Nice map! Build and textureing look great, (the sand worm looks really good ;> ) the broken down vehicles were a nice touch. No noticeble texture misaligns and such, bot pathing seemed to work pretty well, (one got stuck by the flag for a sec till it double jumped up finally) Is a little on the small side for CTF (personally I like smaller maps tho) And could use not quite so much blocking on the rocks for sniper points. All in all, quite nicely done!

Sandworm? Is it like a sarlacc pit (from Star Wars Ep 6 and several Jedi Knight maps)? If so, is it the center piece of the level? Hopefully not.

I take it "Edge" has never seen the movie "Dune" , they are also called the "Spice" worm.

Very nice map. I remember this map from UT2k3 and it was great there as well. Nice bloody mess near the worm! :D

THE GOOD:
Atmosphere. Despite the criminal lack of Fremen, Arrakis does a nice job of creating an atmospheric playing environment. Half-derelict vehicles - including one whose paintjob has been comprehensively sandblasted - blowing dust clouds and subtle torchlight take the desert theme into a direction thankfully removed from the typical Egyptian cliches such maps tend to inspire.
The Shai-Hulud. Surely any level that features a half-rotted sandworm carcass as its centerpiece can't be all that bad?
Gameplay. About what you'd expect from a well-rounded CTF effort; multiple avenues of approach and escape, plenty of space to manuever, and some deeply vicious botplay - the way computer opponents gang up on the flag carrier really just has to be seen. Good stuff.
THE BAD:
Quibbles, Quibbles. About the worst the map dredges up in this reviewer's eyes are a few minor lighting issues. The light levels in the underground passages don't quite seem to match the level of illumination available - use of coronas would help here - while the torchlight comes across as just as bit too bright; a tad more tweaking would be advised.
THE VERDICT:
Classy CTF action from an experienced mapmaker. Definitely worth checking out.

Before I bought 2k4, this map and Unearthed were the two main maps I played in 2k3 (along with some of the stock ones). I was very happy to see it come to 2k4. I can honestly say I've spent hours in this map.
Excellent. The only downside I can tell is I've played it too much now. ;)

haven't played it yet, but when i do, i'll score it. but hey, it's based on Dune, how bad can it be? And for those of you that haven't read the origional Dune trilogy, shame on you. buy it---NOW. classic sci-fi book (the whole trilogy is now just one rather large book)
can someone refresh my memory? it was Atreides=blue Harkonnen=Red right? that's how it was in Dune 2 (old-as-dirt PC game made by Westwood Studios BEFORE they made Command&Conquer. *sigh* I'm still pissed at EA for buying Westwood, especially because the C&C series has gone downill since they bought 'em)

Another one that the .rox clan voted off the "inhouse" server. The general consensus was that we really didn't enjoy playing it.

I thought the rating was supposed to be what you thought of it, not something to compensate for what others thought of it?
Personally, I really enjoy this map. I never think of any Dune settings as being quite like this, but its still really cool, and kinda creepy at the same time. The giant sandworm in the center really adds a lot to the map, it reallty brings a sense of place to it. The gameplay is somewhere between really good and above average. If for some erason you have yet to see this map, it's worth checking out.
