Short review: A very small Onlsaught map with unique visuals but mediocre gameplay.
Longer review: This map is set in, well, some mysterious blue place with lots of purpleish crystals jutting out all over the place. The meshwork is fairly detailed, and my machine struggled with it a bit, but it was nothing major. If I had to give this map an award, it would be "Most Unique Visuals." I don't think ive seen a map quite like this before. The high awe score reflects this.
As mentioned, performance was a bit slow but well within playable parameters. Perhaps a bit more optimization is needed. Other than that, technical problems were trival. There were places to get stuck, but that is more attributable to the layout of the map than its construction. Bots platyed fine.
This map looks great, but does it play great? The answer is, not really. This map is very small, mostly flat (where the player is able to go that is) and the paths between the nodes are extremely narrow, too narrow for more than one vehicle to fit without causing an un-jammable car pileup. These narrow passages are the single biggest problem in an otherwise fun and original map.
Give it a go, you might like it. However, you might also get frustrated with vehicle pileups and such caused by the paths between the nodes. Worth looking at (for the eye candy), worth playing a few times. A pretty good map that could easily be improved with some minor changes such as widening the pathways at by like 25% at least. |

| [WoD]Mephisto 04-14-2004 05:30 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | i was pleasantly surprised by this map. when i saw the screenshots i was like "wtf?", and i knew i had to play this. the best parts of this map are its originality and the looks department. there's transparent meshes everywhere, which makes the map look really nice and shiny. the textures all fit very nicely and the layout is not very original, but not bad either. the map just leads you from node to node with a sort of corridors, like ONS-Severance and ONS-Primeval. The bots play well (apart from a few small glitches) and it's fun too. I don't think i've seen its default link setup in another map yet. The weapon and vehicle placement is good as well. The framerate is a bit lower than usual, especially for a map this size, but i can see the author really put some effort in trying to make it run well, with a lot of well-placed antiportals and the use of distance fog.
overall a very good map, certainly one i'll keep in my /maps folder :)
| sandorski 04-14-2004 09:29 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Very nice and very original. However, I suspect that those with older systems will have serious performace issues.
| Sicko Teddy 04-14-2004 10:58 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Oh! look, the surrealist is back with another unusual and artistic map! After the DM-Timeless, where the battle takes place in frozen time of atomic explosion, this is another refreshing thing, where the eyecandy - first. In the beginning, I thought that this is a world under the ocean, but it's not. It's something like a crystal environment. There are details that can't be noticed right away. Looks great, plays ~ so so, (but not that bad as AS-RobotFactory which takes me 5 minutes to load, and chew frames on normal setting . I'm forced to put everything on LOW :( .)
| ADES2 04-15-2004 07:34 AM MDT | | :) Sorry but i had no time last yaer (Timeless :) ) and i have no time now , to make more and good maps. So i can only make fast a little map if i have few days free.
And thx for good comments. @ [WoD]Mephisto nice comments , very profisionel and 100% correct.
Sorry for my bed english , never learn it.
Edit: @ Teh F1shb0t not for this map. for other 1 Day maps and for long time with out Maps.
| Teh F1shb0t 04-15-2004 07:19 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | /me likes. Why say sorry for such a nice looking map? :D
| OLDMAN(CO30) 04-15-2004 01:37 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | I like this map because it's different to look at first of all, I doin't know about the rest of you but getting a map that looks just like any other exceipt a few weapons is boring to say the least. It played well on my PC. Keep up the good work.
| Mad Irish Mapper 04-16-2004 07:17 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | I was amazed at how well it ran on my relatively poor PC, and also amazed that it was a fairly high quality map to boot to match its highly unusual visuals.
Only a few niggles, there isn't a map description and also the tank floats above its spawn point (looks wierd).
Certainly worth a download.
| Ogge 05-02-2004 08:55 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | COOOL MAP
| Manticore 05-02-2004 11:04 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | This map appears a bit small for some of the vehicles and the mantas have some trouble with all the large crystals.
My opinion: I think the terrain looks a bit artificial and overdone but the idea is good.
| hampel 05-02-2004 05:11 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | I like it. Nice visuals!
| mangan }swe{ 05-03-2004 10:41 AM MDT | Rating: 3 | | i didnt like any part of this map the framerate made it unplayable (for me) and the chrystal thing wasnt even nice and some of them where or looked like brushes
| Amisa 05-04-2004 08:42 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | I give it a 10 for the visuals. The gameplay is average but it works. A very beautiful and original map to have !
| Peadar 05-04-2004 03:26 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | its a nice map to look at, but gameplay is a bit plain i think. I like to set my settings to as good an amount of graphics as i can get without my pc chugging but this map pushes it just a little on my old chumbucket pc
| nightshadow 05-10-2004 06:42 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I loved the theme of it, but it could have used some variance besides being in valleys the whole time. Crossing hills would have been cool.
| Latent_Image 05-10-2004 10:27 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I thought this map was pretty good, visuals are fantastic and I would also suggest some optimisation in some places.
Keep up the good work, looking foward to a new "Timeless" map :)

That map really rocks. It is neither too huge nor too close. Game play is optimal, because the ways between the nodes aren't too long. Bots play well and more or less intelligent. A bit more Z-Axis and improvements in weapon placement would be awesome. The visual stuff...wow...original theme, awesome looking...one of my favourite maps in UT!!
