much better. It doesn't look like much thought was put into the layout of the nodes or the hills. It's basically a flat ring with a ring of mountains and then a smaller flat area in the middle. Stragagy wise, two of the nodes seem completely pointless which leaves 1 node between the two cores. When I downloaded this map, I thought it would be something cool like the in "2001 A Space Oddisy." You know, the moon base/excavation site where they found the monolith? Lastly, if you're on the moon, why can you see the moon in the skybox?
| sandorski 05-11-2004 03:16 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | This map was quite fun. Sure, it could use more eyecandy, but it's still a good map.
| Manticore 05-13-2004 03:45 AM MDT | Rating: 5 | | Lunar demolition derby.... The vehicles are great fun in the low grav situation.
Yes; the bases could use some work but the idea of putting the powercore deep inside the base is, as far as I know, a new angle that no-one else has exploited so far.
I don't think that the terrain is all that bad. The peaks and troughs are good for bush-bashing in the Hellbender. The textures and their colour are good but.....
I'm getting an error in the terrain which turns some of the rocks white. It's like a million BSP holes.
Additional comment: I see now someone else (below) has mentioned this BSP type thing in the terrain. I still like the low grav vehcile stuff....
| [WoD]Mephisto 05-12-2004 07:12 PM MDT | | Thanks for the comments. Sure, it doesnt look very nice, and it almost would never have seen nalicity's database, but i decided to upload it anyway after about a month or so, because of its originality. Also, dont expect to get an updated version, this is the final one (except if some serious bugs/exploits are found).
Manticore: i'd like to see those screenshots, to see if its something i can reproduce. i havent seen any weirdness in the terrain while editing nor testing, but if its anything in the map i'll fix it. you can mail them to mephisto[at]mephisto.ma.cx of you want.
| Jack Phrost 05-12-2004 09:00 PM MDT | Rating: 1 | | Plain bsp rooms. Big problem with the terrain. At certain camera angles the terrain disappears. I think its a problem with the terrain's textures... I don't know. Low gravity with vehicles just doesn't work. I think traction is desirable. I think this map needs a lot more work and time, but the moonscape color seems kinda cool, it just doesnt work.
| 420Papageorgio 06-02-2004 02:26 AM MDT | Rating: 3 | | This map has to be one of the worst maps I have ever seen, but what can you expect from a newbie mapper?!?!......I know your talent will grow as you create more maps. Just don't release them until they atleast have a moderate gameplay and look to them. P.S. know a good map when you see one.
| hunter 06-02-2004 02:31 AM MDT | Rating: 2 | | oh man.
no need to write up a big review on this one.
looks 1 gameplay 2 = 2
| GroundZero 06-08-2004 07:21 PM MDT | Rating: 3 | | A lot of long range node sniping kills the map for me. Hard to pick up opponents but the low grav gives you something to work with. Too plain and suffers from lack of meshes and detail.
| Innominate 06-10-2004 04:44 PM MDT | Rating: 4 | | At first the low gravity was pretty cool and fun to play with but then after about 5 - 10 minutes of driving vehicles and walking in it, it began to be annoying and boring. The gameplay is average but with the lack of detail and Music, which I think ALL maps should at least have, it began to get boring.
| [FnG]Torgo 07-25-2005 05:04 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Maybe I was lucky and had my first experience on it with a fun group of people, but this map was a lot of fun to play. Lowgrav ONS ... who'd a thunk it would be fun? But it is. Kudos for conceiving it, Mephisto, and thanks for putting it out there. Originality rox, dood!
Having said that, it's not pretty, and maybe someone in the mapper community could take the idea and run with it. (...?)

Many have noticed a graphic bug, but none could tell you what it is. It looks like its the decoration layer on your terrain that does not work like it should.
You wrote you did this map rather fast, and for a fast built map this one is quite good. Onslaught in LoGrav is fun, and you have to think if you jump over that hill, cos your flight might take a long time. The only things that are not good in this map is the plainness (but hell - the moon IS rather plain, isn't it?) and the link-setup. The link setup really sucks - why have those two links on the outside if you can attack the core after capturing the middle one? I'd change that.
Yeah the bots act rather stoopid, but I think you cant change that, 'cos they behave like drive in normal gravity, so I'd recommend playing this one in multiplayer only.
| Revenga 12-14-2005 01:25 PM MST | Rating: 0.5 | | Why do you all comment higher than a 1? I just can't understand you people, giving this kind of ratings to maps that don't deserve it.
Anyway, can anyone of you please tell me what is possibly wrong with eyecandy? All the maps I built got rated below 4 (there are expections, but they are rare) and I really concentrated on making the map look good. Now this map has no eyecandy and no feel to it, and for the fact it's made in a short amount of time, doesn't mean the map is good or something. Also, one map I made, DM-Magmarena, is rated a 1.5 on Nali City and I really put some effort in the eyecandy there. I guess eyecandy means nothing to you people. Fact: it was rated a 7 on Insite (if you don't know it: the most known unreal map rating site and a good one, they don't rate below 3.5).
Right, I give it a 0.5 for the effort.
